  • sounds so wonderful out of your room speakers, next time how about attaching a cable?

  • 101 sounds so good !

  • please which camera did you used for recording ?

  • thats a danm nice bass melodie!!!!!

  • probably the most musical analog sequence synth demo I've found

  • Do you have the sh101 sequenced by the MD? Or are you using its arp?

  • whats the point in recording this through a mic? you can't even hear the bass

  • nice setup! :)

  • the sequence on the 101 is fuckin quality ,good video

  • reminds me of some orbital off the In Sides album.. thats most deffinately a compliment.

  • Lovely set up... love the machine drum and the jomox.. they must compliment each other nicely. how do you find the machine drum compared to the jomox mate?

  • nice groove

  • this is brilliant - not sure how to expand on that - simply brilliant.

  • i am very enthusiastic about the stuff you laid down. best electronic groove I've heard on the Internet, up there with anything I've ever heard period, in electronica that is.

  • Veery nice! I use a jomox plus a korg ex800..with the drummachine you can drive both ruoghly

  • dope jam... id like to hear more

  • like it fellow machine enthusiast check out my esx dub jam

  • Reminds me of Meat Beat Manifesto.

  • i say this in the best way possible...

    MOTHERFUCKER! :)

  • isn't jomox the german copycat of the japanese roland TR synths?

  • @lavakava with the massively increased functionality and flexibility it is hardly a copycat. There are clones out there - this isn't one of them.

  • @lavakava The guy who makes them used to repair tr dummachines all the time, and he also did modifications. He said in an interview that he realized he actually could make them, but then he also saw that he could add things that the tr stuff didn't have, so it's like a copy with many new stuff added. But they don't sound the same at all, I played with them and a tr side by side in a shop in Germany a few months back, totally different. I liked the Jomox better actually, much more possibilities

  • NICE!!! Very Nice.. FINally, a MUSICAL demo! Instead of some knob-twirler just running a sine wave thru a filter and turning knobs! This was really funky.. love to hear this turned into a whole tune!! Do ya post your music anywhere where people can hear it? And what was creating the bass sequence? Thanks for posting .... really kool...

  • a sine wave through a filter would just increase and decrease its volume since it doesn't have any partials..

  • fail

  • indeed, lol

  • I just love the melody, pretty damn lush.

Thinking of going MD as soon as, the ER is just not right for me

    5star

  • How are you syncing the SH-101 ?

  • i think hes modulating the sh-101 with the xbase999 or the machinedrum like u would with a voice and a vocoder

  • Already answered in previous comments, have a read back.

  • cooooll sh*t :D

  • Telling you, this is an electro classic. I'm very interested as to how you went about programming the SH sequence?? I just finished the DR 110, it now has all mods and din sync together! I hope to post a video with Mobius, SH and DR110 soon.

  • nice!!!

  • WOW, sounds very good !

  • Nice groove. I have a machinedrum, but after hearing this, an XBase 999 would make a nice addition.

  • Yeah! loved this one! Nice work!

  • I've listened to a few hundred clips up here on you tube of drum machine stuff, and this was the first I genuinely liked. Btw, my Jomox 888 arrives tmrw!

  • Awesome groove. Fantastic performance. I'm loving it, keep playing it. I wish I knew how you get that melody.

  • this is an amazing set up. you are very fortunate to have this kind of gear. funky jams.

  • can the sh-101 threw a converter be recorded into say a DAW like ableton. im thinking of buying one

  • Yes, I usually record the audio out from the SH101 into Ableton (or Logic 8) using a Motu 828 MKII.

  • This is an excellent groove (linked from Matrixsynth). I wish I could hear a direct recording...

The SH-101 is going through a delay, right?

  • Yes, there's a bit of Ableton's (much overused) ping-pong delay on there.

  • Good Sound!!!

  • I never used a Elekton or Jomox but you know both, wich one is better? I make Italo and electro dance music, I have one home studio where I recorder every instrument one by one and I do a master mixing them, I need to know wich one is better for my goals.

    Tahnk you.

  • Both have their own strengths. The two machines compliment each other well. The Machinedrum makes really great crisp sounds with lots of harmonics. It also is probably the more versatile of the two. But for warm, thumpin bass, you can't beat Jomox.

Hey you wouldn't buy a car without driving it. Would you buy a drum machine without hearing it? Listen to the online demos for both. And Elektron offers a satisfaction guarantee on the Machinedrum, so you can send it back if you don't like it.

  • If you could keep just one, which one would it be? Jomox or Elektron? And why...

