Actually I loved 'Cool S. Cat' - best thing in the show.
However: Which episode did Pinocchio FLY in? I mean -- after announcing AT LEAST once per episode that he has that ability - why doesn't he use it? What happened, did he just forget he had this ability? - In the intro, it seems more like levitation, but still - wouldn't that have helped him and the insect escape from a few tight spots??
How well I remember when I first saw this series during the mid-1960s.I realized there were many different versions of Pinocchio-just as i realized that Rankin-Bass used the basic story as a foundation...but then went their own ways in their own directions with many of their own characters.(Gepetto,Pinocchio, the cricket, the fox and the cat seemed to be the only ones they loosely based on characters from the original story.)
I was just teasing my son about telling a lie and made the motion of my nose growing and did the WOOOP WOOOP WOOOP sound it made. I was surprised to find this on the first try. I'd love to see those old Oz cartoons, too. Anyone know it they are available?
Big Al (Elwood Jones) also had Ranch Party along with Cartoon Capers. Big Al was the most watched cartoon program in the '60s in Southern Ontario, outdrawing the competition like Rocketship 7, and Commander Tom from Channel 7 Buffalo and Capn' Andy
I remember watching this on Saturday morning. There were three cartoons on this particular show I watched, this one, The wonderful land of oz and Pick a Letter. I loved them all, but this one was my favorite. Bless ya for sharing. Now, it's not a memory anymore. I can relive it when I feel nostalgic. Thanx again.
I remember being about 6 years old and a real fan of this. After hockey practice on Saturday morning, I'd go home and get some cereal and right in front of the TV to watch this and The Land of OZ, and The Hilarious House of Frightenstien.
What memories!! I remember watching this with the World of Oz as reruns in the mid to late 70's. I can't believe that once the intro music went on I was singing along!!!
Bless you for sharing, Robby4000! I actually had vague memories of watching this when I was about 4. I recalled that it was animated in a way unlike Hanna -Barbera, but maybe more like "Davey and Goliath"(?) Having gone to Art college, more than the memories this brings, I appreciate the all-around CREATIVENESS of this series so much more now!
This is the first anime series commissioned by an American market! (The majority of Rankin/Bass' animation is from Japan.) Along with KING KONG, the first 2D animated show made in Japan for the US.
Wow, I would have thought this was long forgotten about. I can't believe I decided to look this up and found it.

That's Alex Trebek of Jeopardy fame who does the introduction to this.

I think it was actually a voice artist named Bernard Cowan, who worked in Canada at this time.

Anyone remember watching these at noon each day on BIG AL'S CARTOON CAPERS (CKCO-TV, Channel 13, Kitchener)?
toonguy85 3 years ago
Absolutely. I was born in 1961 and watched it while I lived in London, ON from 1964 to 1967. Cartoon Capers was great.
Have you checked out Dodo the Kid from Outer Space on YouTube for more memories from then?

Thanks! I certainly have watched the Dodo Kid From Outer Space and Wizard Of Oz cartoons on You Tube, which were played daily on Cartoon Capers!
