  • @Unstung Wow, you don't think it's a coincidence ...

  • got so many crazy ass stories about this moment in time. there's a reason for the D84D

  • 5150 and Montrose (the first album) were awesome. Otherwise, I'm not exactly Sam's biggest fan. :)

  • Van Halen's new album, officially called A Different Kind of Truth, is coming out this year.

  • Reminds me of shoulder tapping for beers and sneaking into these chicks back yard for a little fun summer of 87 ( i was 15 ) . Im really happy for Van Halen right now with Dave and Wolf but the Sammy era was the soundtrack of my summers back then....them and the Scorps ; )Good memories...Hard to not get choked up thinking about it. Enjoy your youth kids !

  • this song proves hagar era was better than lee roth

  • hey call me sometime 905 926 5150

  • And I want to go back in time!!!!....

  • isnt PV 5150 the amp eddie uses?

  • @ACLeftyGuitar Eddie used Peavey from 1992 to 2004. He now has his own EVH line through Fender that makes the 5150 III Amp. When Eddie left Peavey the company changed the model number from 5150 to 6505.

  • @mike584 yea, i was if it relates to the song name? didnt 65'05' bit came from when he left in 2005 which gave the name 65'05'

  • @ACLeftyGuitar 5150 is also the police code (in California, at least) for an escaped psychiatric patient.

  • I'll meet you halfway.

  • fuck cabo wabo... THIS IS THE BEST SONG IN THE HAGAR ERA

  • This entire album is a perfect musical expression of what Summer time feels like. On the coldest darkest day in Winter, you can put this album on and feel like you're driving down the highway in a convertible on a bright sunny day in July on your way to the beach.

  • Is it me or is that bodybuilder lou ferigno>?

  • @PatriotReport The 5150 Studio

  • Neat song!!!

  • Van Halens studio address

  • Not bad.... Sammy Hagar ain't that bad. huh.

  • "5150" is what the cops in CA use to lock someone up who is basically crazy... or in cop talk "due to a mental disturbance, they are a danger to themselves or others." It's turned into street talk for breaking out crazy...

  • @PatriotReport 5150 is a police term used to describe and insane person on the loose i believe

  • @PatriotReport 5150 is the polics code for crazy

  • EVH has some pretty hard stuff out there. But this one surpasses em all what a great song all around

  • one of there best albums

  • How can anyone complain ?

    5:24

It will never be the same but how could it be ?

  • hagar was just okay. thats about it.

  • thumbs up if you listening this in 5150

  • Is that lou ferrigno holding up the huge VH ball

  • I hated this when it was released. How many years later, its probaly the best Sammy tune I think. IS it true DLR nailed Alex `s wife?thats thr real reason they split?????

  • songa makesa mea wanna jumpa outta da airaplanea!!!!

  • DLR was cool, but he never had the talent Sammy had. When Dave was the frontman, he mainly just sang. With Sammy on board, additional guitar was added, making the band more versatile.

  • One of the few VH songs that gets no respect..It's a great song.

  • @PatriotReport its a police code for a crazy out of control person possibly on drugs

  • spectacular solo!!! EVH is the father of shred.

  • @PatriotReport 5150 is police code for someone who is out of their mind, and insane

  • 5:31 - Really? 1st album after a much publicized break up with DLR and they let this Sammy f up make the album? I'm not going to get into the DLR vs. Sammy debate. Both eras are great (that rhymes) but you never heard this kind of awful singing from DLR, or from any other Sammy song. What gives?

  • @canalbikeguy Seems a bulk of people prefer sammy to roth, i like both... roth was a little more fun whilst sammy was what got the band into the number 1 spots you cant denie that fact, although yes most hardcore fans i bet like yourself prefer the older harder roth stuff.

  • @PatriotReport yeah it means comitment

  • 6 people can go f*** themselves

  • @PatriotReport thts my mw2 clan butt its police code for crazy

  • I can tell you exactly what's wrong with this song; It starts out 70's/early 80's style, with a cool little jam; By the time the bass kicks in, it's buried so far in the mix that you can't hear it and it doesn't help anything. By the time the vocals start, it's descended into typical 80's butt rock that any shit band could have done. The problem with Van Halen post-1984 wasn't Dave Vs. Sammy; It was that they stopped writing rock and roll songs, and started writing Pepsi commercials.

