I love cow dogs, we have a wonderful rescue ACD named Bishop (7 y.o.) and he is my best buddy in the whole world...he'll go hiking for hours and never runs out of energy, plus he's so darn smart! Only problem is he is NOT very social with other dogs and nothing we have tried has helped?
Haha awesome. Happy to see people who take the responsibility of a dog seriously. ACD's (like any herding/working breed dog) need to burn off LOTS of energy every day, it's nice to see videos of people who understand that.
disabledanimal has adoptions, help and the ability to list disabled animals - it's for those who have a soft spot in their hearts for these precious ones that are blind, deaf, paralyzed, etc. :)
@kallo182 they actually are the same breed, there is just many names for the ACD (red heeler, blue heeler, Queensland heeler etc) It really depends on where you come from, and what name you know the breed (proper name: Australian Cattle Dog) best by. :)
@kallo182 There is really no difference, it's just the colouring. A blue heeler, red heeler and queensland are all cattle dogs, it's just... blue heeler's are the grey-ish ones and red heelers are the orange-ish ones.
This is brilliant! :) people need to understand that ACD's were bred to herd cattle over hundreds of miles in the huge heat of the aussie ranches so this is nothing for him. I don't have one but I want one when I'm older :)
This dog looks like she's having a great time. If this dog had the slightest reluctance about being on that treadmill, she would have jumped off sooner.
Hi - What a great video! This breed never ceases to amaze me! LOL. I used to think they loved eating more than anything else but as this video shows, they love to 'excercise' more than anything (and all you ACDers know what I mean!
What a pretty cattle dog. My two are sisters. And they love to come horseback riding with me. I have a long-legged quarter horse who can run like the wind, and she gives them a workout! This is a great idea. I'm going to introduce them to my treadmill and see if they like it. CptJimEd is correct -- a good cattle dog is a tired cattle dog!
That's awesome! I love how he adjusts his pace as the treadmill speeds up. What a clever boy! My own ACD is now 12 and he'll still play frisbee all day long if there's someone willing to throw it.
I have a feamle that is 12 and loves the frisbee and ball too, a 6 yr old male that won't get near the treadmill, but can't keep SeBu off it! He now does 6mph for 20 mins 2x a day for me, and my husband runs him when he is home. Thanks for the comment Bill! Cindy
They are a great dog, but they are a working dog so you have to exercise them or they are a pain in the ass. Here in Australia, the Stockman(cowboys) run them all day from sun up to sun down and the dogs love it!
She needs obedience training and more exercise. Probably more mental stimulation too. ACDs are a handful and they are not easy at all. They get bored very easily. A bored Cattle Dog is a freaking NIGHTMARE!!
Yea You really have to step up and take leadership. They GREATLY appreciate it! Once you are the leader you will see that they are amazing dogs and are willing to do anything to please you. check out my heeler videos..I have a blue and a red
It's easier when you have four legs.

"a good cattle dog...is a tired cattle dog" good news is in another generation the deaf gene should be about gone...at least from ethical breeders

My blue heeler used to run with me when I rode my bike - I could take a 15 mile bike ride, and she would be rarin' for more!
