@311evo I was short shifting. I just wanted to show the lag that is present with a big turbo in low RPMs. Not a new concept really but you don't see too many videos on it. Obviously with such a small displacement we learn to stay within the power band. The motor could safely do 8K RPMs. I wouldn't have pushed it beyond that with aggressive cams for peace of mind.
I have the same problem with my EVO 6 at the moment turbo kicks in at approximately 5K what does that mean any ideas? I have taken it to the mechanics a few times but they just end up fkn around with some other sh*t just costing me some mean az dosh.
@bobanppvc really? lol five years ago that was good power for the primitive 35rs. Now you can make the same power with a smaller more efficient turbo...
@bobanppvc are you kidding 540 awhp is rediculous power ..my evo when it had 348 awhp on a mustang dyno ran 11.6@121 mph..and now it puts out 438 awhp on a gt3076r and i ran a 10.8@128mph ...on the dyno that i go to 540awhp will do 9's easy ..dyno numbers are are all different ..one dyno may say 600awhp another dyno says 500awhp especially if its a mustang dyno vs a dynojet..
Are you shifting at 7k? you not letting your motor breath! and of course your gonna get lag If you put It In any gear and just mash the gas. any turbo car Is like that. You gotta get up in the rpm to have Instant boost. I have gt30.272/272/tune/26psi 101. 489awhp/430awtq. stock block/head. I rev mine to 8200. Let your motor breath!!!!!!
Stock transmission will hold a surprising amount of power if you install a decent clutch... However you would need a built one if you're looking to drag or launch the car with all that torque. Buschur as well as some other renown companies could build your stock tranny for a reasonable price.
I think you guys might be confusing a boost threshold that is MUCH higher than stock with lag. Turbo lag is defined as the time it takes a turbo to reach full boost from the time the throttle is applied, ASSUMING THE TURBO IS WITHIN THE BOOST THRESHOLD.
Boost threshold is defined as the lower boundary of engine speed at which the compressor will operate.
In this context the lag isn't too bad at all. Once in the boost threshold it responds to throttle application fairly quickly.
u should switch to a HTA86 its a 35r that has a bigger wheel for more power it just came out and it kicks ass evos made 737 awhp on 30 something pounds of boost u wont have as much turbo lag with the HTA technology
when i think of replicating something that has hundreds of hours of flowbench testing done, i have a hard time believing you can visually observe how it looks and properly capture the same performance results throughout the powerband.
my turbo lag on my 35r is horrable.. but i mean.. if your coming off the line with a 2step not bad at all :).. im at 489hp on pump 91.. i wanna build the bottom end so i can boost more than 30psi.. im only at 25 right now
i have a friend thats got a T76 on an sti and if u think that lag is bad, he would start and finish a hotdog by the time it spooled from low 2nd gear, absolutly hilarious. You could go for the stroker but rev limit would be restricted :(
Yeah I have hybrid turbo that spools about 1k earlier it seems (4100) and puts out the same numbers as a 35R does. I'm still on stock block though so I stopped at 515awhp. Nice evo though man!
Only upgrade is one step colder iridium spark plugs and an HKS dli to amp the ignition. It would have yielded better results with a cop ignition but back then it was expensive.
wateva about the lag. first if u get a semi decent launch the lag is cut in half, second, obviously ur gonna get major lag at the bottom of second gear, any turbo car does. third, brakeboosting counters this entirely fourthly, does it matter that much in a race that results in u playing a mean game of catchup and passing the shit outa someone?
The car is sold now. I went with a 2.0 to get more top end. Technically with the ti springs and retainers I could have turned 9K but never really had to.

I like the lag myself, once you know where it is expect it, I think it makes it more drivable on the streets myself
*Notice how this is my opinion & no I dont know much about tunning cars so thats why I pay to have it done, but do the easy work of building them*
Olkowsr 10 months ago
Why wouldn't you rev a "built" 2.0 out more? with a build 4g63 9k rpm is well within the safe zone.

don't you lose boost a lil before the red line? so isn't it bad to go over the red line.
Havikboi 1 year ago
On smaller turbos usually. Bigger turbos with proper supporting mods and tunning allow you to usually keep the boost from tapering.
turkishexpress 1 year ago
@Havikboi
Only on small turbos that run out of breath up there. Bigger turbos won't drop off like that.
CoChicken1337 1 year ago
@Havikboi on a gt30 no, smaller turbos boost can taper down and fall off the power

you're thinking too hard, who cares about scientifics, car is slow and hardly pulls until 5000rpm, id say in normal explaination that is lag
1canadianehhole 2 years ago
No body cares, when you mention lag in the context everyone has, it's exactly understood as mentioned. That's all that matters on Youtube.

upgrade to a nice tubular manifold and some of that problem will go away +gas on a low second gear run will definetly have lag
tazdevilxxi 3 years ago
The manifold is basically a tubular AMS replica. The run was on alky.
turkishexpress 3 years ago
when you say "replica", do you mean it looks like it, or performs like it?
eeeen321 3 years ago
probably both however mainly it was a copied design of the ams

oh, gotcha....
when i think of replicating something that has hundreds of hours of flowbench testing done, i have a hard time believing you can visually observe how it looks and properly capture the same performance results throughout the powerband.

props to the sick ass car though
praetorian2150 3 years ago
Very true however for daily driving it does become annoying since there is very little torque in the bottom end. On the highway it was a killer.
turkishexpress 3 years ago
omg 32 psi ur nuts but alky is clutch
praetorian2150 3 years ago
gt35s come alive after 30psi really. Its was also a built block so it should have handled about 35psi on c16 with little problem.
