  • Misha, why you knock your picking technique is beyond me. It's quite impressive.

  • Misha is god, and brown like me =)

  • you're a god. marry me. i dont care if im a guy and straight. our children will be gifted <3

  • misha, i watched your picking hand. i dont wanna play guitar anymore.

  • mystic dream withou matching headstock! great combination on this guitar!

  • Damn! MIKEPORNTOY here and there.

  • respect :)

  • vvv I've been going through and trying to analyze what concepts of physics different instruments employ, and from there work out what I need to do in order to do this or that comfortably, effortlessly, and well. For example, the trumpet uses air pressure and volume of air. For louder dynamics even more air is used with the same air pressure, because now MORE air is vibrating- similar to how a piano only has maybe one string for the bass keys, and yet as many as three for the highest keys...)

  • @ChronoGXay You over-think it, if you ask me. All those words mean nothing, in the end. Music is about FEELINGS, not so much about theory. It is an artform, and a way to express yourself. Go easy on the science, and feel some more :)

  • I've been thinking... instead of strumming harder for louder dynamics, why not just make the pick attack a little less angular so you'd be naturally applying more force to each string? (The same would apply when decelerating and maintaining the same dynamic level- the exact same amount of movement would be made per strum, only the pick attack angle changes) Sooo... if you're needing to strum really fast and yet sound quiet, you would need to have a rather angular pick attack...

  • COME TO BRAZILLLLLL

  • whats the tunning please!?

  • @jbrannon01 drop c

  • Seriously; This is a masterpiece. The way he plays power-chords, in between playing melody/harmony ´on top´ of the chords, it is just BRILLIANT. I can´t stress this enough! It is like classical spanish guitar, evolved into even MORE intensity! Maybe i am just an oversensitive musician, but i get chills all over my body, when i listen to this. Please come to Denmark!

  • Misha is beyond talented at music. So fucking jealous <3

  • he plays it perfectly its insane

  • @H03Joe Maybe that's because he made the song!

  • @JuniorPerhaps no shit

  • Hi. I think the instrumentation in your album is great, amazing. But this penchant for soft, emotional vocals contrasted by harsh uncontrolled screaming makes it sound like every other MTV teen metal band out there. The strong vocal of Maynard James Keenan or Jens Kidman, either one or the other, would better suit the texture of the music in my opinion.

  • @arseymcpherson Theres no metal bands on mtv, and i personaly think the vocals are perfect and both those suggested people are in bands, jens kidman screams too, very uncontrolled

  • @clipto4 na, he is controlled and tight. It isn't just a scream with him, although he occasionally screams, especially in their older work, it isn't his usual technique. Mtv own more than one channel and a website called Mtv rocks. Bands like Linkin Park for example. I realise that some people do not consider that metal, but it is a derivative. I know those people are in bands, I was suggesting a change in vocal style, not vocalist.

  • towards the end this reminded me a lot of AAL.

  • Misha! You're great!! PERIPHERY RUUULESSS!! This one goes to my favorites!! PLEAS COME TO VENEZUELA!! XD

  • What is the tuning used for this song?

  • @devildad1620 Drop C I believe.

  • skinny misha :B

  • @Stu1570 dude i wish my guitar teacher was cool enough to know about periphery

  • I'm not trying to be one of those cool kids who tries to get likes by typing a comment to validate their lives.... but how the fuck could you dislike this video? I mean, it's musical mastery......

  • By chilling my loins, I increase the chances of impregnating my wife.

  • @MlKEPORNTOY

Go away Mike, no one likes you.

  • @MlKEPORNTOY I like your name...

  • we need bands like you to come to Puerto Rico....btw love all of ur songs u inspire me to play that style^_^

  • missha can u tell me which is the tuning of that song?

  • the songs really shine instrumentally.. not vocalls at all haha.. except for icarus lives, which is performed better by casey sabol imo

  • Come.Too.South Africa.

I know guys who'd steal arms and legs, just to sell them, so they could see you. I've already gathered my resources.

  • @MrJesushadAegis Don't people in south africa do that anyways?

  • @zomfgiquit ssssshshhhhhhhh.. ;)

  • I think the lyrics really help with this song. Like I love this song instrumental but I think that Spencer really gives it a face.

  • Saw Periphery in Flint, MI almost a year ago and got the chance to talk to Bulb for a second. THE most humble guy ever. Can't wait to see 'em again.

