Connery, Dalton and certainly Craig are closest to the efficiently indifferent assassin that is Bond - a character Fleming created from his memory of deathly serious secret operatives during WW2.
Craig is a dangerous, taciturn and lonely Bond - for me the best realisation. But the storylines have to continue to reflect the intensity he brings to the role. First movie did, second began to slip back to old Bond habits (even the theatrically evil general showed up!) Keep it real.
Thank God for Daniel Craig saving the Bond Franchise. Connery was good (Never Say Never was awful), Roger Moore was an abomination (Moonraker especially(Live and Let Die wasnt that bad), no point even mentioning George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton kinda helped (but not much), Pierce Brosnan was pretty good (but got silly gadgets). But Craig was back to basics assassin like Fleming imagined, the best Bond so far.
I hear a lot of people complaining about Craig, saying he's "not charming as Sean Connery" or because he's "Not as handsome as Pierce Brosnan."
But out of all the actors who played Bond, his performance is the closest to what I've read in the books.
I never read many of them, and I did like Connery and Brosnan, but Craig just Fucking Nailed IT!!!!! No cutie, charming 60s spy. Just a tormented assassin that learns how to deal with his profession through experience.
One thing puzzled me. In the timeline this is the first time he became an agent, he does not even have his license to kill yet (wonder why in the next one he leaves a trail of death for his boss to find, lol). Yet he has all of this technology that was not around at the time where this movie should set (before all the other James Bonds).
I was under the impression this was a James Bond ret-con. I believe this is completely different from the current James Bond, and occurs in the modern day.

the song and the intro to this isnt too bad!! but they should do it like the old films, loads of sexy scantilly dressed girls dancing and floating around walther ppks and dark silhouette type images, you know what i mean? fuck what the pc brigade say!!
@avi8r1 true but i didnt like the song!! they should try to get tina turner to sing a few more like they did with shirley bassey, get it sounding a bit john barryish with the horn section etc

3 things resurected the Bond franchise: Daniel Craig, writer Paul Haggis, and as much as I hate to admit it, the Jason Bourne franchise. The Bourne trilogy pushed Bond to reinvent itself and make James Bond plausible again, not just some missle car driving sex addict. Oh and by the way fuck Pierce Brosnan!!

