is NOT the same as:

"That's what I thought you should do right from the very beginning."

And

"Don't hold back, Axel, promise!"

does not equal

"I won't go easy on you, Axel!"

But despite those discrepancies, I love love LOVED the English scene. It was cute anyway. :)

@Wystearya Scenes are usually changed to fit the mouth flaps in translating and the timing of scenes. Especially true because the Japanese don't use our form of sentence structure.

But why do they have to change the /meaning/ of the lines and therefore the /character/ of the characters? Xion saying "Don't hold back, Axel, promise!" sounds weak and pleading, whereas "I won't go easy on you, Axel!" is challenging and strong. That is what she is. She fought and fought HARD for her right to be free.

@Wystearya That is definitely true. You'll notice between Japanese and English shows/games that characters will have different personalities in general. That's why most people (me included) enjoy the Japanese version due to the emotional and raw power of their story. You have to admit it is a really tough job for translators to retain both story and characters at all time when everything is already set up from the Japanese version.

That last line, as Overmaster1 stated, does kind of remind me of Naruto when he says he'll bring Sasuke back, even if he has to break his arms and legs to do it.

The translation from Japanese version to English version tend to get a bit mixed up, so yes, the Japanese version of the game is different than the English.

I love the beginning. Xion's all sweet and innocent then towards the end she's all like "I'm sorry Axel, but please don't get in my way! I know what I'm doing!"

Then Axel's all like "Xion...please don't do this! I don't wanna fight you!"

@alfred4king It's actually between one and two. The chain of memories game didn't last long in the story line. It actually only lasted like...a month? I'm not sure exactly how long Sora spent in C.O. But Axel wasn't gone that long. He comes back to Headquarters and has Ice Cream with Roxas like they used to.

I understand Heartstation wanted to keep this PG, but Axel is actually being pretty mean to Xion. The most accurate English equivalents to what he's saying here would be like "teme--" to "b*tch" and "zankennayo" to "f*ck you". Something that will be lost in the English versions, no doubt.

This game DOES show a lot about not only Roxas and Axel's friendship, but also their friendship with Xion. They are kinda like the Organization XIII version of Sora, Riku, and Kairi.
