  • Thank you for posting this. Show's him with that"look I like." But....time marches on!

  • My whole approach to songwriting was predicated upon this guy during this period in his career. I never concieved of anything being this real until Copperhead Road and The Hard Way came out. Revolutionized my whole take on everything.

  • The Other Kind is Metal/Rock at its absolute best! Best Song of Steve Earle's life! Rock On, my Friend Duke Steve

  • I had a best friend that separated from his wife while we were in the military. After she picked up and left him he took his Honda V45 Magna on a road-trip for a month across the American Southwest sans hotels. He slept when he wanted, ate when he wanted, and made friends wherever he found them.

He got back with his Wife, and slept with mine a year after that. I beat him so badly it took me 3hrs with a steam-cleaner to remove all the blood.

But I envy him that road-trip to this very day.

  • @Prometheus1st You should send that story to Steve. He could write a song about it.

  • @Prometheus1st That's a hell of a story, brother. That could be a short story in the Times or a hell of a song.

  • Like a rolling stone! love this tune!

  • (oops) ...on my way home from work.

  • @aswtx75 Me too man. Usually on the way there too. Fav song of his.

  • My favorite song of his. I sing this every day on my way

  • No doubt this was magic. I actually have "the other kind" tatooed on the back of my arm. He definitely pulled from a darker place back then, but it was in a word...magic. I do miss that sound, but his new art is just as magical, not quite as dark, but neither is he. I love him and he will always be the best writer ever in my books. May the shadow of Peace and Love follow Steve and his family wherever they trod! Peace from West Texas!

  • @songcrafter1971

His son Justin is pretty dark - if that is any substitute. :)

  • @songcrafter1971 hello friend, i was born and raised in Texas, my Mama grew up in Colorado City, TX, spent a lot of time out that way. i've been in MN now with my husband and children for 23 yrs, been a huge Steve Earle fan for yrs and yrs, this is my favorite song of his and i have to say he sure could make a girl's heart hurry in those days. Hope you got to see him on this tour.

  • @songcrafter1971 wherever they tread.......dumbass. wow no wonder america has won the noble prize for literature so many times..........uh oh sorry did i miss a meeting?

  • @stevieraygod I'm not about to get into a discussion with you about literature and grammar. Obviously you've no grasp of either of the two. However, the jest of my comment was a peace blessing to, in my opinion, the greatest wordsmith of our time. Peace to you as well.....wherever you might trod! Peace

  • I had no idea this existed and he played this on Letterman! My favourite part of Steve Earle's years (although not the best for him). Thanks so much for uploading this magic of history. Looks a bit different now!

  • @unrepentant42 hello friend, remember me??? You are right, Steve was incredible back then, and easy on the eyes (well, for girl types anyway...) He's coming back to Minneapolis July 23, of course you know I'vehad tickets in hand for a long while!! Hope you get to catch him on this tour.