great song...i like the james bond movies but i got stuck with the regular james bond ((cant remember his name)) that i cant get used to the new one :P
@NinjaDanzeVideo He certainly wasn't, I'd say he was the best Bond. Especially when it comes to acting, Dalton was convincing in every little second, it's understadable that they originally wanted him instead of Moore. Dalton turned down that offer though as he felt he was too young to play 007 as he knew him in the book. Lazenby only had the bad luck of being cast in a horribly written and directed film, if he was cast in a better one we would probably remember him as something great as well.
@xxhypedipodxx yeah instead it has daniel craig beating the shit out of everyone on screen. kinda better should be at least one dancing lady though :s
This film was good, but where the hell was Q-Branch, and all the plot voucher gadgets?
They seem to have scrapped a lot of the tradtional motifs
(e.g Q Branch, Moneypenny) that made the films so memorable, and made it into a stupid vendetta type plot. I mean what kind of bad guys were Le Chieffre and Dominic Geene?!. I hope in Bond 23 they get rid of this stupid plot that has dragged over two mediocre films and return to some real bond features.
Q-Branch is a restriction on the storyline when it was originally a liberating factor. Stop forcing writers to rewrite movies you love. Casino Royale is fantastic, and the James Bond movies are classic for the reinvention and representation of the times.
Like it or not its more a reflection on your own views than a reflection on the movie making industry and the james bond franchise.
@jackowackopb Neither Q or Moneypenny were in the original Casino Royale novel. And compared to the novel, the movie is less gritty and intense. Most of those gadgets and invisible cars were introduced in the films
@shockingfloid , great point about the animation. Originally, this was the case. With Goldfinger, golden-painted women were used because, of course, the movie was Goldfinger and there was a gold-painted woman that appeared in the film. However, someone got the idea to always use women. Nothing wrong with beautiful women, but all those other intros that just have naked women jumping up and down on trampolines or having words or pictures projected on their skin were really unoriginal.
How come this movie is never consistent with its guns? In some scenes, Bond has a suppressed guns and others he doesn't? Is there a reason all these guys keep switching back and forth with their guns, suppressed and unsuppressed?
@pres917ist Suppressors are detatchable, and wear down very quickly. When you're not in for a silent kill, it's probably best to take it off or your suppressor's going to stop silencing shots very quickly.
@pres917ist There are two main types of weapons suppressors, flash suppressors and noise suppressors; Noise suppressors work by introducing multiple pockets and channels for the propellant of the projectile to pass through. By keeping the internal baffles moist, a good quality noise suppressor can reduce the sound of a fired shot by tens of decibels. Automatic pistols with noise suppression often feature a locking slide to further decrease sound from firing.
*And I'm a Connery fan too. Connery's the original and is therefore going to be remembered as the best because his track record of films were great(Dr. No-Diamonds are Forever), while Moore will be known as the cliche bond but never really left an impact as Connery with the films he did(Live&Let Die-TSWLM) were great. Craig's Bond is more lethal and believable than any of the others and is more well suited for this generation.
However, even tho this is supposed to be the 'first' Bond, they made some big oops in making thisThe original was made in '64, and they showed on one of the cameras 2006 AND the cars were from 2006 as well. If this was truely the 'first bond adventure' then they would have made sure everything pre-1964. PLUS Craig does NOT have the same kind of wry humor as the others, even tho the Dr. No Bond didn't have one-liners as the others.Altho the openig song and credits are very Bond-y.
@tobi1480 I get what your saying but this is not a prequel to the 64's Bond. This was a reboot meaning if you saw any of the other films it kinda doesn't matter. This is the new Bond if he were around today. It pays tribute to the other films (Aston Martin, M, bond babes) but gives Bond a more lethal edge to his persona
@tobi1480 I don't thin you understand, the new James Bond's are a reboot of the old series, it is basically redone from the ground up, and is independant of all the other bonds, this new series tends to not focus on gadgets and James Bond being a pimp as much, and is more about the action and making the character of James Bond more believable.
A reboot is different than a remake, a reboot is when a series, after having sat dormant for a few years is "resurrected" and updated up to the standards of the time, often retconning many previously established canon facts.
@tobi1480 You know Final Fantasy right? Each game is totally seperate from the others, but they borrow and share loads of elements and storylines from each other. That's kind of what this is. A new installment that borrows elements (most of them actually) but establishes new ground.
I thought this movie was better than QoS but I liked QoS nonetheless. It didn't make shit sense and it felt like all the action was like put together so fast that I couldn't even tell what was going on.
The good thing about Quantum's failures was that they weren't Craig's fault because he did a pretty good job despite the Michael Bay-like action sequences. I'm still gonna see the next Bond film.
Craig and Connery are the only two Bonds who have fit the real character from the books. Brutal, powerful, witty and attractive to females. Those two convince me that they are badass British operatives, whereas Moore and Brosnan just make me laugh. Dalton was up there, too
@Aileron2112 I agree with you. I started losing interest in the series after "Goldeneye", and was very pleased with Craig's Bond, since he played him like Connery did, ruthless fighter, witty, and very good with the ladies.
these r decent films but they r missing something huge that the originals had. such a shame that people r accepting these films as "james bond" films. u will know what i mean if u think back to the sean connerry or roger moore films
@BojikArc This is an earlier, less experienced Bond compared to the already-established Bonds we saw with Connery/Moore - earlier in his career or somethin'
dude when i was in the theaters i the first time i saw this song i thought it was called arm yourself everyone was confused and than when it said you know my name a billom times at the end everyone was like ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I absolutely adore this movie, Craig is in my opinion the best Bond since Connery (he's not better than connery!), but this film truly topped all of Brosnan's films....and the theme is fantastic!
yea i kinda liked license to kill better it is the first bond movie i sa so thats the reason i like it better than living daylights but you only live 2ice is to japny
What do you mean, The Living Daylights is the older, but i love the combo of actors, great actors they are, great locations. and odviously the story is fabulous, opium trade in Afghanistan, being funded by the russian goverment.
and You only live twice, its got it all, locations, probably Connerys best performance, maybe not his best film, thats Goldfinger.
@rorrt no i mean my first bond movie was license to kill so thats why i liked it so much because the new experince of james bond was cool and than i kept watching license to kill but again you only live twice was like so much japnise and i didnt like that
Not at all. I have much more to say if you want me to go into detail. Daniel Craig comes the closest to Fleming's description of James Bond. It's not about the hair or how tall he is, it's about the way he carries himself and how he handles dangerous situations. But after I read your comment for a second time, I really don't think you meant it. That, or you haven't read the novels.
Everyone can express their opinion besides the earlier films were made in the style of the more fantastic (gadgets, cars, etc.) and videos of the actor are made in the style of movie morals, besides the actor is completely different from those who have played Bond before.
@sc1976a1 Die Another Day was good, in my opinion. I actually thought Craig was going to be a horrible Bond at first, but I was about as wrong as possible.
Bourne, James Bourne. I like Craig as an actor but can't buy him at all as Bond. This theme song is awful, just awful.

