  • i am one of the biggest mckidd fan.but wronsky is absolutely not his role. He was so great in Rome and so freaking hot and convincing as Dr. Owen Hunt.....maybe I did not like the character of Wronsky at all........same goes for McCrory. Wonderful actress - wrong role.

  • btw annas hubby is supposed to be OLD

  • First five minutes, already got infidelity and an obvious idiot for a husband. You KNOW it's gonna be one of those movies. ~Sigh~ This is my third time watching it, because I always have to watch movies like this more then once to understand all the language and subplots and everything that's going on. . . . I'm not sure this one is worth it. It's so depressing, full of despair, disappointment, rage, jealousy, . . . tragedy.

  • russian version of the movie is wayyyy better

  • @hasiko07 hey which one? i also dont like this one.

  • Kevin McKidd is SO hot!!

  • Kevin McKidd.. *_*

  • If you don't have time to watch the best version (which is 10 hours), this 2nd best version is alright.

Tolstoy wastes little time in establishing Stepan as someone who makes trouble, or poor Levin as very impressionable.

  • I've read the book dozens of times, and in my opinion the 1977 BBC version is absolutely superb. It is faithful to Tolstoy's masterpiece and contains wonderful acting. Nicola Pagett, Stuart Wilson, and Eric Porter star. I believe someone posted it to YouTube. I can't recommend it highly enough!

  • ...and any thoughts abt keira being the next anna? I think she's going to screw that all. Too young (anna is abt 35), too fake, she can play a british or a french, but never a russian. And Jude Law being the old boring grandpa Karenin? Bitch please...

  • u may think she's ugly, but when did tolstoy describe anna as being beautiful? he just said when she entered a room, everyone would look at her, due to her presence. Kitty was the beautiful one, but she wouldn't get the same attention. Helen did the best anna: sweet and kind in the beginning, bitter and mental in the end. Sophie was depressed the whole movie, greta was sad the whole movie... After her, the anna from the russian version was superb.

  • Some really crap acting in this section.

  • Lucius Malfoy made 8 accounts to dislike this

  • Did he say '' Exxon Mobile Masterpiece theater'' ? Lol really?

These greedy bastards stick their greasy fingers every where.

  • What are you all talikng about? Did anybody see the Russian version of Anna Karenina? That is a true masterpiece.

  • @dmelkumo I'd love to see it. I want to see the Russian version and the 1997 film, but I have searched to no avail :(

  • Helen McCrory is a "dynamic", beautiful and accomplished actress...I cannot stop watching this film.

  • I wish if Youtube would download Anna Karenina, played by Sophi Marcu, released on 1997.. that's the best.. and I tried my best to find the film in the dvd stores in our country but couldn't.. don't why we can't find this film even online!!!

  • @aldallah I know >:( I'm looking for the '97 film and the Russian ones.

  • here here not very good, REMEMBER Anna was an older woman, BUT beautiful, so agreed. Not the best. Kevin McKidd is a better Lucsious Veranus, and not a very good Vronsky. There are much better versions.

  • Narcissa Malfoy ♥

  • Helen is too old for this role. And she isn't pretty enough to play beautiful Anna. I don't understand it: Greta Garbo, Vivien Leigh, Sophie Marseau and now...Helen McCrory?! This role is for glorious beauty. And Vronsky looks like Nazi officer. Oh, dear... And stop talking about differences between Russian society and Western society. It's XIX century! Russian Empire was a part of Europe and all the differences were unimportant. Russian woman could do the same things as Western one.

  • @GreenBaldrick-Sorry, but I do not agree with you. I've seen the versions with Garbo and Leigh, as well as Marceau, although those ladies were/are beautiful, they don't have the acting "chops" that McCrory brings to this character. When she "unravels", you can actually feel it.

  • @GreenBaldrick Yea i agree is doesnt match her to be Anna .. and for the society trust me it was different, you should check out the Russian version of the movies its much better, and you see they way their actors are dressed the city and everything is different.

  • @GreenBaldrick

Agree. Russian aristocracy was more ''westernised'' then Westerners... :) They spoke since childhood french, german, english but many didn't know russian. But why do you claim Vronsky look like Nazi officer? According to your way of thinking, every white, blond and hard man looks like a Nazi... :) So who doesn't look like Nazi? The poofy with ponytail, of course... :)

  • @GreenBaldrick nazi officer hahahahahaha u got it.

