You'll get used to it. Later you will realize that Gimp is much easier than Photoshop. I use Photoshop and Gimp. Honostly I think they are sort of both the same. Try it out for a week or two. Look for some tutorials and you will begin to love Gimp.

Just keep in mind that your audience is made up of beginners to GIMP, so we need all the steps :)

If you take your original text selection, grow by 2 or 4 pixels drop to bottom layer above the BG Layer and add a Gossian Blur of about 10 to 15, you can get a Glowing Neon Sign Effect cause it sorta looks like that.

Hypercam is no good. Its confusing and leaves a watermark. Camstudio is the best free Screen Recorder.
