'Aishah (ra) reported: "Umm Habibah and Umm Salamah mentioned to Allah's Messenger, peace be upon him, a church in which they saw drawings while in Abyssinia, whereupon he said: 'Those people used to build a place of worship over the grave of a righteous man among them when he died and make such drawings in it.These will be the worst of people in the sight of Allah on the Day of Resurrection.'' I would like to add something for the argument how come Chishti is known as Aulia. To identify who is real wali we have to have that kind of eye and ability to vision. During the time of Prophet Mohammed *saw* there were false Prophets available but Sahiaba identified Prophet Mohammed *saw* as real and true Prophet and followed him.

Aulia means : Friend. Allah (swt) mentioned the word Auwlia in 85 places in Quran . Surah Fateah Allah (Swt) Ahdinas Seeratal Mustaqeem and Anamta Alayhim the people who are on right path.. Now refer Surah Nisa Where the categorically mentioned the righteous - beloved people are defined Nabiyeen, Siddiquin, Shuhadah , Salahaleen - Awwliay Allah falls in Shuhadah or Salahaleen category. The Sufi movement has spanned several continents and cultures over a millennium, at first expressed through Arabic, then through Persian, Turkish and a dozen other languages.[7] ṭuruq "Orders", which are either Sunnī or Shīī in doctrine, mostly trace their origins from the Islamic Prophet Muhammad through his cousin Alī, with the notable exception of the Naqshbandi who trace their origins through the first Caliph, Abu Bakr.[8]
The chief aim of all Sufis is to seek the pleasing of God by working to restore within themselves the primordial state of fitra,[15] described in the Qur'an. In this state nothing one does defies God, and all is undertaken by the single motivation of love of God. A secondary consequence of this is that the seeker may be led to abandon all notions of dualism or multiplicity, including a conception of an individual self, and to realize the Divine Unity.
To enter the way of Sufism, the seeker begins by finding a teacher, as the connection to the teacher is considered necessary for the growth of the pupil. The teacher, to be genuine, must have received the authorization to teach (ijazah) of another Master of the Way, in an unbroken succession (silsilah) leading back to Sufism's origin with the Prophet Muhammad. It is the transmission of the divine light from the teacher's heart to the heart of the student.
In its early stages of development Sufism effectively referred to nothing more than the internalization of Islam.[37] According to one perspective, it is directly from the Quran, constantly recited, meditated, and experienced, that Sufism proceeded, in its origin and its development.[38] Others have held that Sufism is the strict emulation of the way of Muhammad, through which the heart's connection to the Divine is strengthened.[39]
Usually the silsila reaches back from one's own teacher up to the Prophet, with whom all tarekats claim to have originated although there have been modifications along the way. A Sufi's silsila is his badge of identity and source of legitimation; it provides him with a list of illustrious predecessors and shows how he is related to other Sufis."[1]
Centuries ago, Arabia did not have schools for formal education. Students went to masters who taught them. Upon completion of their study, they received ijazah (permission) which acted as the certification of education. A graduate then acted as a master having his own students. This chain of masters was known as Silsilah. Somewhat analogous to the modern situation where degrees are only accepted from recognized universities.
The Chishtī Order (Persian: چشتی - Čištī) is a Sufi order within the mystic branches of Islam which was founded in Chisht, a small town near Herat, about 930 C.E. and continues to this day. The Chishti Order is known for its emphasis on love, tolerance, and openness.[1]
he order was founded by Abu Ishaq Shami (the Syrian) who belonged to Syria introduced the ideas Sufism in the town of Chisht, some 95 miles east of Herat in present-day western Afghanistan.[2] Before returning to Syria,[3] Shami initiated, trained and deputized the son of the local emir, Abu Ahmad Abdal (d. 966).[4] Under the leadership of Abu Ahmads descendants, the Chishtiya as they are also known, flourished as a regional mystical order.[5]
The most famous of the Chishti saints is Moinuddin Chishti (popularly known as Gharib Nawaz meaning 'Benefactor of the Poor') who settled in Ajmer, India. He oversaw the growth of the order in the 13th century as Islamic religious laws were canonized. He reportedly saw the Islamic prophet Muhammad in a dream and then set off on a journey of discovery.
Other famous saints of the Chishti Order are Qutbuddin Bakhtiar Kaki, Fariduddin Ganjshakar, Nizamuddin Auliya, Alauddin Ali Ahmed Sabir Kalyari, Mohammed Badesha Qadri, and Ashraf Jahangir Semnani.
