  • This song is so beautiful <3 Maybe it's from both Tom and Harry povs. They've both basically lived the same life. They are both orphans, had terrible childhoods & are extremely powerful. I think the only thing that's different is the path that they chose. Tom let the darkness take over and Harry fought to become immune to it...there are just some lyrics meant for one of them in particular like "I met a man whose name was Albus" and "I am the Boy Who Lived"

  • I thought this was about Tom. Then I heard "I'll be a hero."I said," Tom, dude, your not a hero, you're a villian." Then I heard the line that said " I am the boy who lived " I said," Oh, it's about Harry."

  • I always thought it was from both points of view and that it was a kind of duet, some parts fit with one but not the other, and some with both.

  • i would love so much to have instrumental version of this song! i love to sing but i don't know how to play any instrument

  • Gah, what an EXCELLENT collaboration.

  • It's probably from both Harry's and Tom's PoV. Just makes the most sense.

  • aw i want a film about tom now:)

  • this shows just how Tom and Harry are alike :D

  • But it says 'I met a man named Ablus who told me I was a wizard...' etc, it made me think Tom, because it was Hagrid who told Harry about the wizarding world

  • @EpicFailsism I personally think the whole point of the song is that you don't know who it's talking about. Harry Potter and Voldemort started off at the same spot. But the ability to love made a a world of difference. So this song is about both and neither of them.

  • this song, escape from azkaban and meet me on diagon alley made me fall in love with MoM

  • I love your user name :DD

  • I actually think that this song switches between Tom and Harry. It all fits Voldemort until around 2:14, and then back to Tom at 2:54, and so on (every other chorus).

    Make sense? I think so.

Love the song and the video. ^^

  • @robopkins

yea, only in the acoustic version, they changed the lyrics from

"today i met a man whose name was albus"

    to

"to day i met a man who's name was hagrid."

And M.o.M has been known to change their lyrics on songs they messed up on kinda :)

  • when I first heard this song, I thought it was about tom because of the whole albus thing haha.

I would feel so bad for him if he didn't turn into a raving lunatic mass murderer :/

  • amazing. this is such a great video. you did an awesome job with the editing. and i love the concept of this being tom riddle. so true. i never thought of it this was but not i agree. this is really cool.

  • Its actually meant to be heard from Harry's side, when it says dumbledore, MOM made a mistake, it was later changed to hagrid, but yeah...can see how this version fits for tom.

    Awsoume video btw ^_^

  • I'm pretty sure they're talking about Harry, because they say "I'll be a hero...I am the boy who lived" I think when they said "today i met a man who's name was Albus", they might have just meant Albus to really represent the wizarding world and the school of Hogwarts. In the acoustic version, though, they changed it to Hagrid.

  • I agree about seeing it through Voldemort's perspective, because Harry wasn't told that he could go to Hogwarts by Albus; he was told by Hagrid....

    This song is SOOOO AWESOME!

  • oh wow, I really love this video. I never thought about it that way, but it really makes so much sence. And I love how all the clips fit together, even those from different films

  • Great vid. I think that this song could possibly be from both points of view - one lead taking harry's pov and another lead vocal taking tom riddle's... then it explains the parallels between voldemort and harry's beginnings, but very different paths they took.

Perhaps I'm looking into things too deeply, I don't know!

  • Nice take on the song, and the clips fit really well! The first time I heard Ascendio, I thought it was about Tom Riddle until they were singing "I am the Boy-Who-Lived!" and then I realized I was wrong D:

  • Wow, this is so good! I could also see this song with the POV of both of them, but with Harry being ' A hero' and the Boy-Who-Lived. It's like they could be singing about the similarities, but Harry saves the world from Tom Riddle. Do you get what I'm saying? I didn't really explain it well.

  • I think the song is for Harry, but they really messed up in one big spot the person wasn't Albus that came to Harry, but Haggrid. So I'm thinking maybe they meant it for Tom Riddle then screwed up and put the boy who lived near the end. I don't know, but it's a great song and the video was great for showing Tom's early life great job.

