I just wanted to apologize for sounding so rude and mean. I really didn't mean to come off so harsh and offend so many. I didn't even think when I posted my comment and I regret it now. So I am sorry and I am glad there are other people out there who enjoy doing theatre as much as I do.
@born4broadway It's alright. I think it's harder to phrase something on the net because you can't put across inflection, so simple things can be interpreted harshly. I guess 'think before you speak' can be edited to: 'think before pressing enter' lol Yeah, we all love theatre here as well :)
I'm not bashing Lansbury, she's Mrs Potts! Her acting is appropriate for broadway, but on film it looks a little silly. But srsly - the accent is just NO. If she couldn't pull off cockney, she should have just stayed American, like Hearn. Also, you need to sort your Lovett's attitude problem. Critique constructively if you will, but she is bashing these kids' performance, and they really did give all they had!
On a personal note, @dramafit300 - would like to see your interpretation :)
@raille Ya I thought all that stuff thats done on Broadway looked silly but its need for broadway. In a movie you have close ups so you dont have to speak loudly or make gigantic gestures, but in Broadway you have to be huge and crazy cuz its just you and the house ya dig?
And she doesnt mean to be rude or mean shes just really, really critical about Broadway because she loves it so much lol
And im not sure if we have videos of us on here...maybe from state. ill check and if so ill post. :)
@dramafit300 Ya there are no videos on here of us. Im sure if you search 2010 5th Avenue Theater High School Awards in Seattle, WA you'll find us. If you wish to that is. :)
@dramafit300 Actually heres the recording of us at our Awards night at the 5th Ave. Theater in Seattle. Were up for best show and im up for best actor, even though I didnt sing too well that night lol well if youd like to watch hope you enjoy. :)
All I have up so far is Priest. It takes a million years to get these up. lol But yeah, it won't let me put the link on here. So just look up A Little Priest- University High School. :)
watched the other videos though and the Beggar Woman which im assuming is you is delightful. Very gross, slightly offensive, and wonderful all at the same time its just that Anthony and Sweeney struggle with their singing; tuning. Im not the greatest singer but im pretty decent to where I know that something is wrong. Sorry if I sound rude. Im sure you guys had a blast doing it though, I know we did.
@dramafit300 Thank you, I love playing eccentric characters! Yeah, I think nearly all of us will put our hands up and admit that we're not singers, but the first thing our teachers looked for during the auditioning process was our singing ability. This is the best of those who auditioned.
Given what we sounded like when we started, I think most of us came out OK, but at the end of the day, like you said, it was an unforgettable and fun experience ^^
Umm...Im not gonna be a negative nancy cuz I hate haters but...its an interesting interpretation. And before you bash Angela Lansbury and the origional production think about the 8 out of 9 Tony's they won for them including Best Actress- Angela Lansbury. Sweeny is a hard show to do. I did it with born4broadway and was Sweeney to her Lovett, but I wont be presumptious and say that were better than anyone, however, this show takes a certain musical ability to pull off and...just not quite there.
Everything has an opposing view. I'm just glad the one person who hated our production is on the other side of the world, and wasn't given the pleasure of being on of the few who saw it live
*All but one cast member (the girl at the front in the white and blue dress) has had NO classical vocal training.
*In consideration of the age of the cast, this night they were exhausted, after doing a total of three performance the previous day, well into the night.
*I hate to point out the obvious, but anyone who 'just doesn't care' for something, doesn't comment on it, they spend that valuable time looking in the mirror and telling themself how amazing they are.
*As far as 'offending' Sondheim with our hideous dancing and singing, you need to check out the 1982 broadway show that HE near-enough co-directed, in which Johanna DESECRATES GFALB, and Angela Lan...sbury, well. Who knew a Brit could screw up a cockney accent so badly.
*This was The Blandford SCHOOL production. All but four people in the cast were 16 and under.
The very name 'born4broadway' suggests the very opposite ... and that comment WOAH im sure Sondheim would be so impressed by your cocky approach to playing Mrs Lovett. Get over yourself.
@yunaguardian001 It was so fun that words will never do the adjective 'fun' any justice. If that even made sense... Point is, it was amazing and I wish I could do it again T_T
sorry i just dont like the dancers during the prelude...the rest is very good though, if a little slow