The Chishti Order is famous for its emphasis on love, tolerance, and openness. The order traces its spiritual origin through various saints all the way to the Islamic caliph Ali and from him to the Islamic prophet Muhammad.
The Chishti saints had two hallmarks which differentiate them from other Sufi saints. The first was their ethical relations to the institutional powers. This meant voluntarily keeping a distance from the ruler or the government mechanism.[6] It didn't matter if the ruler was a patron or a disciple: he was always kept at bay since it was felt that mixing with the ruler will corrupt the soul by indulging it in worldly matters.
The second distinctive dimension was related to the religious practice of the Chishtis. It was aggressive rather than passive; a ceaseless search for the divine other. In this respect the Chishtis followed a particular ritual more zealously then any other brotherhood. This was the practice of sema, evoking the divine presence through song or listening to music.[7] The genius of the Chishti saints was that they accommodated the practice of sema with the full range of Muslim obligations.[8]
The Chishti Order can also be characterized by the following principles: * Obedience to the shaykh and/or pir * Renunciation of the material world * Distance from worldly powers * Supporting poors * Service to humanity * Respect for other devotional traditions * Dependence on the Creator and not the creation * Disapproval of showing off miraculous feats
The Chishti Order is now indigenous to Afghanistan and South Asia (mainly India, Pakistan and Bangladesh). It was the first of the four main Sufi Orders, namely Chishtia, Qadiria, Suhurawadia and Naqshbandia, to be established in this region. Moinuddin Chishti introduced the Chishti Order in India, sometime in the middle of the 12th century AD. He was eighth in the line of succession from the founder of the Chishti Order, Abu Ishq Shami.order is their fondness for devotional music.
The devotees of this order practise chilla i.e. they observe seclusion for forty days during which they refrain from talking beyond what is absolutely necessary, eat little and spend most of their time in prayers and meditation. Another characteristic of the followers of this order is their fondness for devotional music. They hold musical festivals, and enter into ecstasy while listening to singing.
Aulia's are the chosen friends of Allah. They are those devotee and sincere bondsman on the earth who remember Allah ceaselessly and spend their life seeing inner purification through endeavor, toil, abstinence and prayer. They are the one who cease to depend on the "creation" and give them selves unto the creator, seeking sustenance from sources unimaginable, attain nearness to the divine light through constant worship and service to humanity. Their journey is endless.
Each part of their body is completely rid of non-divine influence. Their heart become like a clean mirror reflecting back the reality of things. Their judgment does not err. Being giving the divine light, they see the things in their true perspective. They see every thing including Angles, Souls, Divine Thorns, the "Lohe-e-Mahfooze", the guarded tablet in the seventh Heaven containing records of all events distinct to take place from the beginning to the end of the universe.
Allah has said " The most value worshiper of my bondsman, seeking my nearness, is the one I have opposed on him; and my servant continues to draws me near Me through the work of supererogation, until I love him. And when I love him, I am his ears so that he hears Me, and his eyes so that he sees Me, and his feet so he walks by Me, I am his hand so that he do work by Me. When he raises his hand in the prayers,I grant his request, when he seeks refuge unto Me, I protect him"
"And your Rabb says: "Call on Me, I will answer your prayers. Surely those who are too arrogant to worship Me shall soon enter hell in humiliation." (Sura:40:60)
Your real protecting friends are Allah, His Rasool, and the fellow believers - the ones who establish Salah, pay Zakah and bow down humbly before Allah.
Whoever makes Allah, His Rasool and the fellow believers his protecting friends, must know that Allah's party will surely be victorious. (Sura Ma'ida: Verses 55,56)
This is a Hadith al Qudsi, Muhammad pbuh narrated that Allah said, "he who would keep rivalry/jealousy with Auliya of Allah, Allah will declare open war on him"

I would like to add something for the argument how come Chishti is known as Aulia. To identify who is real wali we have to have that kind of eye and ability to vision. During the time of Prophet Mohammed *saw* there were false Prophets available but Sahiaba identified Prophet Mohammed *saw* as real and true Prophet and followed him.