  • This is awesome. It really puts some emotion behind Voldemort's childhood that not everyone thinks about.

  • This is really awesome. One of the coolest parts of the series is how Harry, Voldemort and Snape had such similar childhoods.

Very creative to apply this song to snape. :)

  • And by Snape I meant Voldemort.

    FAIL.

    Anyway, awesome video. :)

  • this is so sweet! It makes me want to watch a mvie about toms life. but that doesnt exsist. Are you going to make more riddle vids after HBP comes out?? i hope so!

  • Thanks for commenting. I cant wait until HBP comes out! It will be so nice to have new clips to work from and Ill definitely try to redo this video, no guarantee on how that will go though =D

  • i love this song so much! i actully think its better as toms point of view.

  • It's really a beautifully done interpretation of the song, it really expresses the feeling of it nicely as well.

  • So grate!!! I love you you made it about tom, not harry, it wroks so well!!!!

  • It could be from Riddle's perspective but there's a few things to note. It never realy bothered Tom to be alone. He preferred it. The only thing he could be counted as a hero for was the Special Services to the school award he'd gotten but he caught the wrong person. And at the end of the song it says 'I am the Boy Who Lived' 'I am the one to save the world'. which definately doesn't fit in with the Tom Riddle PoV

  • I realize that this song was meant to be for Harry not Riddle. When they say the boy who lived, I was kind of just thinking: lived his life to the fullest. And I think in his mind Tom probably thought of himself as a hero that was helping the world of wizards. Not saying I think its right or anything lol. Truth is - this was the first video I made. I was kind of doing it just to see if I could and because it was fun and passed time. Thank you for taking the time to watch it and commenting =)

  • @TheSilverDoe77 Wow, great job for your first video =) This is my favorite Ascendio video here. I like it better with Tom's POV. I think the song was written for both Riddle and Harry. Masq 19 made good notes for Harry's perspective, but there's also things that fit Riddle but not Harry. Such as "today I met a man whose name is Albus". Riddle met Albus, Harry met Hagrid. Either way, awesome video =)

  • I really love this video ! It's so sweet ! Really sad too, you have to admit, not many have pity for Riddle if he was alot like Harry it many ways ..

    <3

  • I think that this is from both Harry and Tom's pov because Hagrid and Dumbledore told each of them respectively about the wizarding world.

  • this was great!

  • wow. I LOVED it! I know I've said this alot on Ascendio videos, but this actually is the BEST version I've seen so far. I almost cried. Btw, I loved how you used Skander from LWW and the boy from The Devil's Backbone. I never would've thought of that. Awesome! I give it a 5/5!!

  • Aww thank you so much =)

  • @TheSilverDoe77 i give it a 25/5 i LOVED it! i dont want harry potter to end

  • It makes more sense from Tom's point of view; sort of. I mean, Harry wasn't told of Hogwarts by Dumbledore, and he certainly never called him 'Albus'.

Yet, I don't think Ruddle would mind being alone all that much. Nor the heroism.

But I can see a sort of hunger for power.

    Great Job!

  • yeah but the only thing is Riddle was never called 'The Boy Who Lived' OR definitely NOT 'A hero' lol. But, yeah I do get your point.

  • i like it better from tom riddles POV, great job

  • this is SO beautiful

both the song and the video

i had never thought of it from tom riddle's PoV but i guess it makes sense, and makes it even more meaningful

thank you so much for posting this

  • You're welcome, I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for the comment =)

  • Thanks for the comment. Im glad you liked the video. Because I dont own the song Im afraid Im cant send it to you. However you can buy both this version and an acoustic version of Ascendio and lots of other great songs by The Ministry of Magic on iTunes. Theyre all great and if you're a fan of Wizard Wrock its really worth it. Hope this helped you somewhat =)

  • woah.. coool^^ and a also a really great song amazing singers^^

  • Yeah the Ministry of Magic are great. Thanks for the comment =)

  • To make up for those comments that don't have much to do with this vid.....

    I LOVE this vidio!!!!

