  • shit.. i cant believe how many people are saying that the we have to yield to someone with their blinkers on..... hope u guys get into an accident when changing lanes one day. so that u can learn this simple driving lesson in the hard way.

  • lol I see this a lot in California. even closer lane changes at 80MPH

  • Drivers must yield to any car indicating they are changing lanes. As one of the other commentators said: "Statement of fact, not polite request for permission."

Now, the indicating driver can't just put on their blinkers, drift into your lane and expect you to dive out the way, but as soon as you see that blinking light ahead it is your responsibility to slow down and let them in.

  • @topstep Absolutely NOT in Ohio. The driver changing lanes has an ABSOLUTE responsibility to stay in his or her lane until such movement can be made in safety. The person who is already in the lane has ZERO *legal* responsibility to allow a lane change.

From a moral or defensive-driving perspective it is a good idea to allow a lane change to happen to promote smooth traffic flow. However there is no legal requirement to do so.

Where do you live? Your driving laws are backwards.

  • @Scruit This boils down to basic common sense. How do you define "safely"? In bumper-to-bumper traffic, you might have to wait for several minutes for a suitable gap in which to move.

Help the driver changing lanes make the maneuver safely (for them and those around them!) by slowing down and letting them in. Once they decide to change lanes, they are looking ahead, left and right, and in their mirrors - this is unsafe. Expitidite the process for them by allowing them in.

  • You may be right that one has no LEGAL REQUIREMENT to let people in, but common sense says do it. It is like standing on the right on an escalator.

    Thanks for the reply, BTW.

  • @topstep Legal cite to back up my opinion:

ORC 4511.13 A(1): " A vehicle or trackless trolley shall be driven, as nearly as is practicable, entirely within a single lane or line of traffic and shall not be moved from such lane or line until the driver has first ascertained that such movement can be made with safety."

  • @Scruit Thanks for the follow-up. Like I said in my original post, I'm not in favor of just slamming the wheel to the left and expecting people to let you in. But if a driver is clearly signaling an intention to move, then universal common sense says do that person a favor by just tapping your brakes and letting them in. It is clearly the safer option for all concerned. But as I said before, you may be right in that LEGALLY there is no requirement to let someone in. Thanks!

  • @topstep Not true. The vehicle already established in a lane has the right of way.

  • @topstep they came up from behind and they were already changing lanes before coming into view.

  • Impatient idiots behind the wheel. This fkhead will cause an accident one day and be even later than he already was.

  • Doesn't happen to me in my Crown Vic Police Interceptor :)

If I were you I jump into the other lane and do the same thing to him.

  • Oh my God, I see this all the time. It is SO annoying and dangerous. What is even more aggravating is when someone waits until the last second to merge and then completely fucks up traffic.

  • damn no offense i thought miami drivers were bad. seen your vids, we aint got it that bad down here. good luck driving.

  • Actually, the turn signal is a statement of imminent fact, not a request for permission. In many states, hitting a car attempting to change lanes when it was far enough ahead for you to see the turn signal is a failure to yield ticket.

  • @mrblanche Utterly incorrect. Your turn signal is a signal of your intent to turn and does nothing to alter the fact that it is *your* responsibility to stay in your lane until you can change lanes safely. I hope you don't drive.

  • @Scruit You are correct that it is the driver's responsibility to be sure he is clear. However, one he is clear and puts on his turn signal, any failure to allow him to make his lane change is a failure to yield.

And you can only wish you had my safety record, with over 2,000,000 miles without a ticket or at-fault accident.

  • @mrblanche you can't change lanes into an unsafe gap, fuckstick.

  • @mrblanche yea i would have to agree with scruit, when you signal its showing your intent to change lanes, and you have to find a opening and a safe time to change lanes...

  • noticed the delaware on the sign, my sisters goin to udell.

and more relevant to the video, i hate assholes like this...

  • Sometimes I feel like performing a pit maneuver on these idiot drivers.

  • you follow too far thats why

  • Ironically, other people who have seen this video have accused me of following too close. Ths is a true life Aesop Fable.

  • Slick move.. My thing is, cars have brakes, make em use em! Yeah it didn't make YOU happy, but it was slow, smooth, he signaled, and you braked n let him in.. You could have kept pace n let him hit you.. He knew you would back off and he got what he wanted... oh well..

  • i don't see what was wrong with it, there was room and they at least signaled

  • There was only about 2' between our cars as they changed lane. The lens makes it look farther than it was.

  • @Scruit

If there was only about 2' between your car and the truck, then there was only 2 of the next measuring units between your car and the one in front of you. If you don't respect the law, you shouldn't complain about other people doing the same. He needed to get to that lane because of the divider that you see at the end of the vid, and giving that everybody was driving so close to each other I say he did an excellent job merging without hiting anybody.

  • You say too close, others say too far. Which is it?

If she got herself in a position of having no more space to merge because she drove past the entire 1/2mile backup knowing she needed the left lane then that's her own doing, not mine.

There is a safe following distance between myself and the car that was legitimately in front of me. There was not enough space for this new car to merge without creating a dangerous situation.

No accident != it was safe.

  • Everyone in this video is driving poorly, but if you want him to get a ticket for getting too close to you then you should get a ticket for not allowing enough space for safe maneuvering. And that pickup looks big; in some US states bigger vehicles have priority watch?v=qvzkI9YxSNY

  • These are cars, not boats. Name me a state where trucks have ROW for no other reason than size.

  • California and I think Nevada or something. It's in the comments from watch?v=qvzkI9YxSNY

  • No, seriously... You can be naive if you wish, but I need something more substantial than "Some guy in the internet said it". Link to DMV website with list of ruls? Link to a state traffic rules pamphlet? Link to section of law?

If you've convinced yourself that trucks have ROW by virtue of size alone (despite road markings or street signs) based only on youtube comments then you are so awe-inspiringly naive that continuing this discusson is an insult.

    Official link, or gtfo.

  • I cant stand when ppl do that. if it was me I wouldve gladly returned the favor. what an asshole.

  • nice one

  • lol what car is that suv ;D

  • COMING IN!!

  • that was close!

  • Makes it even worse when they are driving a battlewagon like that.

  • Is there a target on your forehead? lawls

  • Nasty!

  • Stuff like that makes you want slap someone in the face.