Aulia means : Friend. Allah (swt) mentioned the word Auwlia in 85 places in Quran . Surah Fateah Allah (Swt) Ahdinas Seeratal Mustaqeem and Anamta Alayhim the people who are on right path.. Now refer Surah Nisa Where the categorically mentioned the righteous - beloved people are defined Nabiyeen, Siddiquin, Shuhadah , Salahaleen - Awwliay Allah falls in Shuhadah or Salahaleen category. Most of the pious muslims fall in Zahidian or Abiedin. Black Magic is something different. Thanks Haamed

Noone beside ALLAH (swt) should be worshipped as per Islamic Tenets. We are asked by Allah (swt) to respect our parents that does not mean we pray/worship them. People respect elders, learned scholars, parents, leaders etc.. because of their stature & knowledge. r u crazy?? who called them Allah?? nauzubillah...a wali Allah is frnd of Allah n he has connection with Allah swt n Rasul (pbuh). he is alive. they communicate bt very few can understand it. certainly there r ppl who have da connection with supreme force n they get the proof. bt da way u r asking for proof, disbelievers also asked. nothing cud make them satisfied even dividing da moon. think deeply they didnt believe in da existence of Allah. coz they were nt convinced with da proof.

To enter the way of Sufism, the seeker begins by finding a teacher, as the connection to the teacher is considered necessary for the growth of the pupil. The teacher, to be genuine, must have received the authorization to teach (ijazah) of another Master of the Way, in an unbroken succession (silsilah) leading back to Sufism's origin with the Prophet Muhammad. It is the transmission of the divine light from the teacher's heart to the heart of the student.

Centuries ago, Arabia did not have schools for formal education. Students went to masters who taught them. Upon completion of their study, they received ijazah (permission) which acted as the certification of education. A graduate then acted as a master having his own students. This chain of masters was known as Silsilah. Somewhat analogous to the modern situation where degrees are only accepted from recognized universities.

The Chishti saints had two hallmarks which differentiate them from other Sufi saints. The first was their ethical relations to the institutional powers. This meant voluntarily keeping a distance from the ruler or the government mechanism.[6] It didn't matter if the ruler was a patron or a disciple: he was always kept at bay since it was felt that mixing with the ruler will corrupt the soul by indulging it in worldly matters.

The second distinctive dimension was related to the religious practice of the Chishtis. It was aggressive rather than passive; a ceaseless search for the divine other. In this respect the Chishtis followed a particular ritual more zealously then any other brotherhood. This was the practice of sema, evoking the divine presence through song or listening to music.[7] The genius of the Chishti saints was that they accommodated the practice of sema with the full range of Muslim obligations.[8]

The Chishti Order is now indigenous to Afghanistan and South Asia (mainly India, Pakistan and Bangladesh). It was the first of the four main Sufi Orders, namely Chishtia, Qadiria, Suhurawadia and Naqshbandia, to be established in this region. Moinuddin Chishti introduced the Chishti Order in India, sometime in the middle of the 12th century AD. Aulia's are the chosen friends of Allah. They are those devotee and sincere bondsman on the earth who remember Allah ceaselessly and spend their life seeing inner purification through endeavor, toil, abstinence and prayer. They are the one who cease to depend on the "creation" and give them selves unto the creator, seeking sustenance from sources unimaginable, attain nearness to the divine light through constant worship and service to humanity. Each part of their body is completely rid of non-divine influence. Their heart become like a clean mirror reflecting back the reality of things. Their judgment does not err. Being giving the divine light, they see the things in their true perspective. They see every thing including Angles, Souls, Divine Thorns, the "Lohe-e-Mahfooze", the guarded tablet in the seventh Heaven containing records of all events distinct to take place from the beginning to the end of the universe.

Whoever makes Allah, His Rasool and the fellow believers his protecting friends, must know that Allah's party will surely be victorious. (Sura Ma'ida: Verses 55,56)
