INSANE BP-Apologizer Congressman Rep. Joe Barton MUST now Step Down From his Energy Post ~ sign petition at environment.change.org/petitions/view/ tell_bp apologizer_rep_joe_barton_to_step_down_from_energy_post
This is ridiculous! I understand due process..it is one of the things that makes our Justice system great. But the Oil Spill was Clearly BP's Fault. There shouldn't have been any negotiations in the first place, BP should have paid up as soon as they found it it was their damn spill! The relief is needed immediately. The due process and investigation shall follow. It is my hope people will realize that with big business like this sometimes the Gov needs to have their hand in things.
@lilfisticuffs I don't think you realize the precedent this sets. What do you think will happen to us if they can get by doing this to BP? Nobody will get their day in court, not even the innocent!
This Republikkkan PIMP..... Should Submit His Resignation.....This Parasite, is totally Unqualified to be a Congressman!! He is clearly a TRAITOR to his country, and to his Fellow Americans! This man, gets paid by the American Tax Payers.....so he can go on Betraying his country....JUST HORRIBLE!!!
agree with everything he said - its respecting the rule of law. even with the most despicable of crimes, we shouldn't bypass due process or current rules to favor politically favorable outcomes. it sets a horrible precedent that unfortunately most people can't see because the consequences aren't seen here and now. the truth is, we're a "here and now" society and don't think about unintended consequences. just think, next time those actions could be used against you.
@jwinter228 Well Hell, quess we all need to learn to get use to the rewriting of laws as needed for the Money interest of Big BIZNESS, and the Powers of Executive Orders on the Wim.
i will tell you what a tragedy is Mr Joe Barton, a tragedy is a African country who has lived with oil leaks and pollution for over 50 years in Nigeria, reducing their life expectancy to 40, because of polluted waters, and some of these oil companies are owned by Americans.

@RonPaulGeorgeRingo I should add that nothing prevents them now from putting the squeeze on individuals w/o due process as well. If the president can do this to BP, we don't stand a chance with governors, mayors, or police chiefs.
@4TIMESAYEAR. Awwwww......I'm crying tears for B.P. What about the 11 people that R dead bcuz B.P. didn't want 2 take the time 2 create a safe environment rather than worry about getting the rig on line? Not 2 mention, B.P. concentrated on drilling technology & NOT the safety necessary 2 cap an existing oil well if something went wrong. I could care less about what this idiot Joe Barton says. This guy is an apologist 4 big oil & a disgrace 2 the country. No spine whatsoever. Political scum.
Someone dump a fuc*ing bottle of oil into this Joe Barton's mouth. What a piece of shit American. If I ever see you I'm going to jail cause I'm gonna fuck you up!
Fu*k you and Fuc* P.B. My friends and I are never going to another P.B. nor Arco gas station again.
I too apologize, for a House of Representatives where it is possible for the oil industry, by spending to date more than $1,400,000.00 to get Rep. Joe Barton, Republican of Texas, elected again and again to our U.S. Congress.
Make no mistake - Joe Barton, Republican of Texas, speaks not for the people of Texas, but alone for the oil industry and in support of their abuses, now including the pollution of the Gulf and the destruction of existences of thousands of hard-working Americans.
Texas Rep. Joe Barton breathtakingly reveals his corporate strings. If people want Government to stay out of business and industry, then perhaps business and industry needs to stay out of Government. Talk about a bought and paid for Tool of Corporate America! What a RIDICULOUS position for this ass to take.
Rep Joe Barton, You should be ashamed of what you said but thank you for retracting the statement later today. If BP goes under at least we have this $20 billion protected in this fund. Thank you Obama.
to the commenters shrieking in horror over Barton's "Shakedown" analogy: Where is your outrage at MMS--the bureaucrats in charge of inspecting these platforms for danger/safety violations--who gave DW Horizon a clean bill of health LESS THAN 10 DAYS BEFORE the explosion? I guess we'll never know which side was ultimately responsible, seeing as current law splits govt / corp liablity such that nobody is responsible because everybody is responsible. This was a failure of government regulation.
