@Powerbench405 Oops! Don't look for the version associated with Angelo Debarrre (although I think he might have played it on the video I'm referring to). I steered you wrong there. You can find it by typing in: Gypsy Guitars - Japanese Sadman.
If you like gypsy jazz guitar, there is a very nice version of this song by the great Angelo Debarre. The video is incorrectly titled "Sadman" instead of Sandman. I think you would like it. It's great to hear it played really well on the guitar.
This was at the end of an episode of Boardwalk Empire and when the woman was playing it in the scene near the end of the episode I feel in LOVE with it. So beautiful
This is my favorite version of this wonderful old song. It's too bad the addition of strings with the rhythm section didn't go over with the public at that time. Artie shortly regrouped his band sans the strings and by 1939 had, in my opinion, the best big band in the country. What a lineup he had with that group of musicians, including a very young Buddy Rich on the drums.

I liked Artie's 1936 band fine. His 1937 one was not to my liking. But what came from 1938 on?. Pure gold.

This is amazing! This is one of my favorite songs ever! It makes you think that all modern music is so pointlessly stupid.

@honestabe1991 It certainly was a time when music was music, and not just noise.

I like the mood changes in the Paul Whiteman version. They’ve been “jollied out” a bit in this version which I think is a loss.

A quirky, unusual version of an old standard. Artie's 1936 band was pretty good!
