Hey, folks, if you're ready to get really excited about a wonderful female trumpeter then look no further (and look up) Canad's Ingrid Jensen. She'll blow you right out of your socks.

btw, great camera work! I especially enjoy directors who can follow scores at concerts like this. The timing of the cut to the trombone at 1:57 was bang on!
At the proms it's all planned before hand so the producer knows which camera to go to at what point in the score. I know this cos' my mate does that job for the BBC. So don't give them too much credit ;-)
Ok I can see that she's good but I don't play the trumpet and I'm not insanely impressed so my question would be is she just loved because she's that good looking or am i missing something?

Technical ability does not dictate absolute popularity. A lot of factors have to come together at exactly the right time; marketing, repetoire, taste, style etc. It is not very easy to win over the mass audience.
I heard the Hummel and Libertango Friday and Saturday night. Each day in its own right were exquisite and beautiful. But, Saturday's performance caused tears to run down my face. Technically superb, musically it's a passionate as a pensioner from Skegness. Where's the floridness? The flamboyance? Frigid is the word I'm looking for I think. Wish I had that technique though.
@euph4simes I guess the sheer volume she had to play it at must have partly made deducted from the freedom of expression - hard to make a line really flamboyant and vibrant if you're already starting it at the top of your lungs. The perception of it being slightly frigid may come from being too used to such stuff being played by Jazz players - who have the advantage of amplification.
Oh - and for those people who are only interested in the physical appearance of female musicians - your needs would probably be better met elsewhere on the internet. Please go there.
I just listened to the Tine Thing Helseth version and I like Alison Balsom's better. She has a broader range of timbres and plays it like a trumpet, not a cornet. there is also more passion in her music. You also have to take into account that this is a live performance, so there will be imperfections. @Kevintoful No, I'm sane. Wynton Marsalis is clearly not worse than her, and probably better. He is better well known and can play jazz, where Alison can't.
@jamieblond - Piazzola's music is all about color, gradations of tone. The bucket mute was essential, to create that contrast with the later passages on open trumpet. Listen to his original recordings and you will understand.