  • This is an awesome song!!

  • @Unstung noob

  • My two cents: Consider this - When Roth left Van Halen, maybe he tried to get 51% of the Van Halen "entity/business" in their legal procedings; a controlling percentage. He couldn't just accept 50/50 - 50% to the Van Halen's and 50% to Roth. As always with the self-centered Roth, he wanted that "one more" percentage and the Van Halen's wanted to to be amicable and split things evenly. Listen to the lyrics. Is this the true meaning of 5150? What do you think?

  • @chrisbawiec wouldnt that make 101% though, thus being impossible?

  • @tommyboy260 - This goes without saying. An agreement of 50% to 51% is impossible; Van Halen wouldn't accept 49/51 and Roth wouldn't accept 50/50. Thus the stalemate. The title is a poetic indication of an impossible situation that these guys were in.

  • @chrisbawiec that's what lyrics really meant to say

  • 5150 are the studios that eddie built on his house when he lived with valleris bertanellie when dlr left actually read some bios at the library

  • @PatriotReport 5150 refers to the police code for a criminaly crazy person.

  • @PatriotReport 5150 actually is the california code for crazy

  • I'm a Roth fan and I admit I always rag on Hagar's sappy love songs, but there is something special about this song. Its one of their best little hidden gems.

  • This is a really good song and I've heard it several times over the years, but never quite realized how sloppy the drum fills are...That's probably because I've never really focused on the drums in a VH song.

  • I love Van Halen not Van Hagar but there are a few exceptions. Lol

  • Hands down the best tune of the Van Hagar era...Ed tears this up.

That being said, NOTHING VH did w Sam was ever as good as the Roth VH era!!!

    Roth VH RULES!!!!

  • dave is ten times better becasue he is a boss. sammy is cool and all, but he is sooooooooo boring. dave is the party of the concerts and everything else. even though sammy better at singing, dave is just better at concerts and that counts

  • i may be only 16 but i still wanna be able to play like him one day

  • Please -- Roth Rules - Sammy Hagar is ok , mean a headboards and leather, but Roth got 'tude !!!! Hager whines too much.

  • the intro on guitar is really hard!!

  • @vmartin96 i disagree

  • Van Halen were / are awesome with both singers. Both did some amazing songs, this being one of them. Long live the music of Van Halen!!!!

  • This song makes me want to go for an awesome long bike ride with some friends!

  • i look at it like this sammy hagar was good for ballad like stuff and roth was good for edgey songs! In the end if vh still had roth during the sammy years i bet they would have turned out like they did! Van halen is great with both singers! Sammy just brought a new and modern twist to them!

  • VAN HALEN---''5150''

  • dubstep is awesome and so is this... enjoy the music :D

  • @L1Fe0nMarS GTFO

  • this is better than jump!

  • Bad drumming.

  • @MIKEANDKT Bad comment.

  • This song is absolutely brilliant.

  • van halen not van hagar signed joe dirt'e

  • song i had my first kiss to when i was ingrade 10 gd times

  • personaly i like both Roth and Hagar

  • this song has nothing to do with a 5150

  • Man Sammy Hagar sucks all he sings is love songs like a fag. Roth was a rock and roller through and through. All he sang about was fucking, hot women, and the bad ass spirit of rock and roll.

  • @killtrositykill I would agree but you can't blame sammy too much. This is the stuff Eddie wanted to do. Roth is cooler and better and everything but Eddie had complete control.

  • @killtrositykill Yeah, 'cause even (heterosexual) Love is "for fags", huh? You are just a trying-too-hard-to-be-"bad" Asshole, plain and simple. Someday you'll have no choice but to finally Mature!

  • @TruthAbsorbtionist ummmm i am mature thats why i think singing about holding hands is for ppl like hanna montana. rock and roll is supposed to be bad-ass. if you dont like that then buy a justin bieber cd. queer.

  • @killtrositykill No, that's COMPLETELY fucking immature.

