Wish i had such music notoriety ! This is an overture ''a la Francaise''; there is four of these and from 1 to 4, the second and third are the most played. One of these two included the «air on ''G'' string», and the other the famous «badinerie»flute challenge that features on next videos of this orchestral suite BWV 1067. Good earing !
Can't seem to put links in here, but if you go onto amazon and put in something like Ton Koopman Bach Orchestral Suites in the DVD section, it should come up. It's basically called "J S Bach: 4 Orchestral Suites (Amstersdam Orchestra)"

Of course, Frederick the Great, modeled here as the flautiist, here, who doesn't play against the orchestra as he would in a concerto, was in modern terms a sublime bullshitter, one of Adorno's Germans who could not tell a lie he did not himself believe.
But: Frederick the Great no Hitler, merely a highly successful general willing to take casualties who had the bad taste to engage the enemy and win wars.
The harpsichord isn't too loud. I'm glad you can actually hear the harpsichord. You often miss the sound of the harpsichord in ,most "modern" performances and it's a shame.. So, no. this is just fine
i love the bassline, it's so simple, yet so genius!

@1spiccatto That's cause it is! If it were me, it would tuned a half step lower still... at a=392

Bourreé means with butter?
diarreacartman 1 year ago
@diarreacartman You're probably confusing the French word beurre with this word Bourreé, Bourreé is a french dance and beurre is the word for butter

Keep in mind that this is not a concerto for flute and strings.
Here, the flute part often doubles or closely overlaps, the 1st violin part.
wcbroccoli 3 years ago 4
Also, the this flute is an old flauto traverso, of which sound is quite small compared to the modern western concert flute.
shaind 3 years ago
This is very very good, but it seems like the harpsichord is just a little too loud compared to the flute.
