  • my 06 530i same issue 40k miles bought it at 34k dont think i noticed it. 3 other cars i test drove all had the noise so i thought it was just how the car sounded.

  • I have an '06 325i that had the exact same noise. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the cylinder head which was causing the problem, not the lifter. It is a known issue.

  • i got a 06 325i and i have the same ticking sound but some days its there and other days its gone

  • uhh no no no!!

a BMW is a car that DON'T has to have those problems!!

  • I have the same problem, did you ever find out what it was? From research on forums, I am thinking its the lifters.

  • yeah mine does that, same car but im not sure if its the same issue mine is more of a fast ticking like its a diesel motor

  • So for those of you still keeping track of this issue, we are up to 25k miles (ticking started at 6k) and still ticking. Ha ha. Actually, they replaced a couple of the lifters about a year ago, it started ticking a week later, and it's pretty hit or miss now. Never as bad as prior to the lifter replacements.

  • low oil level? loose rocker arm? simple fix, pull the valve cover and tighten the rocker arms to spec

  • sound like something happend vanos/what dealer said?

  • our merc had the same problem, it was the black belt thingy which rotates all the round thingies at the front including engine fan.

  • dude i got a 06 330xi black. and got the same shit hapeneing

  • I bought a 525 in september 2006 with exactly the same problem.

  • I have the same problem with my car (not a BMW though). Did you solve your problem? If so what did it involve?

  • I bought a brand new X3 about three months ago and I'm having exactly the same engine noise. BMW told me to wait 1000 miles. Last week then they changed the oil, but the noise is there. Apparently, they're gonna change the head now to see if that solves the problem. Have you solved yours?

  • this generally happens from beating on it

  • check oil level

  • I know I'm a kid, but it sounds like its coming from one of the rear cylinders. My moms ml320 does the same this sometimes
