  • OH MY GOSH I WANT TO CRY! Thanks so much this brought back so many memories my girlfriend Charlotte dated Chuck from the Untouchables and my girlfriend Mignon dated the drummer crap cant remember his name - was it Rob? So I have great memories hanging out back stage with the Untouchables et al. Good guys.

I had a crush on a guy from The Crawdaddys who would never give me the time of day - lol.

Crazy crazy times at the Roxy - ON Club , Lhasa etc.

    Thanks again!

    Valerie

  • Can anyone tell me if there is any kind of mod / scooterist scene in California still? Would love to here back from anyone.

Cheers Chris (A British original 80's mod who still riding scooters :)

  • @chrisallen2004 - Yeah, there's a small scooterist scene which the weather here allows. There's no "mod" sceme to speak of, although once in a while people will throw Northern do's or what have you.

  • @chrisallen2004 Hey Chris, just noticed your post, I was a mod back in the 80's really missed not having scoot's for years, finally getting back into it. I have 62 vespa restored. I used to have a jet 200 built by wclw with a full race rayspeed 225. Damn I miss that lam my! I don't know of any scene at all, I don't have any friends into them anymore either. This music and scooters still are still the SHI*T.. thanks, Jack

  • The mods in So Cal wore a great variety of things on their parkas, from beer mats, to flags of all kinds, pins, Bob Marley, all kinds of band patches, Stiff LIttle Fingers, numbers, everyone wore original things on their parkas partly for pride's sake and partly to prevent theft. It's a live and let live kind of thing....

  • Secret Affair played the Whisky A Go go in 82 is there any promoters out there interested in getting the band back?We get so many requests on the website from Californian Mods.

  • Ah, remembr the days when you could find killer 60s clothes at Savlation Army. Now it's all '80's stuff and "vintage sections" that cost as much as new clothes.

  • I notice one guy had a German cross on the back of his parka instead of a red, white & blue roundel! - How very bizarre!

  • @drwhatson Yeah I didn't quite understand that either.

  • Brings back some great memories. Up all nite dancing, scooter rallies, great music tit was all good and good people. SI Scooter Club Orange County MUM BUNS!

  • The image on 2:27 epitomizes the coolest aspect of the Mod/Scooter scene in the 80's:

2 wide and cruising the boulevard...

Showing off the style and suits...

And "no helmets" you could sport a tight "French" cut...

Will this style return, only time will tell...

  • Wow. You really can find everything on youtube. Not only do I recognize some of the scooters, but I remember some of the riders as well.

And yes, I still have my parka.

  • Hey this is Lisa from the band the Boxboys. It was a great time. Thanks for all the memories

  • Thanks for the awesome slideshow. I went to a bunch of those shows at the ON and Lhasa clubs, especially the concert factory. Where did you find that newspaper photo of the big rally (towards the end of the show)? I see myself and a couple of buddies in it and would love to get a scan of it!

  • @ocsuedehead - send me a private message with your email, and I'll get it to you.

  • Those are some sick ass scooters! I've been trying to save up for a vespa myself.

  • I like the Cali mod revival. It seems purer than the british revival as it wasn't tainted with punk/skinhead/casual culture as much. I imagine there was a lot more clothes to choose from stateside too. It also seemed a very multicultural scene... something I think most would agree fits very well with sthos of modernism.

  • ive always been can u have yank mods when its such a brit thing mods, but it looks if you hade a scene!! cool!!!!!!!!!! mod for life since 78 and still going till i die

  • LA's own The Untouchables - now there was a great band! A non stop dance party - I used to must have seen them 25 times between 1982-1984! I've never had as much fun to a band since.

  • Fun days them. Thats me at 0:39. That's an Innocenti, not some plastic crap....hehe somethings never change!

  • When you walked out of Fenders and your scooter was gone... Stupid Mods.

  • I was there I saw my scooter. I have some old pictures that I'll dig out.

Love the memories. Where are the Crawdaddy's?

  • Hmmm cool vid, looks like a lot of flyers from my collection in there. Funny pic of Charley and his POS Lammy and even one of me and Jackie leading a pack of bikes off Melrose, ahhh the old days. Thanks for posting this!

  • Thanks again Ted; those are indeed yours.

  • Excellent days indeed. The On Klub had the BEST bathroom grafitti. And there was always tons of girls....I loved the pic of the Cavern Club alley...

  • untouchables, fishbone, khyber rifles, lets go bowling. I wasn there, smiling from a lambretta, hottie in tow, fred perry, slacks, braces and monkey boots. Good times.

  • Neat slide show. I was in Universal Export, attempting to play guitar. The Fixations? Didn't your drummer (you?) play a show with us once?

  • That was great. My group, The Fixations, played a couple of times during that era. Mostly at Concert Factory with Universal Export and groupls like that. We played Lhasa a couple of times. The Question were great, as were The Jetz and the Three O Clock. Great days.

  • Great pics. I went to the Friday Mod nights at the Concert Factory in '82. Nice bit of history here.
