Those are the sweetest drums i ever seen fuck i almost had an orgasm seeing those. they are freaking awesome. btw do you have a tutorial for painting up those screws and stuff cuz i would like them to be black on my set. :)
Nice i just refinished my pdp set. Like yours it turned out amazing. It takes alot of time and patience, but well worth it. Its like having a new set. I used a driftwood stain by minwax, and then used clear polyurethane fast dry, by minwax. I applied my stain with a rag, and the poly with a foam brush.
dude !!!!! been workin on redoing my set and i just watched damn near all the drum refinishing vids on youtube and yours came out the best !!!! love the color ! sooooo much better then just a regular brownish wood color. props !!!!!! thumbs up !!! and im sure its been asked already but exactly what stain did u use ???
How may coats of pre-stain is required for this job ? I'm planing on doing my kit but a different color but u want to make shure I have all the right coats for everything :p nice job on your kit btw
how many coats of stain did you use, and did you condition the wood any before or after staining? sand sealer? and what the hell did you you use for your top coat? Thats a nice gloss man.
Thanks for all the positive feedback everyone. For those asking what I used, if you go through the comments, you'll find a few posts that have the exact materials used for this project. Thanks agin y'all. And be sure to post some videos of your kits if you decide to refinish them. It's always inspiring to see what others can do to make their kits more "them." take care.
so nice. i have an export too, i put a good amount of money into making it sound great but it looks lame. This video makes me want to refinish it. Great job man, looks sick
wow, thanks a lot. i'm extremely pleased with it myself. i was very surprised at how well it came out too. especially since projects that take patience aren't really my thing. i'm a rush rush rush kind of guy. but i lucked out with this project.
Just to let know, you're finish looks incredible. Can you tell me what exact minwax polyurethane you used (i.e. water-based, fast-drying, high build, etc.)? Thanks!
oh, btw, it has a much more "red-ish" look in the pictures than it does in person. it could be the sun-light that was hitting it when i took the pics. but in a room with no natural light, it's a much deeper, mahogany color.
stripes? what stripes? i didn't do anything other than stain the wood. any deviation in color that you see is the wood grain coming through. and to be honest, it doesn't look anywhere near that red in person. it's a much darker shade. i guess it's the lighting in the room i have them in now though. these pictures were taken with a lot of sunlight coming in the room.
omg this looks way hotter than that 4 peice gretch one for 600 dollars im so taking this idea. can't wait......... i already half way done just gotta stain and wood fill..... love cherry red..
what is the name of the color you shose for the stain? i will probably take the same color i really like it. And for staining et varnishing, what kind of brush did you use?
Minwax Bombay Mahogany. and i used a rag to wipe it on. 3-4 coats. make sure you put a coat of pre-stain on before the actual stain. after i let the stain dry for 2 days, i put on one coat of minwax polyurethane clear coat. i could have done a few more to give it a better finish. but, i'm too impatient.
oh, and for the clear coat, i used a stain applicator thing that look like a little shaggy rug on a wood handle. you'll see them near the stains at home depot, or wherever you get your supplies.
@brandontheninjag what do you mean by prestain like what does that do? and what did you do to make it shiny? is that the last coat. know as gloss or shine?
pre-stain is a product that you apply BEFORE the colored stain. it soaks into the wood and seals it (kind of). it helps prevent an uneven color in you finished product. and the last coat was a clar, gloss polyurethane.
@brousseau733 i would go to menards or some hardware store and pick out several stains and then get a peice of wood and stain marks to see which one you like best..
what can i used to remove the glue?

Fecicles 2 years ago
thank a lot! i really dig it.
i used 3 different things for the whole process.
1. Minwax Pre-Stain. it keeps the wood from soaking up all the stain to help prevent uneven finishes.
2. Minwax Plolyshades Bombay Mahogany Gloss. 3 light coats. i let each coat dry for about 12 hours.
3. Minwax Polyurethane Gloss Clear. 1 coat, applied with a wooly looking pad. they have them in the paint section of home depot, lowes, etc.
again, thanks. i'm really happy with the result i got .

i think all that stuff was fast dry.... ?
not really sure. i just grabbed some stuff that i thought might work. this was the first time i had ever done any wood staining.
