very informative, if you guys ever feel that you're getting too old for the duels(and if you are anything like my grandfather you will), give me a call (not to say you're getting old, you're in like what? your 20s now? but everyone get's old eventually)
Very informative guys. I totally agree about the film school thing, it's just not needed anymore. Filmmaking ( like any other art form) isn't something you need to go to school for. So many talented artists (filmmakers included) have been self taught. And I personally think that's the best way to learn art, on your own.
I plan on making music professionally, and I've been debating whether I should go to college to do so. So far, I'm thinking it'd be a waste of time with all the money I could e investing in first-hand experience. Thanks for the insight guys! And best of luck to you both. Thanks.

The thing about all this "Use of the Force", and I'm just saying this with absolutely no knowledge of how this movie stuff works, is that it takes a lot of work, I'm guessing, to make those effects look good. I don't think they're trying to focus on that, but on the lightsaber dueling itself, which (In my opinion) is exactly what they should be doing.
i thought about making a movie on a murder based on a true storie its going to take me a while because i have to get like 50$ to get this one editing sofeware to make it because the widoews movie maker wont work for the editing i need to do. if you guys have any tips or anything message me or comment me. if you have any idea send me a video on your idea and if i use your idea i'll put you in the credits in the movie.
I have watched both rvd's and all five of these faq's' I can't really say that you inspired me to do visual effects in the first place but you have inspired me to keep doing visual effects and keep trying, riqht now I am currently on the beginners level, but I keep improving.
You guys should try using slo mo for ONLY a few parts. We definetly dont want that whole slo mo crap from 300, but using slo mo to emphasize some epic parts would be badass.
here's an idea. Rapid fire force pushes. or force lighting grenades. or have that infamous sith scream tossed in. maybe have one part of the fight dedicated to an all out force power battle.
see your next RVD in 2011! sooner if you can manage.
They used fishing line for when it was moving along the ground, and after effects has a 3D modeler which I'm guessing they used to make the floating lightsaber.
i like these films and respect their time and effot, but dorkman sounds like a undiscovered Kevin Smith. In the sense he talks like a guidence counsler who pats himself on the back a little too much. Someones a little to knowing about everything related to film.lol
If you want to be taken seriously as a filmmaker you gotta walk the walk and talk the talk. Coming across as unprofessional and indirect isn't going to open any doors for him.
@Masonhosey: I agree with an armor that can resist or block lightsabers, but an armor MADE of lightsabers would probably turn you into confetti. If a single bit came loose... SLASH
could the dweebs from the star wars universe make some sort of armor from light saber material.. since a light saber is the only thing that can block another light saber, I think having a suit made from a bunch of small light sabers covering your body would be smart..
Boba Fetts armor resists lightsabers, not deflects. Mandalorian Armor is very hard to make and made of rare extreme-heat resistant metals. Also his neck isn't protected by said armor, which is how Mace Windu was able to decapitate Jango in the 2nd movie.
a magnetic serface can deflect a lightsaber because a light saber uses a plasma blade and plasma can be controled with magnetic waves and forces so if you take tungsten carbide and mix in iorn with copper inner coil it would completely protect you from any lightsaber blows the only problem is protecting your joints
The mighty and washed up George Lucas clearly didn't think of that as he was writing the award winning scripts for the prequels. His thoughts were more... "HMMM, how can I piss off every fan I've ever had? I know, Jar Jar!"
Jar Jar wasn't THAT bad!! I think he just threw him in to add some humor to the movie. He's done it with the other films with some characrer. NO director can resist sliding in some humor into their film(s).
Paul Greengrass (Bourne films) can resist the humor urge. Some of the best action movies of all time don't have characters of comic relief, and the ones that do are at least well written. Braveheart and Lord of the Rings come to mind. Jar Jar was just a poorly designed character. Deep Breath. OK, I'm going to bed.
I completely completely agree at 8:38-4:00, criticism is your best friend... If you look at what you are doing, you think it's amazing, others may not think so... as long as it's constructive, instead of being "oh, you suck" tell why you suck... you hit it right on the nail.... i have videos I need criticized, and a way to remedy the problems. I know what you mean....
The stuff that was cut out from KotOR 2 was hidden on the disc. The people that worked on it got screwed over in the end by Lucas Arts basically saying "Put it out by christmas. It'll sell because of the name." and a lot of stuff got cut out. The developers were pissed and hid the real stuff on the disc. I had heard The Sith Lords Restoration Project was adding that stuff back.

I ade an hour and a half documentary on my tour overseas, and i was interviewed by the Military Channel. Talk about cut-and-dry feedback. It was the most rewarding experience of my life. It gave me a violent shove into how important TRUE feedback is rather than patronizing "atta boys". I wish you guys the best.
cool guys - glad to see there is a lot of intelligence behind these guys - i really wish them tons of luck and fortune with all they get into - all the best guys! May the force be with you!
HOW DARE YOU DISCRACE THE NAME OF STAR WARS!!! even though these guys are out of this world, None shall ever be able to match the kick assity of the Star Wars films. (No offense Ryan and Dorkman)
RvD3, you make like a short film instead of just a single fight, but HAVE fighting in it, but give a storyline, that would be out of this world, it would be better than the star wars movies!
About everything you said about going to film school..HELL YEAH! I totally agree, guys. I never went to film school but I know what I want to see on camera and we just make it all work..good luck to you guys in the future!

RvD3, you make like a short film instead of just a single fight, but HAVE fighting in it, but give a storyline, that would be out of this world, it would be better than the star wars movies!