Rock and roll is not a defined thing, it's not something you can sum up.

It aint just a genre of music, or a lifestyle, or a belief, or an idea....

    It's like a paradigm.

You think holding hands is for a childrens pop star? How does that make sense?

Have fun never having a girlfriend or wife, since you're obviously too macho to hold her hand.

You probably wouldn't kiss her either, because of cooties, right? Mr. Mature?

  • @4cellar2door0 EXACTLY. Right On, BRO.

  • @killtrositykill Okay, gaybob, sure. I'm not into Bieber or Montana, so, no thanks, sorry.. Think I'll stick to my usual buyin' of Megadeth and Symphony X (among many other good bands') albums.

  • @TruthAbsorbtionist lolz i didn't comment on this video my brother did XD so stop sending me messages i dont even like rock that much XD

  • @killtrositykill Sure lol, its even more pathetic that you are blaming your brother now.

  • @Dennizzz119 kk sure idk who the fuck you are now stop sending me messages my brother is the gay rock liker and especially the fagget van halen liker why dont you listen to real music like dubstep or hardstyle and then go fuck off? i dont care just simply go fuck yourself ;)

  • @killtrositykill Dupstep...real music? FUCK THAT.

  • @killtrositykill Brr Shh

  • @killtrositykill die you fuckin heretic!

  • @killtrositykill Clearly your brother is the smart one then.... How is dubshit real music?

  • @killtrositykill i hope you die

  • @killtrositykill people who make dubstep are probably 40 year old virgins with ausburgurs disease making shit on the computer...take a guitar to anyone of those "singers/song writers" and they wont even be able to hold it right

  • I'd say the 5150 album is by far my favorite Van Halen Album. Reason being because it seemed like there was a lot more variety and freedom for the band to do what ever they wanted. Hagar sure is a goof ball!

  • sammy hagar also sang standing on top of the world too right ?

  • Hey, why do people have to hate either singer?

The Roth VH stuff was awesome and classic.

The 4 albums that Hager did with VH also have GREAT music on them.

Take your blinders off. Appreciate ALL music.

The real shame is that VH hasn't put out any new music in a LONG time. Eddie is just too good to not be putting out albums regularly. Hopefully the rumors of VH finishing a new album with Roth are true. Would love to hear new VH music. Can't wait.

  • If you're talking first 4 albums - Dave was the more bad-ass singer. You can't deny it - he epitomized what Rock & Roll meant for that time. Dave was half the reason they got famous.

I am CONVINCED if Sammy were to have been the first singer, Eddie would not have been inspired as much as he was, to create such incredibly hard-rockin' and dynamic tunes those first 4 albums, as he was with Dave. Without Dave - VH would not be who they are today - LEGENDS.

The original 4 guys - the BEST lineup

  • @pizzacrime I disagree with your very last statement. I was in my early teens when Van Halen hit it big. Roth's tunes are very good, but I would much rather listen to the Hagar era. The music sets a better mood- especially songs like 5150, Runaround, Best of Both Worlds, etc. Sammy helped set the bar higher and the music became much more energetic. Then again it's all preference in the end.....

  • @jsbraatz1I totally agree with you about how VH were performing better when Sammy came on. They DID get more energetic - Sammy was like that even before he cam to VH.They WERE playing better live, I know, because I was at the famous "Live Without a Net" show in New Haven, CT - filmed by HBO, and as seen here on Youtube too. It very well could be the best concert I have seen in my life. BUT...............

Feeling wise, Dave's style, and Eddie's songwriting of that period just grabs me more.

  • @jsbraatz1 Yeah, It IS all preference in the end. Extremely great arguments could be made for both singers, they both brought something seriously special to the band, and actually shaped the way they sounded, EVEN THOUGH Eddie was a guitar god and could write his own stuff. Both Dave and Sammy gave Eddie great melodies to frame his guitar wizardry around. Both really had huge input, both had huge fan followings.

So it really is a preference thing. I guess I just like Dave's style better.

  • Easily the best Sammy era VH tune.

  • @godlike51 EASILY

  • @godlike51 Oh yeah - this is Eddie's masterpiece

  • This Is Easily The Best Song In The Fucking World.

