  • i have this knife and i was thinking yesterday i wonder if nutn would use something like this well i guess we would

  • thank you!

  • Great video review since I just bought the sl2 and the sl3 yesterday at rei and I'm trying to decide which to keep? I like the longer firesteel or the sl2 but I like the light on the sl3 so I'm hoping I can combine the two favorite parts into one and still have room for an extra set of batteries. Are the knives made in japan better than the ones being shipped from china or visa//versa?? Thanx...Laurie

  • Some things I'd like to add to this review:

For the earlier knives in this line they got very sloppy if you used it for say carving a pipe which I did and it was a bitch to tighten back up but the later version I got my hands on had steel liners and that knife is very tight.

Also I'd like to point out that the knife is very comfortable in your hand for extended use even though you wouldn't think so at first glance.

  • Nice review, thanks mate. I want one!

  • SOG now owns ToolLogic.

  • i have the sl3 i LOVE it

  • if this was a triple a battery flashlight and maybe like a spyderco blade then it would be perfect

  • Rip rather than tear lolz 3.38.

  • u can take the entire back off (compartment) to make it lighter with the big screw on the left side.

  • for future reference call it a firesteel :P

flint and steel is a totally differnt thing

  • i collect hokey knives and i never heard of that so thanks for this i should get that

  • im suprised you have a knife less than a hundered bucks

  • i luv ur reviews!

  • I'm not as fond of these knives. My review wasn't so favourable.

  • Does anyone know if the insert for the flashlight and flint on the pro will fit in a SL3

  • THESE KNIVES

  • awesome

  • now on the back of the sl3 there is a place that they made to strike the flint on it is the thing that looks like an upside down u.

  • You must like knives...i know who's selling two good :a 1906 original springfield armory bayonet and a western [1950;s]bowie knife? }

  • how many folds?

  • Does it come with the lanyard??

Love the reveiws man keep up the good work

  • why would you EVER remove a flashlight in replace of minus half an ounce of weight??

  • @joeboby9 Exactly there is no good reason to remove that for just around half an ounce.

  • I find the serrated edge really annoying and inhibiting. Its supposed to be a fire starting knife yet the serrated edge ,akes it hard to shave wood into kindling to light

  • i'm makin a vid on knives. Any special kinds anyone want to see? Butterfly firefly? Cleaver? Double bladed? whatever just throw it out there.

  • @CriKKKeycrocodile would like to see some tactical folders.

  • they have a PE at i believe countycom some one said in a video if there not there google the PE version

  • Also looking forward to buy some of these...

    Great.

    Thanks again

  • I have owned both. I currently own a bigger version where it's a bigger blade, a flashlight and the fire steel. It's cool but before this one I had the one that he shows in this vid of just the firesteel version. I prefer the firesteel one bc the flashlight on my current knife turns o on it's own all the time and essentially wasting batteries. I might use it as an EDC item and get another small one that's strictly for fire. The flashlight is also best for close up tasks.

  • i have the tool logic sl knife with the flint

  • I bought one of these based on Nutnfancys' review. Had it over a year, with my EDC system. Love it. I purchased the new blade design, and the light has a fire steel mounted to the back of it. I am never without this little jewel. Thanks Nutnfancy.

  • I have to say, using the whistle bit, I know i wouldn't want to put a knife in my mouth!

  • By the way, you forgot to mention that the little triangular cut-out on a very beginning of the "fire"-blade is to be used on flint so that you don't abuse the cutting part of the knife.

  • See I definitely do think this knife is hokey. Poor blade steel, no grip, low powered light, weak lock, no liners and the handle material looks like it'll break if I step on it or something. For the same money you could probably pick up a Tenacious and a wee Fenix light.

  • There's a small notch on the blade made for the flint.

  • cutlery lover has a straigt blade one

  • There is a notch at the base of the blade that is used to strike the flint so you don't have to ruin the edge on your knife. Cutlerylover has a video showing that for the same knife

  • What is the best survival knife?

  • 9mm my friend =)

  • imo 454 casull, but your point is well taken

  • my opinion:

fixed: kabar usmc full size straight edge

folding: crkt drifter or gerber evo.

  • the pro series are 420j2 steel

  • The "V" groove on the blade of the fire model is where you strike the steel.

  • how good are gerber knives?

  • stfu nutnfancy u talk to god damn much.

  • Actually, I owe Nutn an apology for being so critical. I just did some research and discovered that there aren't just an LED and Fire combo, but also a series for each one. Apparently, there are those out there where they're straight edged w/o no thumb groove/scraper like mine but instead have a notch on the bottom of the blade to scrape the firesteel against. Check out county comm on youtube and the internet - according to Cutlery Lover you can get them there. Again, apologies to NF.

