  • 2 days of cease fire in Iraq and Afghanistan will save $1 Billion Dollar! Stupidest government!!

  • @sreeshankarlal1

No, because they've already spent the money manufacturing and distributing the equipment.

  • TED please have him back for an update!

  • mashaAllah!! simply amazing

  • cant wait for the first bio-wars

  • p.s., If they full scale tissue regen then it would negatively affect cyborg research. True story.

  • Here, Let me fix this for you. It is a simple concept.

Instead of saying WHY CAN'T, instead say HOW CAN.

    There, I hope that helps.

  • yea grow organs .. soon well be growing humans.. oh wait we already started

  • Compassionate Progressive Healthcare Proponents and Transhumanists unite, to end disease/aging and manifest our yearnings for immortality. It's time to transcend the limits and constraints we suffer via uninformed/confused masses.

That is all, as you were :) ~ S

  • seems like 21:23 minutes to me :D

  • @itchyb00 nvm, 19;03 minutes.

  • Brilliant. I hope to contribute to this field one day!!!

  • Hey! New Prez...maybe he can ask for his 2 mill now....

  • What Hubris & Outright Pettifogging Greed for the NRH Director to assert that the Vision is Bigger than their Appetite.

27.8 BILLION Dollar Endowment @ Harvard University & they can't pinch a bit for this strategic focus & development.

    What elite BLOOTERS they are..

  • Regenerative medicine.

The most important research of today that should be receiving as much funding as possible. I would donate on monthly basis for this cause if there was a viable way.

Unfortunately and shockingly very few people realize the importance of this. Nobody cares, there are even groups lobbying to ban stem cell related research. Look at the previous US administration etc.... :,-(

  • Actually they were banning Embryonic stem cell research which in decades has had 0 results. It's a complete waste of time and money, not to mention human life.

While Adult stem cell research is actually curing people today. See: /watch?v=zI7TQzVOc2o&feature=related

Idiots keeping hyping ESCR which is completley worthless and flat out ignoring ASCR which has Actually helped people.

  • @ThomasJS1

Yeah, they just wanna do it for the fun of it -_-

  • @Thedreamshaperabc

    I can't tell if that's sarcasm. So...?

    If it's not sarcasm.

I doubt they do it for fun, they do it for money, scamming people into thinking ESCs are some kind of panacea potion. IN reality it's nothing more than snake oil.

    If it was sarcasm. ehh.

  • why is this video gone?

    and where did it go?

  • the fact that this video is gone is creepy

  • Alan Russell Junior from newmarket Snooker player

  • I think every American should pledge at least 2 dollars per year to Allan Russell and men like him. Because it won't be the blood-sucking health system that is going to keep us alive, but men like Allan Russell will.

  • Just search google and find where he--allan Russell works at Harvard and get him the money. I think it is not just the amputees from Iraq, but all of us--young or old--who need this to work. If you agree with Russell--I do absolutely--then add his video to your list of favourites and tell your friends about it.

  • I think the christians got this video.

  • theres too much money in maintaining sickness for the fda or anyone to support prevention

  • Yeah, where'd the movie go?

  • WHERE THE FUCK IS THE VIDEO?!

  • Great, the video's gone before I got to watch it...

  • Why are we not funding this more?!

  • This is realy excellent stuff.

  • wat

  • great video :)

but what about the bans on stem cell research and the religious fundamentalists behind this? he should have said something about it in his talk.

  • Exactly. France and Japan and several other more modern countries are currently doing research without the idiocy of religion hindering their progress.

  • faithm:

unfortunately, you do not have any rational arguments to back this up. there are no child sacrifices involved. the religious belief that a bunch of 100 human cells can experience more suffering than a fly, which has 100000s of neurons, is irrational.

and it makes research of this interesting field of science impossible in many many countries.

its a case of dogmatic religious beliefs hindering scientific progress, and a reason to fight back against christianity.

  • You are wrong about that. Some people are against only one type of stem cell research, and that is EMBRYONIC stem cells, because obviously, it requires killing a baby prior to harvest. But there are many kinds of stem cells these people support in research and usage, such as umbilical cord stem cells, adult stem cells, fat-derived stem cells, etc. These do not require ending a life to harvest the cells. Pro-abortionists push for embryonic stem cells in hopes to 'justify' abortion as moral.

  • strange3141:

ill just repeat myself... "unfortunately, you do not have any rational arguments to back this up. there are no child sacrifices involved. the religious belief that a bunch of 100 human cells can experience more suffering than a fly, which has 100000s of neurons, is irrational."

embryonic stem cells are "harvested" while the embryo has a size of about 100 cells. any questions left?

morons oppose this because they believe in this nonsensical soul-stuff.

  • strange3141:

what purpose do those irrational religious beliefs have? like, this belief in souls?

if such a belief has NO positive effect, but when it has the negative effects that otherwise rational people go nuts when you criticize it, and that it makes stem cell research difficult, then we need to get rid of those beliefs, educate those misconceptions out of the people, to make progress in stem cell research easier.

what point? maybe AFTER its brain is bigger than that of a fly?

  • Kurtilein3 said: "what point? maybe AFTER its brain is bigger than that of a fly?"

Hey everybody! Kurtilein3 has just admitted to being AGAINST KILLING any babies growing in their mother's womb AFTER THE END OF THE FIRST MONTH of pregnancy, because by that time the baby's brain would be at least the size of that of a fly. Kurtilein3, at least you have made some progress. Keep at it until you support the rights of all babies in the womb.