  • @GreenBaldrick I disagree quite strongly with you. Helen McCrory is gorgeous, and does a bang-up job with the role.

  • Helen McCrory is so gorgeous!

  • @kurthalover you got to be kidding...

  • I prefer version 1997

  • She's not beautiful enough to be Anna Karenina. and Jesus way too old.

And what is this Steva?! Cannot watch this.

  • i absolutely love this novel! and what i love more is that kiera knightly(my absolute favourite actress) will be playing anna karenina in a film adaptation of this novel and it'll be out next year!!! i dont think it can get any better than this!

  • @parisgala88 i love this novel but I am not sure on Kiera playing her

  • @ChanelNumba19 i don't know, i suppose we can judge her portrayel of her when the film comes out, but i am a big fan of kiera knightly and the novel so fingers crossed she won't dissappoint!

  • who is that man with my mum?! wait til my father hears about this!

  • Well-staged! Lighting and costuming good. I like this promo!

  • Stepan is way more ebullient than what is portrayed in this version

  • Just finished the book....This is not good, and at 8 minutes I have decided to terminate my viewing

  • Is the 1997 version here on youtube? I can't seem to find it, there are only cut scenes....

  • In my ideal Anna Karenina miniseries line-up, I fancy Kevin McKidd would have made a perfect Levin... tall, soldierly and stoic... He just seems too honourable to play my Vronsky!

  • I must say I struggle to find Helen McCrory's beauty. She looks so old here. Some older women are beautiful, she really isn't.

  • @wasilaify It's a matter of opinion, really. I find her arresting because of her acting and her demeanor, conflicted, fragile and strong at the same time.

  • @wasilaify That's all you can say really? She is a brilliant actress. If you do not view her as beautiful that's your deal, but try not to be so short-sighted that this trait is all you see in her as a person or actress. Her acting in this film and several others is extremely remarkable!

  • @auburnchick939 I do agree she is a brilliant actress. I hadn't seen her in anything extensive, just a couple episodes on Life. Even from those few episodes, I could tell she was a very forceful actress and I do respect her for that. This does not change my opinions about her looks or the fact that she looks extremely old for this role.

  • sorry for my English. Kitty is 18 but there she looks older. In original Dolly doesn`t shout at her husband. It was bad manner and ladies didn`t do that in that times. I don`t know. Quality of the film is perfect but something has missed.

  • @niqulya92

In the book she is described as raising her voice to her husband. Also, women may not have often raised their voices to their husbands in front of others for the sake of manners and expected attitudes but in private, women would not have concealed their feelings and emotions to such an extent.

  • @LetUsFloatLikeAngels I don`t agree with you. Sorry for many questions, but let me ask where are you from? Russia? Do you now them better? Have you ever talked with them? Yes, now they have changed. But in 19th century women couldn`t shout at their husbunds. And they called them in second person. Unfortunately now it is difficult to find polite man in Russia. Sorry for mw English. I am from Azerbaijan so now I`m learning english yet. Thanks for reading.

  • @niqulya92 A woman could shout to her husband but it was seen not appropriate.

  • I absolutely LOVE Helen McCrory as Anna. She is absolutely stunning & her performance is magnificent.

  • I love this story have read it and seen different versions

  • merci beaucoup!!!

  • this anna may not be conventionally beautiful but her performance is breathtaking.

  • e ljudi ima neko ovaj film da se skine i prevod na srpski

  • What is the name of the song at the beginning of this video?

  • omg I didn't recognize Mark Strong at first! He looks so different..... wow o.O

  • Where did you find this movie?

  • The action in the movie differs from the book text a lot! ;-) but... maybe it is ok as for a screen art ;-0

  • Kevin McKidd rocks my world since one year! I totally love him! He is a great actor and seem also a nice person.

  • ANA Karenina?.WHY THE HELL U CAN'T LEARN IT SAY RIGHT ON RUSIAN?!!!

iT'S ANA KARENJINA (N+J) and Tolstoj name is not LEO BUT LAV!!!

  • @17bmi . You have to give it a better though mate. Leo (leon) is actually a greek word which means Lion and its pronounced like that (leo) so i think you Russians make the fault from the begging to pronounce it LAV give it a rest and let people call what ever they want...

  • @sarthing

Yes,sure call him $*&$#()) that is also the way someone wants it. You don't have to learn cyrillic alphabet, but at least write it as it should be written.