  • .....that he wished the knife was made with something that would allow you to scrape sparks off the blade and therefore not have to damage the blade. Either he doesn't know this blade too well or he hasn't paid attention bc this knife has a groove that you could use as a thumb groove as well that was SPECIFICALLY created to scrape along the firesteel and create BIG sparks. The package clearly states that. It just happens to also make for a great thumb groove. Great item. Worth buying.

  • I have the flint and steel knife....it's a great little handy multi-tool. So much so that it is now my personal EDC and I carry it on me everyday. I wear it to work and outside of work and hardly ever know it's there. I feel very secure knowing that I have a knife, way to make fire (in my part of town thats important!) and a whistle if needs be...I work for the gov't so if my place got bombed like 9/11 a whistle is very necessary. My only complaint w/ this review is he said....

  • i have one of those

  • if you take that big screw out on the top of the knife the "piggie-back" tool will all come off and make the knife less of a odd shape of you don't want to carry it. :)

  • wel put to gether

  • WELL IT COULD HELP

  • You dont really need a flashlight on an EDC knife...

  • The fire version should have a small notch near the choil for the fire steel so you dont have to dull your edge to get a spark.

  • you can get it in a plane edge cutlerylover has a video on it

  • is it a good blade

  • My Brother got me a Tool Logic SL2 for xmas, Id never heard of these folks before, my bro read some reviews on t'interweb and thought "that'll make a nice gift"! Well, at first I wasn't too sure about it but once i held it and had a lil play around I found myself thinking that this lil tool will come in well handy as part of my Hiking/camping daysack. The blade is literally Razor sharp and the additional torch, firesteel and whistle combo will prove to be a great space saving idea. 5 star item.

  • I agree with you the SL2 is verey useful

  • a boyscout survival knife

  • could call it a camping knife

  • Just to let you know. The compartment that holds the extra tool, you mentioned you could tighten the hold with that screw. You can actually take it completely off if im not mistaken.

Just thought i would point that out, cause you seem to have missed that, but im pretty sure that whole back plastic peice can come off

  • im not sure if you know but that notch toward the backof the blade is to scrape the steel so you dont dull your blade

  • lol, i was just about to post the exact same coment...

  • oh sorry lol =/

  • u can take the pigy back compartment off with that big screw on it

  • Fantastic video and fantastics knife's.

    Thanks for share this.

  • Where did you buy your knife?

  • FYI. Saw them at REI yesterday. Check their site.

  • on the fire model, ther is a notch on the blade right next to the pivet area to strike the firesteel, and on both versions, the is a screw on the front, upper part of the handel that you cane rmove to take off the entire "backpack" tool holder from the handel.

  • Nutnfancy, Watch Cutlerylovers video on the toolLogic SL fire/knife/steel. You will find out things you didnt know about that knife.

    -Rich

  • oh and yup....Cutlerylover has a nice review of this knife, good call. With more info....like how that back can come off :)

  • I was looking at these awhile back and regarded them as crappy. Thanks for the review! I gotta get one, now.

  • Steel in this is 420 j2, which is utter crap stainkess spring steel, yet these knives are ace! I have the aforementioned 'credit card' and it's fearsome. Think they must be tempered at a lower temperature necause edge is harder than most 420 j2 (RC 53-55)

  • Where did you buy your knife?

  • My friend, this is one of the best produced and informative product videos I have ever seen. Well done. BTW, the blade is notched towards the back for scraping that fire steel. I just ordered the pro. Thanks again for a great video.

  • Great knife. Im very happy with it. I got my SL fire steel from E-Bay at a selling prize of £23.99

Its marked as Tool Logic China

  • I got one.. the SL1 mini or something.. Its got a flash light and its light and good knife!

  • hey do you know where this the firesteel knife is made, i heard that the majority of their knives are made in japan but they are expanding to china

  • Mine are marked Seki, Japan. Great quality, especially for the price.

  • according to their site the steel is a 420J2 its supposed to be a good balance between edge holding and rust resistance.

  • nice

  • Hye great video, one comment though for the version with the steel I think thats why they added that V shaped cutout by the ricasso for you to strike your firesteel with it without dulling your blade, check it otu and let me know if that works, I don't own one to try for myself...

  • Yes I forgot to mention that and it does work great.

  • Yeah I agree about the serrations. The plain edge is preferable. Otherwise I'm always suspect about these multi tools. I rather carry a bit more weight and have each tool do one job.
