  • I think I just crapped myself. I'd PAY to see this!

  • This is great!

  • This is so gangster, I didn't even know what handbells were, I was just searching classical gas lol

  • Despite the fact that they sound quite good. I was surprised too hear this played in a church.

  • @20031200 Maybe this was done in an afternoon or evening concert, rather than in a worship service?

  • .....WOW!

  • anyone here attend concordia?

  • @MacPr0xnxx0 Both of my handbell teachers have and I plan to after I finish undergrad...

  • i remember playing this in the 7th grade, good times <3

  • We're doing this song in my Bell choir! That one-and-uh-two-and-uh-three and-uh part in the beginning, kills me every time. Hahaha

  • Has anyone ever noticed in the old Mason Williams recording that, when the horn section first comes in, about HALF of the horns are hideously off-key? Why would they release a recording with such an awful flaw? I wince every time I hear it, which is doubly sad seeing as how-- without the orchestra-- that tune really wouldn't have been much.

Nice job with the bells, though.

  • @sharkring Mason himself told me he hated the trumpet section and that it was Mike Post's idea and he never plays it when he's playing solo. He said he only plays it at all because it's expected as part of the overall piece. Also, as a note, the trumpets being off-key is more likely to be caused by phasing in the studio and other issues. When several instruments are all playing the same thing, the sound waves often cancel one another out. They didn't know how to handle that well in 1968.

  • I remember playing this piece at the Kravis center, its extremely hard to get it right

    nice job :)

  • Absolutely amazing. The drums are a very nice touch.

  • Oh yes go go go go

  • our group played this for our spring concert it was fun

  • thats song is SOOO hard to play!!! theres so many sharps and flats. our class was playing it, and it took us soo long to get it right!!!

  • Fabulous!

  • Awesome! Wonderful! Love it!

  • Good minus the bells

  • I'm not too crazy about the drums either, but oh my word. we tried sightreading this piece in our highschool handbell choir b/c one of the seniors has always wanted to play it, and it was hard as mess. i'm so excited though! now that i've actually heard it, it'll be easier to play. wow yall are good! fantastic performance!!

  • Beautiful! Excellent! Unfortunately I'm not a fan of adding drums into any handbell performance. Just doesn't mix in my mind, two instruments from different worlds. The drums are made to keep a beat, if you play bells right you shouldn't need the extra help. Drums just don't play well with the bells. Other then that Fantastic ringing.

  • Actually handbells and drums aren't that different if you really think about it. They are both percussion instruments. If anything, it adds to the piece as I was in the group just below them last year and I heard this song without the drums and it did not sound right at all. It sounded like something was missing without the drums.

  • The drums actually helped the piece sound much better. If you were to play this piece on handbells without drums, it would not sound right at all. I should know as I was in the group below them last year (this year I'm with them) and they played it once without the drums and it sounded weird, like there was something missing.

  • I was a Pacific Ringer (a peewee ringer) many many moons ago under the same teacher. Playing handbells is hard work. These guys are good!

  • wtf? those people are midfreaks? :DD
