Wow, i was watching this great video, and only 7 minutes into it i found out it's you 88 hawaii. I have seen at least 200 of your videos. Thanks the most for this one.
He didn't do a tailslide (like a stall turn, but instead of kicking in some rudder and doing a pivot, you slide backwards and then you flick back onto the nose) $200 for 20 mins? just get your own rating... Thats what im doing and im just 18
why does there seem to be a problem with the audio??? it sounds as if at the start, there is a speed problem with the recording as if they have swallowed helium making them sound like children/chipmunks
Oh dude, that is so awesome... I'll be doing avionics in the future, so this is awesome! Man, but $200 for 20 minutes? That's a fortune. Unless I get employeed by Boeing.
Im lucky to have a dad who's an aerobatic instructor and your absolutely right about it being better than a rollercoaster ride. The stall turn or Hammerhead turn is my favourite... Totally quiet at the top of the turn and then feeling the rush while accelerating... niiiice :-)
Thermals are air between the ocean and mountain. The hot air rises when the ocean air hits the land mass. It pushes the glider higher & higher. You can fly up there indefinitely because of this effect.
I visited Steve whilst on holiday a couple of weeks ago, and he gave me a quick fling in the fox: Let me fly the aerotow, and then taught me how to fly loops. Lotsa fun, and snap rolls are awesome! Also did some hundred knot ridge running at low altitude - the fox is a lovely flying machine, amazing roll authority for a glider. The folks there were real friendly, and I had a great time. Fantastic!
I'm really glad you got to meet Steve! Did you see the video first, or did you take a ride before seeing the video? I am wondering if you mentioned my video up on youtube...
As it turns out, I saw the video first, between booking my holiday and going. So I just included half a day in my plans to go and see him. I also spent half a day ridge running in one of the old schweizers - the instructor I had there was happy to clear me for solo flying, but I didn't really feel I had enough aerotow experience to take him up on it. And no ... silly me, I didn't mention the video. DOH!
im learning to fly at the moment. gliders are just unreal in how quit and smooth(s) evey thing is. i have only done aerobatics in an powered aircraft = cessna 152 aerobat. it can only do basic stuff but stall turns are just the best, how evey thing is weight less. i might learn to fly a glider after i get my pilots licence. as some one said you just cant say how amazing they are. this is one of the things you HAVE to do at least once in your life.
Words can not describe powerless flight. Going along for a ride in a f-4 is fun, but Ive always wanted to get inside an acrobatic glider. Amazing! Thank you for letting me see your experience.
I had the oppurtunity to go up in a Grob K13 when I was out in Michigan, and the stall turns and knife edges were simple amazing...Isn't powerless flight amazing?