  • @chrispure724 They are playing October 1st in Grand Rapids if you didn't know! I'll be there, I got VIP tickets to meet and greet with the band! (Yeah, I'm a little excited)

  • yo misha i got 2 questions. how challenging do you find playing your own material? cause i'm a huge periphery fan and your writing style is completely original and super creative. how do you go about writing riffs? and any tips please? thanks

  • guitar player misspells title of own song *troll face* problem?

  • I love it how the guy just makes these Youtube videos. You don't see Metallica doing stuff like this, for example..

  • Tuning?

  • @Gazzajay1 Drop C.

  • 'happy the man' (the band...) if they were metal!!!!!

  • i prefer the sound of this to your blackmachine b6, it sounds more compressed and somewhat clearer without being overally bright like the swap ash this could be just the camera difference on the videos though and setup at the time.

  • What chords are you hitting misha?

  • So creative

  • Dude, that is so sick that you'd replace your trem with a hardtail. i dislike trem. whammy pedal all the way!

  • God man. I love this shit. I've been in love with Periphery for like eight months. You 'd better keep it up! If you stop I'll die hahaha. I consider this song like perfect. There's nothing I feel could have been done better on it.

  • a Fucker who play Bleed by meshuggah have more view than you , bulb , for YOUR song , your sound , your epic playing ...

    Fuck this world ..

  • @AboutSelix If it wasn't for Meshuggah periphery wouldn't exist shut the fuck up.

  • Misha you are awesome!!

  • @Stu1570 Me: Could you learn me some of Buttersnips by Periphery?

*Listens to some of the song*

    Teacher: "Bleh"

He even disses AAL, then again he likes country.

Wish I had your teacher =D

  • im a huge fan of your playing! cant wait to see you guys in columbus!!

  • What is the tuning?

  • @oviefofah its drop c dude like all the BARE tunes!! (apart from the other BARE tunes)

  • Mish.. do the album version plz!! wanna see that solo!!!

  • Cuz he invented djent

  • @hashibatune nope Fred from meshuggah did. it seems like he (bulb) made it popular though.

  • Comment removed

  • @IronAndMetal582 they may not be "djent" but NOBODY IS!!! i hate people like you! djent is a phrase for the sound of a well distorted guitar with the setting to get the sound "djent djent djent". its like calling dubstep wob wob or something. fred from meshuggah DID come up with this term. and thats not something you can argue over, unless you want to argue with a PROVEN FUCKING FACT!

  • @IronAndMetal582

Meshuggah is Djent. All the characteristics of Djent are the onomatopoeia, polyrhythms, polymeters, dirty vocals, and highly down-tuned guitars. You're not automatically Djent because you play the onomatopoeia. "just wait a year or two and you'll see a bunch of new Djent that'll be different ass hell (influence-wise)" so basically, Black Sabbath isn't metal because metal evolved and people started experimenting with different sounds and gaining new influences? Idiot!

  • @Fluffypopcicle

Way to be ignorant, fool 1. I said that Meshuggah aren't EXACTLY "djent", not saying that they AREN'T "djent" (which is what you are implying I said) just that they are more of a category of their own. 2. Thats not what i was saying. Yes, music evolves, but as newer stuff is written there is more opportunities for that newer stuff to become influences, plus I doubt you're able to predict what people will call "djent" in the next 5 years. have an open mind, foo.

  • @IronAndMetal582

Meshuggah is still different from all the other Djent bands out there, but Black Sabbath is different from all the other heavy metal bands out there too. Black Sabbath is exactly heavy metal. Meshuggah is till exactly Djent. I have an open mind, that's why I think that Djent is a genre in the first place, but just as Black Sabbath will always remain exactly heavy metal Meshuggah will always remain exactly Djent.

  • Wtf. Meshuggah was not "djent" in the 90's, so their genre's not going to change now because some kids want to go off and make their own genre out of some open notes. "Djent" isn't even open notes. It's a fucking power chord with an added 5th.

  • @SimpleImp

Maybe you should listen to 90s Meshuggah because you're obviously wrong. The term Djent came from Misha commenting on Meshugga's song Aztec Two Step and that song was a demo from 95 I believe.

  • @Fluffypopcicle I'm obviously wrong? Dig through my videos buddy. "You heard it from Misha." Also, I do not remember Meshuggah ever being called djent in the 90's, so you've got some more to look into. That word was not used until recent years. Try again.

