  • Just got to say I love this video, and my 3yr old son is now asking when can we get one! LOL

  • @dep92 Thanks for your comment 1 Time to get a bigger yard, it seems :)

  • Silly Question, but what gauge is this?

  • @burnout300991

Not silly at all - had to check myself:

    It's a 15-inch gauge railroad

  • @MILW753

Ah lovely! Would love a go on that beauty! But I'm in the UK so not going to happen!

  • @burnout300991

Well, just hop on a plane. On the other hand, you have some very fine operations yourself. Perhaps more so.

  • @MILW753

Would love to but can't afford to :(

We have a good amount of 15" gauge railways like the RH&DR and R&ER. But I have a soft spot for the american 4-4-0's like the Cagney's and Virginias.

  • Let me guess, crown metal products? ...It also bears resemblance to the Dry Gulch Railroad in Hershey Park, Hershey PA.

  • No, Sandley Light Railway Equipment Works, which, like Crown, built locomotives for "park" service. However, that's really where the similarity between the two ends; Sandley custom built well-balanced and proportioned locomotives which drew heavily upon influence from real world counterparts, while Crown mass-produced a general locomotive which essentially disregarded influence of a 1:1 scale prototype, and was more utilitarian in design. It's kind of like the "scale model vs. toy" idea.

  • Ah. Thank you for pointing that out! I would've never guessed! Is there any way you can tell definitively between a Crown and a Sandley? I mean, if you were looking at a video, how can you tell which one manufactured the locomotive in question?

  • Generally, Crowns are smaller than anything that Sandley made. Crown's miniature locomotives were equipped with a large, stocky, wagon-top boiler, which sat on a relatively short frame, which sported extremely small drivers and a miniscule lead truck; a ridiculously massive balloon stack usually completed the appearance. In contrast, the only two 4-4-0's built by Sandley are relatively tall, with high-stepping drivers, a longer boiler and frame, and, generally, a more realistic appearance.

  • Thanks again! I can't get enough of these things! I would love to either own one, or know someone who does!

  • No problem, and yeah, I think we would all love to own a grand scale locomotive; nothing beats the "in-cab" experience that larger scale locomotives offer.

  • this is amazing. I really should go and try this someday.

  • This may be a dumb question but are there brakes applied on the coaches at the station when the loco is not attached?

  • @b3tothe12

Not a dumb question at all - I don't remember having seen any brake being applied. Will check next time I'm there. Sorry about the late reply, didn't get a notification of the message.

  • If I remember when I was there the answer is no and I saw a small scale derailment thank no one got hurt

  • WHERE IS THIS????

  • It's the Riverside & Great Northern Railroad in Wisconsin Dells (115 N. County Rd. N).

  • the disney trains are just full sized but they do are modeled after the same type disney has.

  • I don't - but it's something to think about....I did buy tickets for taking the vids, BTW. And yeah I suppose it looks like a Disney train - haven't seen one lately, though.

  • What a beautiful whistle! She is so beautiful that 4-4-0 American!

  • I also ran #98 at Wakarusa. Loved that engine! Glad she runs at RGN so I can still go see her. All the rest of the Wakarusa RR was sold at the end of June '07 and has been removed.

  • I used to run this locomotive when it ran in Wakarusa Indiana. I'm glad to see it still running. The R&GN is one of the best live steam operations in the US. Check it out if you're near the Dells.

  • Cute