  • I'm not sure if this reminds me more of my ex wife and and I or Canada/USA relations?Lol!

  • man those 4 pinched whammy crashes at 3:53 are insane.

  • Van Halen's sound changed markedly from 1984 to 5150. There was some good Van Hagar music, no doubt, but I prefer the more raw, hard-rockin' sounds of the first four albums, especially Van Halen I and Fair Warning.

  • this was a great era for Van Halen, when the songs all had meaning, not just; "Let's have sex"

  • @Tommyl21 Well put. I completely agree with you. Van Halen was a better band with Hagar.

  • @poijof mily cyrus original?!

  • Best band in the world :)

  • @poijof Funny joke.

  • @ poijof--- Sorry to burst your bubble, but this song was probably written before Miley Cyrus or the Jonas Bros. were even born.

  • 5150 tatted on the arm!

  • woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

  • I'M 5150 AND IT SUCK'S BUT AT LEAST I KNOW O O WELL LOL

  • Damn, Van Halen was fucking awesome, Eddie is pretty much the reason I play guitar.

  • I like this album better than 1984. 1984 is played out way too much. Sammy, in my opinion, is a better rock singer. Sammy's voice is made solely for rock. David has that blues tone in his voice that's great. They are both great. The two best Van Halen albums are Van Halen I and 5150 pure and simple.

  • @GuitarArmy95 this album isnt even rock compared to old van halen albums including 1984

  • ok i'm not saying that hagar has a bad voice but David FTW! he really can't beat David's voice!

  • Easiest way to summarize 35 years of Van Halen:

David Lee Roth = THE ULTIMATE MOTHERFUCKIN' BAD ASS

Sammy Hagar = A RETARDED CHIMP WITH POODLE HAIR

  • @Hunkola Haha nice one

  • Van Hagar ALL DAYGAR!

  • Still one of the best songs by anybody. Can't ever hear this song too many times.

  • oh new album with roth on vocals

  • @waterburyjoe NOOOOO, this is HAGAR.

You are obviously not a Van Halen fan.

Their voices are so fucking different it's not even funny.

They cant even sing the same songs.

Sammy can't sing Dave's tunes very well, and vice versa, but they each are THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS (sorry I had to make a joke) when they sing stuff that fits them.

I am one of the rare few who love both Roth and Sammy.

I VERY MUCH prefer Hagar though.

He is simply a better singer.

    Roth is a better squealer/screecher.

  • @4cellar2door0 im a huge vh fan grew up with dave in vh, i love sammy when he was in the band to, ur right their voices are real different, great in their own way. they both took vh to great heights and ur right dave and sammy cant sing each others stuff. they were both great in vh

  • @4cellar2door0 but roth is the better entertainer and will be long remembered after sammy fades..

  • @zircle1 yes, but he will be remembered as an entertainer not as a musician like sammy.

  • @80sRockIsKing i doubt it..who do you think actually created the vocal melodies for songs like runnin with the devil and all the classics from 1984...sammies songs are allready fading but the old van halen is going strong...sorry dude but the man is always the man lol

  • @zircle1 yes the man is the man and i love alot of the old VH songs, but i still say that sammy is a better musician.

  • @4cellar2door0 Like you, I like'em both. The 5150 album was something that I really enjoyed back in the day and to this day; it was so different than anything VH had done before but was still sooo damn good.

  • @4cellar2door0 I dis agree.i like both soo much that i cant really decide who is beter. each is better at certain things than the other, which makes them equally great.

  • @4cellar2door0 i disagree. while both were better than the other at somethinggs, that is what made them both equally great. while roth was a showman/entertainer and hagar was a musician, both brought different styles to vh. that is what made them great regardless.

  • @4cellar2door0 totally agree!

  • @4cellar2door0 AMEN!

  • @4cellar2door0 you're wrong, you're not one of a few... many many people love they both too, including myself. And i agree with you, Sammy made the best part of V.H.

  • @4cellar2door0

I like both guys, too, but prefer Sammy because of the actual songs. they are happier, more positive, upbeat, more inspirational, they rise higher. Roth was kinda typical in dirty dog type behavior.

