  • What Hitlerjugend has do to with this recording?, I ask you. How long will this nonsense last?.

  • @JBSERBIST

We're all responsible for our own history. Just as the Jews said "Let his blood be on us and on our children" and then reneged, our pasts haunt all of us, and adults accept that. Only in our age of infantile narcissist ungodliness the Founders promised would be fatal do fools pretend it can be escaped.

  • Schreier was Mauersbergers favourite boy of the choir. And that was right if one can see him singing Bach as adult tenor.

  • Such a big, round tone ! Of course at the age of 15+, he had the advantage of additional years of practice and performances plus a more mature body, frequently the case with superb boy altos and sopranos. Although some people may dislike the slower tempo, it does give Peter the opportunity to show the beautiful tone of his voice.

  • Thanx for information. His haircut and the way he looks reminds me some posters of that times

  • Was he in Hitlerugend? ))

  • @kozzzh - the boys joined the Hitlerjugend at the age of 10. Peter Schreier became 10, when the war was already over (July 1945). So - no, he was not in the Hitlerjugend.

  • Hopefully the Lamb of God will not take away the world's sins at Mauersberger's tempo.

  • @preruminator Those sluggish tempos were typical of Bach and baroque performances prior to the HIP revival. Of course, there are plenty of people even today who'll complain that the brisk tempos of "original instrument" performances are too fast!

  • @AML2000

Absurd. Were you there? Do you have a time machine? My degree was in this, and the fact is that, despite (or maybe even BECAUSE OF) all the self-righteous, self-assured posturing and pontificating of the same old narcissist fascist antigod priests on the basis of fact-free charismatic "leadership" , we don't really KNOW how fast the tempi were, probably in between the extremes. I don't know whether I love Schreier's voice, younger or older, or his conducting more. Gold standard.

  • Dieses wunderschöne, dezente Vibrato! - Ich liebe es! - Peter Schreier, mein Traum!

  • Lovely. Did he continue his singing career? When was this made? I wonder what the soup pan and the ladle were doing at 8.01. Thank you. Danke sehr.

  • @ifuliki - Peter Schreier became one of the most important german Tenors of the 20th century ...

About the soup - it was their lunch at the choir school and they were singing a prayer before - they still do that :)

  • @aquaria85 I guessed it was something like that but thought this was a choir practice.

They were in fact in the refectory. I really liked this video with stills from times past. Thanks

    Aled

  • @ifuliki

Oh yes, only one of the greatest tenors of the 20th century. See many of his excellent recordings available for purchase by track or by disk at ww w. classicalarchives. com/artist/6403.html

  • Does anybody know of a CD or site where I can download a collection of Scheier's recordings? I already have his Matthew and St. John passions, but I'd love a collection of his cantatas especially.

  • @mojave19 There is a giant 75-cantata 26-CD set by Karl Richter and the Munich Bach Choir. Peter Schreier sings most of the tenor arias. This set or parts thereof is available on Amazon (on the Arkiv label). I have the whole set and I love it. However, I don't know where to find CDs of Schreier conducting Bach cantatas...I'd be interested to know about that.

  • @Pertelote09 Thanks!! Odd that iTunes doesn't care it. I'll download it from Amazon. Somebody there is selling the CDs used for darn near $500!

  • Thank you for sharing this fantastic musical performance!!

  • Peter's voice is magnificent!

  • @wskfan : Er feierte gerade eben seinen 75. Geburtstag!!!

  • Magnificent, just magnificent. Thank you for this rare moment.

  • referenz !

  • Wonderful video, Is this the same Peter Schreier as at my video singing

the "Lindenbaum "with the Dresdner Kreuzchor ?

  • @orion8352

yes, it is the same Peter Schreier

  • I think he sounds better here than in the 'Es ist vollbracht' aria. :-) And that voice definitely does not go with the face haha.

  • here he is 15, almost 16. most of the photos are from 1945/46 were he was 10-12, when he was still a boy soprano. so you are right - the voice does not go with the face ;)