  • @SimpleImp

Yeah, and I don't remember Black Sabbath being called heavy metal when they first came out. When you invent a new genre it takes a while for a name to come out. Meshuggah was called experimental and math metal until Djent was thought of. Experimental metal is very indirect, it just means you're doing something new, and math metal is a term used for somebody using insane time signatures and playing which was done before Meshuggah even formed. Djent is the real genre name.

  • @Fluffypopcicle And with that being said, you will continue to see these "djent" bands with more than 2,000 views on youtube labeling their music Progressive/ambient/metal and the like. I think it's up to the bands to decide what genre they are.

  • @SimpleImp

Lol no it's not. The jonas brothers call themselves a rock band, does that mean they are? Nope. Trivium thinks that they're thrash metal and (I'm not joking when I say this) decided that metalcore doesn't exist anymore and the only core that exists is deathcore. It's not up for the band to decide what genre they are. Cannibal Corpse can call themselves pop, but they obviously aren't.

  • @Fluffypopcicle Whatever you say dude. You're nothing but an elitist who is going to be right no matter what anyone says or how wrong you are. I'm not having this argument. Music is subjective and arguing opinions is retarded.

  • @SimpleImp

What makes a genre isn't an opinion. I like a couple Selena Gomez songs, I'll openly admit that. Sad? I don't care, I listen to what I enjoy and I actually find something in pop that I do. I'm not an elitist. If you want an elitist then go talk to Sunderlanding. He thinks that Dream Theater Guthrie Govan, and Kiko Loureiro are all unoriginal hacks. I'm no elitist.

  • @Fluffypopcicle you and simplelmp are talking about djent like it's a genre. djent will have the same concept years down the road, because it's already been established. and djent isn't a sub-genre of metal, its a tone and picking style with the use of poly-rhythmic variations and poly-meters. that's all. and if you ask bulb. he'll say some wise ass joke like "it's a type of string". just appreciate the bounce djent style gives and be on with your day.

  • @chubbydumpling109

Djent is a genre. There are unique traits that make a djent band that don't make up any other genres. People just called Meshuggah experimental metal or math metal until the term "djent" was coined. Djent isn't just that. You need very down tuned guitars, use of polymeters and/or polyrhythms, unusually complicated philosophical lyrics etc. djent is well established as an official genre by now.

  • @Fluffypopcicle you'll never hear a band call themselves a djent band. you'll hear them call themselves a djent style progressive metal band. to say that djent is a genre is to say that djent style bands strictly must play one specific way. for example, thrash = you MUST play fast. you wouldn't say djent = you must play to a pulse of 4/4 the whole time and never accent any of the common pulses within the measure.

  • @chubbydumpling109

Poppycock. Bands have named their songs after djent, people have named their websites after djent, filenames etc. and plenty bands have called themselves djent. Djent = a number of things. Like I said, there are a number of things that categorize a band as djent. Just like there are a number of things that categorize a band as pop, indie rock, death metal, melodic death metal etc. it's not just one thing, get that through your thick skull.

  • @Fluffypopcicle But a lot of bands compile the use of polymeters and polyrhythms, down tuned guitars and philosophical lyrics, and aren't considered djenty. for example Psyopus. Quite literally, the members of that band have so much theory that they can create "anti-music" as i like to call it. They compile all of which you speak as to be "djent" yet don't have the djent sound. and i'm not arguing with you, so you don't have to be hostile, i'm giving you my opinion, and evidence to prove it.

  • @chubbydumpling109

Yes, but look how they're using it. They hardly ever use the low strings and the guitars aren't tuned that low anyways. Plus, they don't have the djent groove, it's more melody based in a sense. The guitar in djent is never more melody based unless the guitarist is using the clean channel or matching a great vocal melody from a vocalist that is actually singing. Even then, it still normally has a djenty groove to it.

  • @Fluffypopcicle so you agree, it requires a picking style and needs to have a groove to it. my point is that djent is a specific way of playing, not a genre of it's own, otherwise, the way you describe it, experimental bands for years have been djent. yet another example, i wouldn't consider Animals as Leaders as a djent style band, but they incorporate all of the aspects of djent. it's only because they dont have the groove or picking style that requires it to be so.

  • @chubbydumpling109

No, it's that plus the other things i mentioned. I never said to exclude those things, I said it was those things plus a number of other things. Animals As Leaders is the strange exception. I like to call stuff like that melodic djent, but it really doesn't have a name yet.