  • ya pa la version française?

  • I would like to find the one with Sean Bean but it is almost impossible :( Does somebody knows where I can watch it online?

  • thumbs up if you are in IB!

  • ya pas la version française??

indiquez moi où je peux la trouver svp..

  • I'm reading this book.. -.- boring!

  • @GreenEyesBlueEyes94 To each their own. I was prejudiced about the book. I thought that story with such trivial plot couldn't be good. But I'm abslolutely amazed with the book. I read it in two days, and I'm definitelly going to read "War and Peace" next

  • @VATmulan OMG!! I don't disagree with the book being excellent, but HOW COULD YOU READ IT IN 3 days!!!??? I absolutely admire you, I've been reading it for 2 weeks now and I'm on page 250 (which is far from being half of the book). Oh, and did you read War and Peace in the end? Is it as good or better?

  • @Vlessgorian I'm just a fast reader.Plus I was ill so i had nothing better to do. I'm reading some other books at the moment, but when i finish them I'm going to read War and Peace. I'm sure W&P is better, my mom says so and plot sounds better

  • @GreenEyesBlueEyes94 Apologize my English. ¿A boring book?... ¡A boring book! It's one of the best novels ever written. If you want to understand this novel, you need to be an adult and you need to be an usual reader. It's a jewel of humankind. Please: keep reading and enjoy it! (I'm not russian, I'm spanish).

  • @leonalopecico I'm 17 yrs old!

I'm reading a lot of books, because i need it for my school,

every month a must read a book, that has about 500-1000 pages!

sometimes 2 books at one month...

this books is very boring, beacuse they desribe eveything they describe how Ana fart! -.-

I'm SERBIAN ( same religion as Russian, same people )

and i agree with you maybe i'm too young! :)

  • @GreenEyesBlueEyes94 I agree.I had a feeling that I'll kill myself before Anna dies!I suppose it's just the fact that I completely dislike these kind of books. And it's even more difficult giving the fact that my Serbian professor adores this book and I have to read it if I want to pass her class.

  • @ThePottergirl7 E knjiga je smorila znaci! :D

I ja moram da je procitam da ne bi pao!

  • @GreenEyesBlueEyes94 O, zemljaci!

  • @VATmulan Ooo zemljace!! :P

Jel' i ti citas ovu lektiru a? :D

  • @GreenEyesBlueEyes94 Da, procitala sam

  • @GreenEyesBlueEyes94

    haha slazem se

Sta ovi znaju, samo mi jadni citamo sve zivo

  • @mixdcolourflower Lagano!

  • I can't read this book without feeling like a perverted old man is trying to think like a perverted young woman.

  • Ha-ha!! We have to read this at schools in Russia. I wonder if anyone from my class finished this book at all not to mention Tolstoy's "War and Peace". I feel like reading this book now finally.. but I'm 30 already, older than Anna Karenina.. ))))

  • arrgghhh i dont know if i should read the book first or watch the movie?

  • I hate this movie and I hate the book, but since I have to read It for school, I would much rather watch the 4 hour movie than read the 4 month book

  • They could of had a better looking woman to play the part, the guy isn't that bad looking.

  • Mark Strong, the one who plays Stiva is also in Sherlock Holmes as Lord Blackwood.

  • this isnt how to book begins?

it starts of with stepan talking about his affair with dolly

  • I have decided to watch this again for depth and meaning instead of for enjoyment.

  • Me encantó la versión de Sophie Marceau y Sean Bean, pero esta versión no la he visto. ¿Alguien puede subirla con subtítulos en español?

  • This is the best adaptation ever. Both of them are full pf passion and compared Sophie is just funny.

I ask all Russian of origin to explain what Slovens` passion seem to be! Only we are able to love like this.

  • mmmmm... kevin mckid.... xd...

  • and she can be very pretty, too!

  • @butterflygottafly haha I feel the same. She is also my 2nd favorite actress. My first however is Meryl Streep. ;)

  • HUNT.

  • Dr.McHottie

  • The best Anna Karenina is the one by Sophie Marceau but, the most beautiful was Vivien Leigh.

  • Mi inglés no está muy bien pero como sea la voy a ver y lo que no entienda me lo explican....

  • This is exactly how i pictured Vronsky!!!!! McKidd is just gorgeous here

  • He really is!!!

  • But I like this version
