She actually has an amazing voice! Strangely she even sounds similar to Britta Phillips. Both very talented. But I do wonder why they just didnt have Samantha do both the singing and voice of Jem or the other way around. But very glad because we prob would never know how awesome Samantha is ;) Jem is my all time favorite cartoon and now my lil girl loves it too! Happy they have it on Hub Channel!! That really is how she pronounces "very". Anyone remember how she was saying "vurry" when she was talking about that douchey guy who was her co-star in the Jem movie? I think he was named Nick. That's cute.

Being able to see the woman behind the character's voice is so comforting in a way. I just got the complete series on DVD today as a gift from my husband and I cannot wait to start watching it.

Yes, she was Jem's speaking voice, but if I recall correctly, she did actually sing the song for one episode. If I recall correctly, Happy Endings was the song. The episode was a bit different, as that was the only Jem song for the episode, instead of the more typical two or three songs. They made up time by singing it two or three times.

I love Britta Phillips and have all her music (Luna, The Belltower, Dean & Britta). But if your gonna assume Samantha is taking the credit then at least educate yourself before and know that at least Samantha Newark is more for her Jem fans as Britta is. And Britta was more ashamed as she tried to jumpstart her underground Alternative bands. She now appreciates her background but does not like her fans or people to bring up her Jem career nor to cover songs. Samantha does! We love you Sam!

Why does she keep talking about music when she actually didn't sing a note in Jem? She was only Jem's speaking voice, yet she is deliberately misleading people into thinking she actually sang the songs.

@dazzababes Also she wanted to become the singing voice as well, but the speaking voices where recorded in Cali while the singing voicews were recorded in New york so it was impossible. The Holograms and Misfits are the same backup vocals too, just different styles of singing

britta just get over Jem like any other project. But for Samantha Jem still alive, like in our Hearts...because in the deep of the serie, jem was a message of Love and Sacrifice. Samantha know that. like we know it too.

@elcultodejem I've to disagree. Britta might have simply sounded a bit nervous (after all, it's a bit rare she does an interview), but she did give a lot of credit to Jem being her start point. While she may have "gotten over Jem" somewhat, it was just as much a part of her life as it was Samantha's.

@dazzababes Yes kinda get's tiring talking about why we both were cast - I've done my best to let people know that I did all the acting and Britta the singing and even this interview for the DVD I wasn't paid so as a compensation I asked that I was able to promote my music. I talked about how there were 2 JEM"S in the interview but they chose not to use the footage. The fans know that I'm not trying to take credit for Britta singing I don't need to I have my own music career that I'm proud of.

@Samanthanewark Oh! Wow! Excellent voice casting. I've never actually heard you or Britta sing your own songs, but I always thought Jem's acting voice and singing voice had to be the same person because of the tone and pitch.

For me, it seems like the 80's were the last era for really good voice work. My friend is a voice casting agent in San Diego and I used to asked how the industry changed so much because the quality of the voices just don't have that unique quality anymore.
