Recovery begins with a choice to begin, admitting I had a problem and talking with another addict that has recovered was how I started recovering. Knowing that I was not the only one with an addiction got me started in a program to recovery. With me it was accepting Jesus Christ, and turning my life and will over to Him and his ways. I have been blessed since that day. And I always maintain an attitude of gratitude.

I find the propaganda comment interesting. Too bad you don't realize that when you replace that addiction with something higher than you you begin to heal. Addiction is all about filling a void on an emotional level. The best way to fill that void is with unconditional love and knowing that you are good no matter what. It's not all about the choices you make rather it's about what you choose to do with what you learn from the results of those choices. I hope you will get there some day:)

My son is addicted to methemines. He has been in rehab three times. He is not a criminal. He is an addict. He should not ne treated as a criminal. He is not religous.

When He last got out of rehab he could not find a job for six months so he went back to selling drugs. He is up before the courts again. He has not hurt anyone.

Somethingdiffereable. Recovery is a well documented, effective method of treatment. Hundreds of thousands of people are free from addictions because of following the 12 Steps. As for zealots, the 12 Steps are only suggestions. They do not force anyone to believe a certain way.

In recovery it's strange I have always seen a hierarchy of drug users. The heroin/opiate addicts are usually above the rest. The alcoholics are second and the crackheads are seen as the worse. Crackheads seem to be unpredictable, scatter brains, and can't be trusted. Heroin addicts usually don't look as worn down as crackheads or alcoholics because it doesn't damage the body as much as the others.