Enjoy the VH band though. Amazing that they had 2 great singers during the band's tenure. Mind blowing to think about. 2 great guys tough. Both successful apart from one another and the band. pretty cool

  • @4cellar2door0 I just like Eddie's guitar playing better in the Roth Era. Other than that, I agree 100%.

  • @4cellar2door0 I just like Eddie's guitar playing better in the Roth Era. Other than that, I agree 100%. Also, have you heard Hagar sing some of Roth's songs? He's actually pretty good.

  • @PowerMetalEuphonist Yeah I have, I even mentioned that I had in my comment, but I don't like when he sings Dave's songs.

I agree much of the guitar work was better during the Roth era, but then again, the OVERALL sound of VH improved when Roth left.

I think most people would agree with that, except for die-hard Roth fans.

  • @4cellar2door0 i totally disagree

  • @hirskdubbi Congrats, you're wrong.

  • @4cellar2door0 The one constant between the two eras is the never ending, balls to the walls, wailing of Eddie's guitar. I agree, Sammy's a better vocalist but, come one, Diamond Dave was the iconic front man during one of the best runs any band had during the late 70s/early 80s.

  • @bradh5150 Quite right. I love them both and fully agree, the band is called "Van Halen" for a reason, Eddie and Alex make VH, not the vocals.

and yes, Dave will always be an icon and he deserves it he was fantastic, I just prefer Sammy when I go to put a VH cd in my stereo.

  • @4cellar2door0

Completely agree, Roth's a better showman so I'd prefer to watch him in Concert but Hagar is the wizard for easy listening :o)

  • Their new guitarist Eddie Van Brockmullen is even better!

  • The Red Rocker Rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Van Halen is the best band ever

  • good iron pumping music, love van hagar

  • vh should have gone in cock nroll hall of shame yrs before. kiss aint in , rush aint in, all 5150 .why the fuck do u think ed ,al, dave didnt show. rr hf/ douchebagz.

  • @poijof ????????????

  • VAN HALEN SUPER BOWL NEXT YEAR!!!!!!! PASS IT ON

  • @skirbyr That would fucking rule especially after this years shitty performance. How could they go from the Who to the Black Eye Peas. What were they on? Van Halen should get both Roth and Hager and it will be the best half time show ever!

  • @skirbyr I told Janie VH to have VH play the Superbowl years ago. I don't think Ed and Al are into it.

  • @skirbyr That would be amazing

  • @skirbyr they'd be great for SuperBowl, but there's a lockout.

  • @skirbyr

I tried to thumb your comment twice...

I wish it would have let me! :)

  • glad they are in the R&R Hall Of Fame... still have yet to see them with Wolfgang, but i bet theres no difference

  • Your Pimp

  • I never liked the disco sounding drums

  • @krollaostmedburger disco sounding drums? WTF

  • @Transinater I am with you dude, the electronic drums, bleh....

  • @Soxpert ?

  • @Transinater I thought you made a comment that the drums sounded like disco drums, I was agreeing that I don't like the electronic drums on 5150. If it was not you that made the comment I apologize.

  • @Soxpert no i didnt i wasnt agreeing with that.. they sound like a kick ass drum set

  • you gotta be dumb how r u gonna say van halen sux compared to hagar

  • Oh but Sammy Hagar always gave a good drive through album . Van halen sucks compared to the Red Rocker .. Was always a trip why he would do that. Hmmm Vallery must have had some good pussy for all i can tell...and from what i hear Eddie dont give a rats ass from the garage... Go big whatever !!!! lol

  • EdDie VaN HaLeN is the best guitarist EVER!!!!!!! XD

  • @MrPetersonic100

    i AGREEE !!!

    gREETINGS FROM aRGENTINA !!!

  • wow have you tried? It's sound hard dude :)

  • Thankyou for the out standing music

  • isnt van halen gonna have a 2011 tour?

  • My absolute favorite song of all time. Not just favorite VH, but of ALL songs.

  • 5 people who dislike this vid had 5150 smack across the face

  • Sammy is a much better vocalist then David

  • @MrKermit09 i agree 100% its the truth, and the haters know it for a fact.
