Even if you DO fight the plant, you don't have to wait for him to expose his weakness by lowering his vines. If you richocet an egg from a wall an it skims across the water, it'll go THROUGH the vine and hit him

Actually, it's not really a glitch, as much as a secret for those who either fool around, or think about the fact that it never grows till you get close. Otherwise, either you would start walking into the normal scene right there, or they would simply make the eggs break or deflect.
