Thank you very much i never knew anything before this i want to ask i want to create a character to use in a game i wish to make in unity should i make the body parts separately or should i make a character in one file only im not sure how to animate whether or not i should use blender or unity if u could help with that too please
@SuperShez96 you can take either approach.. make a character all one mesh and use bones, or (simpler), build a character like an action figure or robot with separate arms/legs. I know that you can use animations from Blender in unity, but that's getting pretty advanced.
@cgboorman,iv seen about 10 videos and have a good idea abt blender so far.....well im doing a project on windows and doors in college....can u help me by telling how i shud change my axis to the hinge of the window to make it move inwards and outwards....shud i use mesh cube and edit for the same or some other method...plz reply asap!
@sayamarora17 You'll need to set the location or the origin/pivot-point of the mesh to be exactly where the hinge rotates. Take a look at my 11th video ('Joining and Linking') for this.. other than that, you can change the orientation of your gizmo in the 3D viewport window's header. By default it's changed to 'global', if you change it to 'Normal' your gizmo will better follow the rotation/location of your object, allowing you to rotate objects better with their alignment.
Your the best, nothing comes close to you when explaining...Hope you get rewarded for doing this. I have all of your 13 tut except nurmber 2, could you email to me lreyes50@satx.rr.com. I tried to find it in utube but some how it did not show up. Important question: how long will you have these tutorial up, is there a point where you will take them off? How can I keep them permanently?
You're a great educator and your videos have helped me a lot. I am noticing a problem that you might be able to help me with. When I'm box modeling I notice that some faces distort or are not uniform when I'm scaling out. Like at 3:10 of this video. Faces that mirror don't make the same (or mirrored) polygon. I don't notice it at first, but when I change my POV it seems something is missing. I must have something selected incorrectly? I am making sure my widget is in the middle. Any ideas?
@fonoflux1 It could be a matter of not selecting all 6 faces (on each side of the cube), OR it could be that you've [accidentally] changed the pivot point for rotation/scaling/transformation --> notice how when I scale the middle faces out that they all move from the *median point* of all the selected faces? Makes sure your pivot point is set to 'median point' on the menu in the header [at the bottom of the 3d view window.].. it's a button that looks like two overlapping circles.
@cgboorman first off: awesome videos - thank you so much for this!
Second off: I'm having the same problem as fonoflux1. I am certain that i have selected all 6 faces and my pivot point is set to "median port". Is there any thing else that could cause this problem? @fonoflux1 - did you find a solution?
Nice tutorial. Thank you very much. You not only have the knowledge of blender, but you you also have the ability or talent to teach, both together make great talents.
U are really awesome with your sculpting-powers kinda deal. I wish i was that good. I also have to ask, are you like a professional at a collage or something, or did u just learn this stuff on your own?
@sousageyum I have a fine arts degree in New Media, and I'm currently a highschool IT student-teacher, but have been teaching animation to elementary and middle school-aged children for a few years. Thanks :)
@cgboorman Glad you've been making these videos to Youtube then :D
If these didn't exist (nor Blender of course), I would've had to either travel to the other side of my country or study 3.5 -> 7 years just to get to the basics. You're saving me a lifetime!
HELP! ive been following your tutorial (its awesome thank you) but i cant select the edge that i want to selected. at the moment in order to learn blender, im basically copying what your doing in the video, im up to the part were you making the nose round, but when i try to select the edges on the nose, it selects edges from the back of the head, side, top, bottom... please help cause its really annoying, do you know why that is happening, or how to easily select an edge bettter?
@brendanRawrs you need to press the 'limit selection to visible' button, which is right next to the vertex/edge/face select mode buttons in the 3D viewport header - it's a small button right in that same row when you're in edit mode only. When you have it pressed in it's easy to mistakingly select edges on the back of the object you're looking at. The button toggles this on/off.
@Are431 All in good time I'll make a video (but now that you've suggested it I'll make a video sooner).. you'll need to use 'nodes' in Blender to add a background image when you render. If you wand a background just in the 3D viewport, press 'n' to get your properties panel in your 3d viewport, then scroll down to find the 'Background Images' section. check the box, then browse for your background image. This won't render though.
you did the mouth with scale mode?
