Most people know that JCVD's character of Dux inspired Mortal Kombat's Johnny Cage and his Low Blow Split Punch move was put in as a tribute to this movie. The creators of MK were big Bloodsport fans and they also put in more tributes, including the scissor takedown leg grab Van Damme performs at 1:29. Scorpion had this move in MKII.

Not long after this movie, 2 great events that changed entertainment history happened. 1) the first Ultimate Fighting Championship AKA " UFC", and 2) the video-game "Street Fighter 2"... I've no doubt VD is a good kick boxer but its his fight scenes that lets him down, most of his opponents he fights seem to be waiting to get kicked by similar fancy kicks you can see coming from miles away, i think he should have hired a better fight choreographer in all his films.

@HDsharp I looked it up on wiki (I know,Ihave no life) and it says he was famous in Denmark as a bodybuilder and martial artist. Which means he probably did show karate,like when they do katas and scream real loud for the judges.But it doesn't say he fought in the ring. So, not really a fake, but don't think he would 've done so hot against some1 of Paco's caliber in the ring. Still, this is one of my most favorite fighting movies. I liked when the monkey guy fought the sumo.
