this is an examp le of this games sometimes awful level design, you pick these up like 6 levels earlier and if you run past em youre screwed

no, if ur talking about the scriptures you cant progress earlier unless you pick them up. a gate opens only when you get them all, and spikes are coming down from the cieling. so it would be impossible to get to this point without having them already. same with the small pouch.

Actually, you can use a corner bug in Sphinx Complex to get right into Mastabas, thus skip taking scriptures. You can't complete the game without them though.
