he had a tortured life going back to the fire which took several of his classmates in elementary school and left him burned and disfigured.... he left us these treasures which i play over and over and over again, and he provides a direct link to Sandy and Nick Drake and introspective greatness.. i treasure the note he wrote to me in the early 1990s which touched on his music and life's challenges.
Just caught Bert Janansch perform this song last night while he opened for Neil Young in Winnipeg, What a gem of a song. Bert mentioned to the audience to pick up a copy of Jackson's album if one had the chance. The hunt begins!!!
What a gem of a song. I feel that his voice is perfect for this song! I wonder if the lyrics have messages within them about his very troubled and sad life...
Lilstlove, a wonderful video! I'm sure that Jackson would of loved it! Thanks for the post. Jay
As someone else said, Jackson C. Frank and Nick Drake really do set the gold - standard for singer/ song writers with perhaps some Bert Jansch and Davy Graham thrown in!
Thanks for the information dlanodrelda, this particular track came from the 'Anthems in Eden' boxset which has lots of other folk gems on it. I'll be checking out Jackson's album :)
Thanks maida.. and yes i LOVE Nick Drake's music.. but thanks for the recommendation anyway, one never knows where the next musical magic may crop up, so it's good to be illuminated about new/old stuff!! :)
What an amazing lyricist and song writer. stunning metaphor of this life and the "carnival" characters and "games" we all face.Jackson is KING!!!

Now that I have listened to this many more times, there were some messages that he had left for us to ponder on...

his one album, produced by paul simon, set the standard for singer-songwriters some 43 years ago and it has yet to be equalled.