How do you do a bond title sequence with no scantily clad women? I cry foul! lol
lordofwrath88 1 year ago
Craig and Connery are the only two Bonds who have fit the real character from the books. Brutal, powerful, witty and attractive to females. Those two convince me that they are badass British operatives, whereas Moore and Brosnan just make me laugh. Dalton was up there, too
Aileron2112 1 year ago
@Aileron2112 I agree with you. I started losing interest in the series after "Goldeneye", and was very pleased with Craig's Bond, since he played him like Connery did, ruthless fighter, witty, and very good with the ladies.
edybeast 1 year ago
@Aileron2112 I agree with you completely

these r decent films but they r missing something huge that the originals had. such a shame that people r accepting these films as "james bond" films. u will know what i mean if u think back to the sean connerry or roger moore films
lewisisdaman 1 year ago
@lewisisdaman He's not as suave as the other Bonds, that's what I think is lacking. He seems less sophisticated compared to them.
BojikArc 1 year ago
@BojikArc This is an earlier, less experienced Bond compared to the already-established Bonds we saw with Connery/Moore - earlier in his career or somethin'
jerboa101 1 year ago
@jerboa101 I know, this is actually his first mission as 007. The beginning sequence shows how he actually got his position, which was pretty cool.
BojikArc 1 year ago
Craig was great in this movie.

This is in the top 5, but Quantam Of Solace is in the bottom 5 when it comes to Bond films.
Also,
Connery > Brosnan > Dalton = Craig = Lazenby >>>>> Moore

I absolutely adore this movie, Craig is in my opinion the best Bond since Connery (he's not better than connery!), but this film truly topped all of Brosnan's films....and the theme is fantastic!

Best bond title sequence by a country mile. I was so disappointed when they went back to the typical "girls and guns" sequence in Q of Solace.
workingclassbum 1 year ago
well one the girls and guns were acuttly good and 2 the quantum of solace theme was a boy and girl

my top 5 bond movies are
1.goldfinger
2.goldeneye
3.casino royale
4.the spy who loved me
5.licence to kill
delta2ish 1 year ago
@delta2ish
*sharp intake of air*
Id keep that list the same, but The Living Daylights is better than License to Kill.
and You Only live twice instead of Golden Eye.
rorrt 1 year ago
yea i kinda liked license to kill better it is the first bond movie i sa so thats the reason i like it better than living daylights but you only live 2ice is to japny
delta2ish 1 year ago
What do you mean, The Living Daylights is the older, but i love the combo of actors, great actors they are, great locations. and odviously the story is fabulous, opium trade in Afghanistan, being funded by the russian goverment.
and You only live twice, its got it all, locations, probably Connerys best performance, maybe not his best film, thats Goldfinger.
rorrt 1 year ago
@rorrt no i mean my first bond movie was license to kill so thats why i liked it so much because the new experince of james bond was cool and than i kept watching license to kill but again you only live twice was like so much japnise and i didnt like that
delta2ish 1 year ago
oh i see,
my first in cinema was The World Is Not Enough, though the first out was Goldeneye, in 1995.

@rorrt so yea see my point because license to kill was my first one so thats why i like it so much

5. The Man with the Golden Gun

I thin that they had to spent too much money on Die Another Day, that;s why Bond's style has changed.
xavieremanuel 1 year ago
The best Bond movie in years. Pierce Brosnan's last Bond movie, Die Another Day, I think, was awful. Daniel Craig is great as Bond
sc1976a1 2 years ago 35
Daniel Craig is great as Bond ?? LOL, he is the worst Bond ever...
kondi192 1 year ago
LOL you're a dumbass...
iiUsedToBeCool 1 year ago
only that you have to say fool ??
kondi192 1 year ago
That, or you haven't read the novels.
iiUsedToBeCool 1 year ago
Everyone can express their opinion besides the earlier films were made in the style of the more fantastic (gadgets, cars, etc.) and videos of the actor are made in the style of movie morals, besides the actor is completely different from those who have played Bond before.
kondi192 1 year ago
really the movies wernt how ian filmings books detailed it casino royale and sorta of quantum of solace were the books
delta2ish 1 year ago
@kondi192
i agree, Roger Moore was great for the 70s into the 80s with that sort of tongue in cheek humour, with the gadgets, and the use of locations.
These films are great though, and i personally thought Quantium Of Solace was pretty good.
but my favorite film is The Living Daylights, Dalton a very underatted Bond.
rorrt 1 year ago
yeah The living daylights was great movie :)

@sc1976a1
Craig did a much better job than Brosnan, however nobody can top the best James Bond: Sean Connery.

@sc1976a1 Definitely. Craig is brillaint and Eva Green is brilliant

@sc1976a1 Die Another Day was good, in my opinion. I actually thought Craig was going to be a horrible Bond at first, but I was about as wrong as possible.