@PenguinProseMedia. Yes, it was a breakdown of govt regulation. The MMS was bought and paid for by the multi-national corporations THANKS TO GEORGE W. BUSH!! Do you think Obama's been kinda busy since he walked into the door? I mean, Jeesus! Bush left him a bullet riddled sinking ship and all he's been doing is scurrying to try to save the ship on many levels. He gets a pass on this one as far as I'm concerned, whereas BUSH APPOINTED incompetent people into FEMA.
@HangProgressives. Sorry, you've got me confused with some other communist. I'm an American true and through. Birnbaum was/is another Washington DC lacky, just like Ken Salazar is. The facts remain that the MMS was bought and paid for by big oil. George Bush's friend. Hell, Bush used to call the Prince Al Fasal Turkey his brother. Bush was and is well entrenched with big oil. Always was, always is. And if you didn't notice, his 1st trip was to Communist China after leaving the Presidency.
Your statement implies you defend Barton for apologizing to BP.
Would you really care to repeat your defense of Joe Barton's statement to the face of a group of Louisiana fishermen while standing on the shore where the oil is washing up?
If you say you do, I look forward to your uploading a video of yourself doing just that.
Any medical expenses you incur are, of course, your own.
@HangProgressives. How about hanging yourself and your bed buddy Glen Beck. Yeah, don't think I'm not onto your ilk. I just watched Glen Beck Mr. Crazy and he was saying the same things about Progressives. If you ever bothered to study American history & the actors in creating the Constitution, you'd know they too were MASSIVE PROGRESSIVES of their time. There was NOTHING like the Constitution at its time and allowing a man Freedom of Speech was UNHEARD OF moron.
@HangProgressives. Is that right HangProgressives? "You the people" are going to deal w/me huh? You and who's army tough guy? You sure do sound really tough hiding behind that video monitor there pal. I think you've been watching to too many Joe McCarthy videos.
@HangProgressives. You should be familiar with Communists. Remember what Bush did when he left the Presidency? 1st stop communist China to thank them for all kickbacks he and his buddies got by making China most favored trade nation w/the U.S. Plus, Bush did nothing to stop the NAFTA/CAFTA "free trade" agreements during his terms. Bush was/is a scumbag sellout Benedict Arnold when it comes to selling out his country to the highest bidder. Just like most neo-cons are.
Open your eyes folks - your government is extorting money from private business with no legal precedent. That money comes from middle class British pensioners - people like you and me. Sue BP for damages in court, dont give the Democrats a check for $20 Billion paid for private citizens in another country.
@s7rugg1es. Oh yea. Thats a great idea. Did you bother to do the research on the last time BP got sued? It took 10 years to settle that case. Yeah sure, everyones got a big time lawyer in their back pocket just waiting to sue B.P. for them on a contingent basis. Yeah right. Obama. Good job! Keep on their asses!
@s7rugg1es. I'm crying big tears for those British pensioners. What about the 11 people that needlessly died? What about the thousands of Americans that are now out of work bcuz of a FOREIGN company in our ocean. U think I care a rats arse about England? R U an American or a Brit sympathizer? Its a disgrace that anyone would have an ounce of empathy for B.P. They make LOTS of money and profit. They can stand to lose a few bucks. Screw them.
NOT ONE WORD about the Americans in the Gulf who have had their ENTIRE LIVES destroyed. The families of the 11 who were incinerated alive. Not a damn word about the destruction for decades of the Gulf fishing industries, the beaches, the once beautiful marshes and waterways...
ONLY A REPUBLICAN could see past the worst environmental disaster in US history, and then APOLOGIZE to them for actions to help the people of America.
I've got news for you, Barton. YOU ARE NO AMERICAN!
Barton is ashamed that BP was subjected to a shakedown for $20 billion. He is not ashamed or apologizing to the people burned to death and the people losing their livelihoods as the Gulf Coast environment was destroyed.
Joe Barton you are nothing but a whore to the oil industry.............keep your pants open wide so the oil industry can shove another 1.5 million dollars up your posterior! You are a disgrace to America!