  • I would think that a fetus becomes a "person" when brain activity starts, or just before the third trimester (about 25 weeks in). After all, it is our unique thought and creativity that we associate with our uniqueness compared to everything else right? Even religiously motivated people can relate to this and assume that this could be a representation of our "soul" So I figure that after 25 weeks its a bit late to consider abortion.

  • First traces of brain activity starts roughly at week 6.

25% of ALL embryos are miscarried by the 6th week. Meaning, in your worldview God is responsible for almost all abortions.

Virtually all(well over 90%) artificially induced abortions happen within the first trimester, and most before the first 10 weeks.

In such an environment, it is simply retarded to ruin the lives of women on behalf of unconscious parasites.

  • stop pretending like you care about human life strange3141... We see how quick people of your ilk dismiss human life after it's born.. cheer at the the slaughter of children.

championing the rights of eggs doesn't distract me from the misery you perpetrate on living and breathing humans you slaughter by the million.

  • When you are making claims about nature, you'd better be prepared to back them up or be laughed at. You have no reason to believe in souls. You have no idea what a soul is, and finally, you have no reason to believe anything related to souls happens at conception.

Why should I "respect" your unfounded assertion?

This is not a question of "intolerance", but about you being unable to back up your claims.

  • @strange3141 Your appeal to 'authority' or 'majority' here is a logical reasoning error. There is zero evidence of a human soul and many question whether consciousness itself is an illusion. Simple. If that changes, then we can speculate. Many intelligent people also believe in god, that polar bears are all left handed and that planet earth has only one moon ...they are all still lacking evidence or a solid base in observations in our reality.

  • @MindfulFuture

What are you idiots talking about now? I need to get that script to block these comments...

  • Wheres the video? >:O

  • Medicin only 2.0 great!

  • right ... "propaganda". because if youre a scientist working in fields of research that include stem-cells its absolutely ridiculous to posit that a Gore presidency would have been better for the field the the Bush Presidency has been.

    right.

    thats just crazy.

  • I notice a non-American accent. So he emigrates from the EU, where there's big research money. He criticized the lack of funding for medical research and then wishes Gore was President. I've seen a few of the TED vids but the underlying political messages from the speakers are distracting. For all of the U.S.'s political ills Gore is just another politician -- charming and with an axe to grind. It doesn't make him any trustworthy. If Gore was Pres -- what would we be complaining about instead?

  • not everything?

  • Can't wait till I become a doctor.

  • What a great talk. This is the real world implications of putting a dumb ass in the White house and people attacking science in schools. It amounts to the retardation of science and the slowing of these methods and procedures. All politicians should watch this video.

  • The Republican retardation of science has been immense. If Gore had won (wait, he did win) then it was be retarded much less. I don't think it would be utopia but it would be better. Look at all the money wasted on Iraq.

  • and yet you americans let that douche on the throne. again.

  • I am from and live in Scotland.

  • So; how's the view of things now? Is his work on the "bail-out" list -- or does the retardation continue?

  • Comment removed

  • @kjbhlogkh You can't read. I said it would have been better if Gore had won. All American president are horrific but I think Gore would have been less awful than Bush.

What you know about science I could fit in a thimble. Thanks for responding to something I wrote over 2 years ago.

  • @Mjhavok Yes I can read, and the truth is that I have reasoned out what can be done with all of what has been proven to be done thanks to something you have forgotten, which is the freedom of information act! Now I am going with what has been accepted by the most renowned medical scholars in the USA, and even the best in world, so just remember you do not go with what is accepted in medical school research hospitals, which is a fact!

  • @kjbhlogkh LOL

  • @Mjhavok You have the brain of an insect, where the people I have referred to have the brain a dolphin, and that is a fact!

  • @kjbhlogkh Once again you demonstrate your sound scientific knowledge.

  • @Mjhavok Gee I read what you wrote about how great it would if Gore had won, well I have this to tell you, and that is I am so sorry that Gore was never assassinated while he was Vice President under Clinton! Now I am going to tell you that it is possible to grow new body parts from the patient's own genetic make up without harm an innocent human life! So the only one who is retarded is you, so there for you can killed in cold blood!

  • religious groups hold the rest of us hostage to their superstitions ... we need to un-arm them and support stem cell study and development for the betterment of human beings lives

  • Agreed.

  • If the speaker would know that government funding isn't what the people in need for treatement needs he would realize that spending government money to solve a problem will not help. Instead deregulate and eliminate taxation on areas and you will see growth like no other country has. The only problem with this is that the government goons want get their money and they really really don't find that appealing.

  • anyone who has a problem with stemcell research needs to see this video.

  • Indeed.

  • how many years has that utter dumbass bush set us back scientifically; economically, and culturally...?

  • many, i suppose :(

  • what a great project. ..

  • Well, this is taking forever to load so i will go ahead an answer the question. Because losing an appendage is generally fatal, so there was no selection pressure for limb regeneration. Either that or its is gods plan for you to be a paraplegic and the evil scientists trying to restore your limbs are the agents of satan. It could be that.

  • FlailingJunk, it's a pity the video was taking too long to load for you.

  • why is this in autos & vehicles?

  • It's sponsored by BMW.
