Talk to a communist ask him "do you oppose liberty" and he will answer "no" even though we can see clearly that his ideology will lead to the abridgment and eventually total destruction of liberty, he - as an individual - does not oppose anti-liberty. I once briefly considered voting for Ron Paul, but after I put more thought into it I changed my mind. The thing is, I have a job, I want to keep my job and I need to keep my job in order to pay rent and buy food. Under Ron Pauls plan, I'll probably lose my job (I work for a construction firm that specializes in highway maintenance). Obama is signing a bill that will keep us in business for another three years. Ron Paul is opposed to spending federal money on, well, anything.
It takes it from us and counterfeits the rest, which reduces the purchasing power of everyone who holds dollars; which is called inflation.
That is why we are so socially stratified.

3 Reasons Ron Paul can win in 2012:
1) in 2008 alot of his supporters were young people now able to vote and influence their peers. +10-20%
2) No Democratic primary, so democrats that still want to vote can register Republican to support Dr. Paul. + 10-20%
3) Obama his disappointed many supporters on multiple issues, ie. ending wars, national debt, transparency... +10-20%
Add that on top of the 10% they already give him credit for 40-70% could potentially vote for Ron Paul = )

You misread what I was trying to say, I was speaking of individuals, not the ideology itself. Talk to a communist ask him "do you oppose liberty" and he will answer "no" even though we can see clearly that his ideology will lead to the abridgment and eventually total destruction of liberty, he - as an individual - does not oppose anti-liberty. The same goes for fascists, an individual fascist will say "In a Jewish controlled world we are not free, I fight for freedom".

I once briefly considered voting for Ron Paul, but after I put more thought into it I changed my mind. The thing is, I have a job, I want to keep my job and I need to keep my job in order to pay rent and buy food. Under Ron Pauls plan, I'll probably lose my job (I work for a construction firm that specializes in highway maintenance). Obama is signing a bill that will keep us in business for another three years. Ron Paul is opposed to spending federal money on, well, anything.

I agree with you that there are a bunch of senators and house members (and even VP's and presidents) that have profited like this, especially from military stocks.
If Ron is doing the same thing, just "smaller" its still inappropriate.

I mean, asset backed currency, including gold and silver, was what our founders had in mind, and goes back as far as mankind as being the surest, most sound form of money.
If Ron Paul owned several water wells, drank 6 to 8 glasses of water per day, and recommended that everyone else drink 6 to eight glasses per day, would the fact that he owned water wells make his recommendation a conflict of interest/inappropriate, or just sound, healthy, common sense advice that he practices himself?

Yes, if Ron was making money from people buying that water that he was promoting from his governmental seat, that would still be in appropriate.
Think of it this way, what is the first thing you think Soda manufactures are going to attack? That water is bad? No. They will attack the messenger for his inappropriate holdings.
This may seem small now, but if a gold standard starts to look like a threat, Ron's investments WILL be an issue.

The economy will have totally crashed and burned, with extreme poverty, dislocation and starvation, with the country in a "Mad Max" scenario for many years before the gold standard might become a possibility. RP will be long since retired or expired by then.
There are so many real, in-your-face issues that are seriously threatening us now to spend your mental power and time on. To concern yourself with this issue is past absurd.

I'm serious, you're concerned about the least likely scenario, in the face of all sorts of HUGE, HORRIBLE current events that will likely destroy the country. We should be so lucky that events would make RP's mining stocks become an issue. But it ISN'T going to happen, so get with the here and now.

Ron's holding are questionable given the stance he takes, and the platform in government he has.
