Our mentally deranged hero construes the laddus symbolically as the goddess' breasts. (Breasts, in fact, symbolically represent the mother-aspect of the goddess, no sex-related feeling here). This was from a newspaper review by acritic when the movie was released. Kamal - the god of screenplay, take a bow!

the screenplay in this song is remarkably awesome. The hero notices the following signs that strengthens his belief that she is the one - the bell, everyone giving way for her, the signpost that flips accidentally and points to her, the cloth that flies away exposing his face to sunlight (darkness removed and enlightened) and the guard pointing in the queue's direction which is where she actually is.

santhana bharathy was directed this movie, but always he is dummy, the brain behind this scene, direction, theme, concept, acting all by Kamal. I heard Kamal say in a TV interview that he had asked maestro to give him a tune in line with a tamil devotional song named "Kaa vaa vaa, Kantha vaa vaa"... and hence came "Paartha Vizhi"...

Note the use of "Udukai" in this song. This is a percussion instrument Lord Shiva has. The use of the instrument signifies that Kamal's mind is in a trance or "Ananda Thandavam" seeing the girl. Only Ilaiyaraja can pull such musical nuances out of nothing. He is the god of music really.

The M2 D2 N3 are whats making it sound like Kalyani, but the R1 and G1 are different from it.

Tha ctresses name is Rohini, she is a Northindian and the music has been set by Ilayaraja. The story has been set with Abhiraami Bhattar a great saint in mind as an undercurrent.
