i watched this movie in my US history class this past week. it hit me so hard. I'm here on youtube to watch it again. I will definitely be thinking about those americans who have fallen in the past wars. You will never be forgotten. Happy Memorial Day. 5/30/11
@ArmyGrl341 Well, now he won't be disliking ANYTHING, anymore! As much as I'm glad Bin Laden is now dead, I won't celebrate until all our service men & women come home!
I'd feel really bad if I ever heard that on a plane. It actually gives me confidence for when I join the Army. To know that someone will do all this for me after I die gives me a peace of mind that I can have confidence in.
@WaffenCommander You're joining the Army? Noble. Don't die for your country. Try to live for your country. You're a hero. I'm a retired veteran. Bless you.
@cutedramaqueen123 same here! if i hadn't been in class, the first time i watched this, i think i just would've cried half the time. such an amazing movie.
I've never seen such an amazing movie, one that inspired me greatly! My husband is a soldier, my sister a sailor, and my brother-in-law is a Marine. I thank god daily for them, and all alike, for their service!
who's the idiot who clicked thumbs down when rating the movie? Hopefully it was just a slip of the finger and not serious.... rented this movie from netflix. One of the very few that I have given a 5 star rating to...
This is why the United States of America is the greatest country in the World simply because they know how to honor their fallen warriors even though it's hard for them to send their soldiers to a war ...A war that could easily kill one of their brave warriors. Great movie, and so touching. May the good Lord bless the souls of all those brave soldiers who sacrifice for their country so the rest of us will continue to live and be free everyday. Amen.
Possibly the only movie i've ever seen that actually hits me pretty hard... As a Marine myself even though i never knew him personally he's still a brother and I believe this film honors him very well... and every Marine that has fallen...
This is why the United States of America is the greatest country in the World, They never forget their heroes who died and served, fought for their Country. It's amazing and very touching how they continue to uphold their great traditions in giving well deserved respect to their fallen heroes. I never seen this HBO Movie but definitely I'll watch this one. Kevin Bacon is one of my favorite actor.
@TheMarineKid17 ...My understanding is that while you are correct the movie is also being accurate...he had JUST been promoted right before his death but the paperwork hadn't yet caught up to him (though he officially had died as a LCpl, he was still a PFC as far as everyone involved at the time knew).
@bigscottlarock Your cousin is where he is because he was scared to death that you and the rest of his loved ones might one day wake up in tyranny. His sacrifice is for love of you. Please remember that when he comes home. Never be afraid to tell him. He needs to know how much you appreciate him.
My son is a Marine so it this movie hit close to home. This is a amazing movie. My wife cried through the whole movie, and yes I did my fair shair of crying.
@rav1984wi What a magnificent movie. Had to dry my eyes more than once. As a father i can understand this must be very emotional for you, having a son in the Marines. We can only have respect for your son and his fellow soldiers and hope they come back safe. Here in Europe we seem to forget what you did for us in '14-'18 and '40-'45. A little less critics and a little more empathy. 38 year old police officer from Ghent (Belgium)
Im a SGT in the army and its not my commander in chief's fault that were over there. It's bush's fault from his dad and him. So dont put the on my commander in chief... think before you make a comment like that...
Taking Chance is the best movie I've ever seen on television. What I loved about it is that it celebrates the life of a young man as he's transported back in a coffin to his family - yet the respect and honour/ honor shown to him is moving, touching and incredible from all people from all walks of life as he moves from place to place. Stunning Kevin Bacon performance and such a beautiful tribute to Chance R Phelps - son, brother, friend, young man who chose to fight for freedom. R.I.P Chance!
This is really proves that americans really take cares of their warriors even in death, they're being honored with excellent respect. The movie shows how to properly honor those who gave their lives for their beloved Country. VERY TOUCHING.
I read about this escort in the book "Operation Homecoming". One of the best books I have ever read.
I just ordered this film on DVD. I also ride with the Patriot Guard Riders that no one that serves our country ever goes to their grave without them and their families knowing how much we appreciate their service and sacrafice.

If you have never done a funeral detail in the military you have miss a unique experience that will stay with you forever!
You will REMEMBER
You will remember seeing the flag drape casket and slowly saluting a fellow Soldier!
You will remember the Family who will come up and ask you questions about their Son!
You remember the crying, sobs and tears while you remain motionless thru the Memorial Service!
You will remember folding the flag!
You will remember...