I think I've said that before, but it's true. I come here quite often, it's been on my favorites for forever!!! Lol! =)

  • LOL It's okay really. Thanks for the comment.

  • You're welcome =)

I REALLY want to learn the guitar notes to this song, I'm going to try to find them. Then I can play the song even if the internet is down! Yay! =)

Oh, wait, I can already do that, I downloaded it from walmart........

Lol =) I'd still like to know how to play it though.

  • omg! i never thought of it being in voldemort's pov, but i think maybe that's what ministry of magic wuz thinking when they wrote the song--they said that he met a man named albus, not hagrid. harry met a man named hagrid, but voldemort met a man named albus.

  • Yeah when I first heard the song I never though it could be about Harry, then I saw peoples videos on here. The fact that no one had made one with Voldemort was just too tempting. Thanks for the comment! :)

  • I have always felt the same way about Tom.

I have loved him since the second book.

*ahaha, yes, i am crushing on voldemort.*

I think it was his fathers fault that he became who he is today.

If it wasn't for Merope, then he would probably have a nice, pureblooded family, therefore not counting on being evil, only counting on staying alive.

lol. sorry. i love these videos that you make.

  • Don't be sorry, I love comments! :)

  • I agree. I've thought about it several times and I've always wondered if it was more Merope's fault than his dad's. I don't really blame him for leaving, he never even liked her in the first place. He was just forced into it.

And I used to have a crush on (young) Tom Riddle too =) I'm a Gryffindor, so I get all mad at myself about it, but you have to admit, the guy who played him is really cute. Lol =)

Great. Now I have to dock house points from my own house for admitting that :( Lol!

  • That was supposed to go bellow Circusdoodle's comment.... I guess it's not allowing me to do that. Lol! =)

  • I am super Slytherin.

    ONOZ.

    WERE ENEMIES D:

    well, our houses are.

    :O

  • Ew, I can't believe I tryed to talk to a SLYTHERIN!

*sniffs and turns my back on circusdoodle*

    Lol =)

Or we could be best friends and attract a lot of veeeerrrrryyyy strange looks from everyone....... But your house might try to kill me......... Lets meet in Gryffindor tower only, K? I'm kinda nervous going in the dungeons with them, it's cold anyway. Lol! =)

  • I know. But the cold is easy to get used to.

    Gryffindor tower it is :)

    rotfl [=

    don't worry,

    I'll keep Draco back, I swear;

  • Yeah, we've got an awesome view, we can spy on people and drop watermellons out the windo on Slyther- I mean, Ravenclaws.

    *smiles innocently*

    Lol =)

    You'd better, he's creepy. =)

To be frank, I'm thinking none of them are going to be too happy about a muggle born being in their dungeon, I'd just suddenly "dissapear" the second you leave arms reach.

    Lol =)

And maybe we should continue this on our profiles so we don't pollute this vid? Lol =)

  • Okay, rotfl [=

  • I really like this one vidio!!!!

You're right, it can be seen through both Voldemort and Harry's point of view.

  • :) Thanks for the comment! It was just too tempting to make a video with this song for Voldemort's life when I saw that other people had only used it with Harry's.

  • You're welcome, it was an awesome idea!!! I really like it, I've watched it several times.

  • Jason said the video is written about Harry.

I guess you can interpret it anyway you want, but that is from the man who wrote it.

  • I mean, one of the men who wrote it. They usually collaborate.

  • Yeah I know the Ministry of Magic wrote this song about Harry, Im not trying to say that they didnt. This is just how I heard it the first time I listened to it. I just thought it would be a fun video to try to make. Thanks for the comment! :)

  • Yeah, I like the video, it's interesting. What movie(s) did you get the scenes from? I've seen all hp's once, but I don't remember some of the scenes. When I first thought about Albus, instead of Hagrid, I wondered if they were doing some kind of hero-villian allusion. I don't know.

  • I put what movies I used to make this in the description. You can check them out by clicking more info. Im glad you liked the video. Ill be putting up more Wizard Wrock videos soon Im sure. I havent got a very good movie-making program, but some of these songs are so good that hopefully theyll be able to speak for themselves :)
