The news over here in Britain is GM is on the verge of applying for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, don't know what that is, but a lot of American companies that do apply for it, appear to be able to carry on trading, and remain in business.
Chapter 11 is a bankruptcy that gives the company protection so it can restructure. It is basically a huge "hang on, everyone be cool" button which is pushed.
Chapter 7 is entirely different - that is a liquidation. Critics would say GM can't file Chap 11 and it should be Chap 7.
They add $2000 to every car to pay past worker healthcare costs and their average hourly cost is $75 versus $35-$40 for the rest. So, no amount of protection will make them profitable.

I just wanted to mention something that you probably already are aware of. I find that the government mess we are in is not exclusive to the national government. I see, at least in my own area (so. cal.) that the state government is in dire straits as well as local governments. They really just don't get it and what they are doing to our country, states and cities. Deep debt, moderate debt and light debt, when it should be no debt. I would like to hear comments from others locales.

He has every right to sell that DVD for whatever price he wants to. Just because you can't afford it, or just don't want to pay for it doesn't mean you have to get ugly. Most of you who are complaining about the price would be okay spending $30 on a fancy t-shirt or some other overpriced commodity, but not something that you could actually use.

MOT, You know this fiat currency was never designed to last forever and that its taken a global effort by the Chinese and Japanese to keep the dollar afloat. So, how can we call this a conspiracy and not just a collapse long overdue. The news over here in Britain is GM is on the verge of applying for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, don't know what that is, but a lot of American companies that do apply for it, appear to be able to carry on trading, and remain in business.

Chapter 11 is a bankruptcy that gives the company protection so it can restructure. It is basically a huge "hang on, everyone be cool" button which is pushed.
Chapter 7 is entirely different - that is a liquidation. Critics would say GM can't file Chap 11 and it should be Chap 7.
They add $2000 to every car to pay past worker healthcare costs and their average hourly cost is $75 versus $35-$40 for the rest. So, no amount of protection will make them profitable.
