and to think he went on to do the theme tune to Bond's "Casino Royale"..... which is a bit more mainstream but still a fuckin' belter, especially as recent Bond themes go!!!!!
Far and away my FAVORITE Soundgarden tune, and one of the best of the entire 90's era! Don't know if this is a coincidence or not, but this came out not too long after Exxon Valdez...which begs the question...Who's going to update this video with footage of the BP disaster?!?!
Grunge is not a music style. There is no really grunge bands. Grunge is the name that Nirvana gave to their music, there are some simillers in the music of grunge bands but there is not pure grunge. Soundgarden in exampele is metallic grunge.
@yonatan1612 Nirvana didnt give the name 'grunge' at all. You are write about Soundgarden having fuck all to do with Nirvana. In clubs all the Nirvana fans would be in the punk indie room listening to L7, Mudhoney, Sonic Youth, Pixies, Janes Addiction, Dinosaur.
Soundgarden got played along side Pearl Jam and fucking GnRin the rock room next door.
@GasPoweredWitch considering sg's sound changed COMPLETELY over the years i dont see how you can say they are grunge....grunge wasnt a sound it was a style of dress...cant you just say sg's a good rock band...just like stp aic and nirvana ALL were
Man were we that fucking young? Crazy. This sound has stood the test of time and definately represents the best of Soundgarden. It kind of scrapes the ears clean of the current musical "talents",
@cjopimpjuice I know, right ? I haven't taken any interest in any new music for about the past 5 years. I mean, there is bad and repetitive, and then there is BAD and REPETITIVE. That's my description of a large percentage of music these days.
Always been a major Soundgarden fan, wish they had never broke up. They had it all, hope they don't limit their reunion to Lollapalooza, would LOVE to see them live again, they were (and still are) incredible...
@romano9174 I agree with you... but think that... because of that break up, Cornell and the others could discover other bands and other stiles, and in their reunion they will make more and better music than never before.
@yitzchak13 Never in this life... lady gaga is a man with strange "music" style... she is rare come on... You can't compare her with soundgarden.... soundgarden is millions of times better than Mr. Gaga
Also technically speaking, it is retarded to classify music so stop arguing about it. The most that you can define grunge is a rockish style band from seattle nothing more than that. AIC, SG, PJ, Nir sound nothing alike so how can you argue about a style in common that is grunge. Secondly their own music varies so drastically you cant say they are a certain style. Thirdly it is pretty hard to say Jesus Christ pose has anything in common with Come A You Are, so it cannot be defined musically
Ive met Chris a couple times(I lived i West Seattle for years) pretty cool guy. Once we were both buying beer @ Charlestown 7-11 at2am(last call till 6) must've been late 90's, so he was at the heighth, and dude was still down to earth enough to laugh with me about making it JUST before 2
In the movie "Pacific Heights" this was the video that was playing on the t.v. while Mattew Modine is getting his ass kicked by then-psycho Michael Keaton. I didn't know what the hell a "Soundgarden" was at the time.... but the song stuck with me until I found out. These guys are fuckin' butter.
what can i say? this song has blown my mind since the first time i heard it , about 20 years ago.
almost makes me sad, the music industry will never be that good again. great vid from a great band from a great time period for music. looking forward to the reunion
actually its the other way around, technically speaking. Grunge is early metal with hardcore punk and some other elements. Soundgarden is still REALLY FUCKIN KICK ASS! but they were kinda just caught up in the grunge umbrella
@bleachno9 If you want to get really technical Grunge isn't a genre because most "Grunge" bands don't really sound a like. But Soundgarden by modern standards not only started earlier than Nirvana but released albums first, and got signed to a major label. If any band got caught under the umbrella it would be Pearl Jam or Alice in Chains.
@EddyIbanezConnected actually soundgarden suck compared to nirvana, in fact soundgarden is probably the worst grunge band out there, boring slow ass songs man
@BrickUnit hoho, if I was a lesser man I would totally rage out on you for saying that, personally I think the roles are reversed. But, hey man, it's music. Both bands are great in their own right. At the end of the day it all comes down to personal opinion. But, solely to indulge in the little fanboy in me ... you CAN'T say songs like Hands All Over and Birth Ritual are boring :p
@BrickUnit no problem, it gets on my nerves when people act like the band they like automatically should be the greatest band of all time solely cos they like them. It's basically musical snobbery and not what music is supposed to be about. I say there's nothing wrong in having an opinion, as long as you don't try to force the opinion on someone else. I mean, personally, although I do think Soundgarden is the better band, the first band I ever got into was Nirvana, so I share your taste in music
@EddyIbanezConnected fuck you because nirvana was an inspiration to many im 15 years old and 3 years ago i hated anything to do with any thing to do with guitars nirvana turned me to grunge and yeah i like sound garden but theres no REAL grunge it comes in different ways wether its sound garden, nirvana, aic, skin yard, mother love bone, mudhoney, mad season, screaming trees, stps, temple of the dog, pearl jam it dosent matter thats grunge non are fake its grunge respect that!
@DXrulez491 It's obvious that you're 15. Soundgarden, Mother Love Bone, Temple of the Dog, Mad Season, Alice in Chains...that isn't grunge.