  • Comment removed

  • @chubbydumpling109 and the tuning doesnt have much to do with it. Corelia, a band that's been called djenty plays in Drop B, however, they avoid their 6th string more often than not. you should check them out if you haven't heard them. Specifically "The Sound Of a Glacier Moving".

  • You probably get asked this all the time, but where did the nickname "Bulb" come from?

  • Why are you such a bad ass?

  • @xSwallowxYourxPridex Haha yeah I just found that out, I'm new to Periphery and I thought the guy was all new material being debuted by Bulb. This band is sick though, I bought the album today

  • what song is this? That breakdown at 1:50 is fuckin beautiful

  • I love metal with chords like that. It changes from all the powerchords we hear in most metal song.

  • Misha how old are you??

  • Bulb, how long have you been playing guitar, out of interest?

  • That main riff is so good. Its seriously been stuck in my head for about 2 months now. I CAN'T GET IT OUT!!!!

  • Hey Misha, just wanted to let you know that I am a huge fan of periphery

Your tallent has enspired me to become a better musician. I've been playing guitar for four years now and have been trying my hardest to grow musicaly. Maybe someday I can become as good as you. Thank you for making this beautiful music for all of us to hear.

  • Bulb just one question...what goes through your mind when writing the songs??

  • hey bulb, first of all let me just say you are a great inspiration to me and just a fantastic composer as well as fantastic player. but anyway! what tuning do u usually use when u play 6 string guitars?

  • @Periphery bulb i was wondering if you will ever do covers of more bulb material i have to admit this sentence is false is my favorite song from you, are football team ran out to it before every home game and i love that damn song.

  • Dude, you are so awesome. For some reason I could hear some of Periphery and some of your solo stuff on a mystical movie like Avatar or something, haha. Big fan, I'm only 15 and I show all my guitar friends you guys. Thanks for writing great music and inspiring em to be a better guitar player (:

  • Misha, I just wanna say how awesome it is you have stayed so humble despite becoming famous. maximum respect from south africa

  • Hey Misha, big fan here all the way from Bangladesh. Just discovered Periphery, and MAN, too awesome for words. I am curious, where are you originally from? As in, are you of Indian/Pakistani origin?

  • @TheBlunderware No, my Parents are from Mauritius!

  • @Periphery Mauritius?! Wow! Maybe one of your great-great-great-... grandfathers had a dodo as a pet

  • @Periphery Well that explains why You said that You wrote "The Moonstar" in Mauritious, because when I first read that I thought "What a fucking random holiday?!Well, mind You, the weather's probably savage over there!", and then I thought "Wait, why the fuck would He bother writing and recording music there with THAT weather?!", but now that makes perfect sense!

  • @Periphery No way!? So are mine. Shitting hell that's an awesome find out.

  • @Periphery Hey you should plug the amp in to a computer and record it that way! Much cleaner and better sound quality!

  • @TorzillaHD rofl I think he knows plenty about how to record a guitar.

  • @Periphery HA!!!..i knew it, my old lady thought you were Samoan but i knew contrary wise, lol

  • Bulb play Buttersnips! :D It's my favorite!

  • hey bro! can you tell me what strings gauge do you use for drop C? thanks man, keep creating those epic shit!

  • Yo, anyone know what tuning this is in?

  • did you go to music school anywheres?

  • Comment removed

  • @periphery im getting that exact same guitar in a week or two and i would like to know your opinion on how good of a guitar it is

  • @06shinoaburame your gonna buy a guitar that youve never played before just because this guys playing it? dont be an idiot, get a guitar your comfortable with

  • @MrAndrewshepard ya sorry i mis phrased that sentance that guitar is coming in to my local store and im trying it out and i've been looking at reviews and I know that John Petrucci uses it and loves it and im wondering whats his opinion on it but I'm not buying it because someone who I look up to as a musician has it i had my eye on this guitar before i knew Bulb uses it

  • Woah! Is that a 6 string? Never seen you touch one of those before hahah

  • This is one of the only songs i found playable on a 6 string so im gonna cover this one :3

  • @theflavasava2 there are a lot of periphery songs playable on a 6 string...

  • @tehpeasant

okay an addition: also playable in drop b or drop c, most of the 6ers are drop A#

  • The chord progressions in this song are just so warm
