A perfect song for the 99%. Despite all the looters stealing our country, we will take it back. We are the country. We are the nation, and we will survive.
Why must people politicize John's music?! Yes, this song could be used for either party's agenda but I think we should just accept it for what it is - a statement of ideals that transcends party bounderies. Great music and beautiful lyrics. John will live on in our hearts.
I have not listened to this song in years. In this time of the "great recession" where we continue to pay for unjust wars, the rich continue to receive ungodly tax breaks, the poor are cast aside and the middle class struggles to stay afloat as it shrinks, this song is still meaningful.
Agree with 2010. John was a man of inclusion, love. He and Buffy were part of RFK's campaign. TEA PARTY....... John Stewart's heart would have been diametrically opposed to the TEA PARTY of hate.......
i was a friend of john and i can tell you that your tea party friends and glenn beck had nothing in common with john. John cared about America. Do not disgrace his name by associating him wiith Glen Beck.
I'v been following John since 1975. We would get 12 or more of our friends and go to Knott's Berry Farm to see John Stewart, Rick Nelson and others. Those were great days. After 30 plus years and we all still listening to John Stewart. His songs mean even more today than ever. Our TEA Party friends play them always, how great is that. I have heard some of John Stewarts words & message on Glenn Beck. The T.V. is on and WE KNOW SOMETHINGS WRONG! Thanks John & Glenn Beck too. May God Bless.
John Stewart leaves a legacy of hope in a deeply divided country. His other great patriotic songs include Mother Country and Walk on the Moon. I still listen to his original version, often.
John Stewart also does an excellent version of "Moriah" when he was with the group, Darwins Army, since leaving the Kingston trio. Unmistakable voice, perfectly tuned for folk. Thanks a bunch for this vid, without it, I may have been still searching for John Stewart
Can't believe this is only the 2nd comment on this video. I once again marvel, as I do when watching "Mother Country," at John's stage presence. We love you, John, & miss you very much.

John sang this song with John Denver on his 1975 album 'Wingless Angels'. Two greats so sadly missed.

4GreenFrog I heard him sing in the 1970's at Ebbets Field in Denver when the album containing this song came out. An overlooked classic song.
