Actually they did mention it after this scene, that the cops used for the 2.0s had problems, emotional, stress, personal, psychological stuff not suitable to the robocop program, whereas Murphy despite his own personal issues, it was his "devotion to duty" service, protecting, etc that kept him better off mentally than the 2.0s, who in many ways were worse than the Robo Cain, because Robo Cain didn't go on a killing rampage immediately, not until ordered.

We used to staffs or old poolsticks as Smart Guns from Aliensw, or planks of wood for miniguns, etc. I even had some metal ended pool sticks, one of which was cobalt blue I broke off to use as my lightsaber when we played Star Wars.
It's been a while since I saw this movie. Did they ever approach the issue of *why* Murphy came out of the other side alright, as opposed to the 2.0s? Or did they just gloss over it?
I think an amount of pain he may have felt, psychological trauma, maybe self realization and finding out that he was human before and was no longer human but an abomination (they made sure to erase the first Robocop's memory) or all 3 combined to convince them that they would prefer to die as soon as they were given a chance to move rather than live as metal freaks.

The programing is off or wrong and therefore the original person's mind becomes aware and knows what it is and they go crazy. This is similar to Marvel Comic's Super Soldier Program. The very first experiment, sometimes referred to as "Weapon 1", was most successful because it was Capt. America. Wolverine was "Weapon X", interrelated to the SS Program, and was not.

I always thought that Robocop was more the story of Johnson. In Robocop, he was the naive executive who thought he could stay above the fray and not wallow in the corruption. In Robocop 2, he was still that naive executive who still fought all the BS but in the end he succumbed to it. In Robocop 3, he had completely fallen to the Dark Side.

@rainxxxx Drugs affect the brain by screwing with the pleasure centers. All the Robocops, including Murphy, had either parts or the entirety of their brains implanted into the mechanical bodies. All they had to do with Cain was install a system that delivered Nuke to his implanted brain. Because he was addicted, he'd do anything to get his fix.
@rainxxxx Addiction happens when the brain craves a substance (nicotine, cocaine, heroin, etc.) because it has gotten so used to the effects of that substance (hormone rush which causes pleasure) and it has in a way rewired how the brain functions. In Cain's case his body is gone but the brain is still functioning as if it were still attached to his body, experiencing the pain of withdrawal.

The release of hormones and stimulation of the pleasure centers of the brain involved with sex are naturally induced and not caused by a continual use of a foreign chemical that has the added effect of screwing with your brain chemistry. Castrating someone would just eliminate the hormones that stimulate those particular pleasure centers.

@KingofSkullkid452 You've got to realize that the "Robocop" universe is one where gross stupidity and incompetence are the rule in high places, and it's only among the rank-and-file police and ordinary citizens that you'll find any common sense. It is a parody of the political/corporate idiocy we see so often in the real world. (As such, in the "Robocop" world one would EXPECT to see things like live ammo being given to an insane experimental cyborg, vats of toxic waste left unattended, ect.)

They threw in a lot of dark humor to offset the violence. It is tradition nowadays for people to edit a movie just enough to get a PG-13 down from an R. I hear the original cut was so graphic that they had to edit out just enough to get an R down from an NC-17 (or X back then.)