  • nice .. love hardware .. keep it dude

  • is it modded sh-101? as i know original roland sh-101 does not have midi in/out ... and damned this sh-101 sound weird:)

  • It's not a modded SH101. It doesn't have midi in, I'm using a Kenton Pro Solo MKII which converts midi in into CV and gate out.

  • very beautiful 101's sequence, gives me elevation feelings.

did you ever released that track?

    congrats & respects:

    that's real electro poetry!

  • That is a sweet synth line.......nice work all round.

  • i'm allready watching tghis video for one year and i can't get enough of it.

  • I love it too ! I must have watched it at least 20 times. I specially love the sh101 line. You did a great job !

  • what are you using to sequence the synth?

  • Ableton Live.

  • that is really awsome !!!

    great sh101 line

  • hey ignore panfart

I actually thought the knob twiddling was really musical

    enjoyed every minute of it!

would you recommend the xbase 999?

I am planning on buying the xbase 888 in the future

  • thats awesome! :)

  • wicked, loving it :)

  • The structure and work goes into proper tracks I make. The random twiddling happens when I make a quick video for the internet. :)

  • That video would be a week long and mostly very tedious!

  • golly gee panfart, I was noticing that there are no masterpiece performances in your profile...now that I mention it, there isn't even knob twiddling.

I found it interesting hartleytransform, post something more "knob twiddly".

  • Your Granny sounds pretty old school! Does her food mixer have a kenton midi modification or something similar?

  • you're just jealous of your "grans" skills...

  • Comment removed

  • define "do"

  • best video on youtube

  • VERY nice!!! keep it up

  • nice electro !

  • rockin acid

  • I triggered a DDD-1 to SH101 on an oldschool acid record.

This vid reminded me of the track.

  • Ok, that SH sequence stickin in my head man, I'm just telling ya. Do you have a recording of this made into a song?

  • I'm moving house at the moment so everything's packed up, I'll definitely try to turn it into a proper track when the studio is set back up.

  • Please do ASAP! Also, can you recommend other music with that cool SH sound? It's really great.

  • That'll be cool. I do have a Dr110 analog drum box I modified to have din sync, I'd like to do all the mods to it. Also have an MPC on the way, should be able to get some stuff going then. Thinkin about a 707 too, would love to have a 999 or the new 888 instead! take care.

  • F'kn dope trax! You should think about recording for real. I just got a red SH101 with a FR mobius sequencer. Its electro heaven. Just need a decent drum box!

  • get a 707 and 606

  • I got a 606 a while ago, just need a 707 now!

  • are you a fan of Mat Jonson? he's made his career on the 101. you got a similar sound... good work.

  • Yeah I really like his stuff, apparently he owns two 101s!

  • you now this acid line of the sh makes me cry !

  • Awesome! Seriously, this is great stuff. I want an SH-101 now :/

  • nice 101 pattern bro .. i still love that machine!

  • what's triggering the sh101? is there a trig out on the jomox?

  • I'm using Ableton Live to play the SH101 via a Kenton midi to CV converter. Ableton is also playing the Jomox. The MD is the master clock.

  • SWEET ELECTRO! This is fucking genious, I really miss my SH now.

  • i dig this. hell yeah.

  • Very nice session. I still haven't figured out the filters really either, but I'm getting closer... still a bit confusing. Have you figured it out? Care to share... :)

  • Very nice. Makes me long for my studio here at work...

  • isn't it Mathew Jonson's "Marionette"?

  • No it is not, but it sounds quite the same. especially around 1:40. Thx for the comment, it just reminds me that I need to get that record back from a friend.

  • SH101 line is great

I love the computer monitor in the vid

    no software needed!!!!!!

  • seems pretty hard to use it...

  • Yes, very nice! The SH-101 line is great. Makes me miss my MC-202 a bit.

  • that is a pretty stellar jam! i dig it man

  • I really love the groove of ur jam. Im not sure which one of those 2 machines i should buy. Would you prefer the MD or the 999 for Hard Techno / Acid ?

  • That's a tricky question, it depends what kind of sound you're after. They're both great machines.

The MD has one of the best user interfaces I've ever used on a drum machine, it's very quick to pick up and get started, and there are a huge amount of possibilities when it comes to tweaking parameters. You can get a lot of crazy noises out of it, but it's a very digital sound to my ears, which can be a good or bad thing depending on what you're looking for.

  • The 999's user interface isn't as well designed as the MD, in fact it's pretty confusing at first, and the manual also doesn't make things very clear (I still can't figure out what's happening in the filter section yet, but I'm working on it!). It's a true analogue machine, so it has an immense kick, and the snare and hi-hats also sound incredible. You can get a very close approximation to a 909 with this thing, for more "traditional" techno and acid house it'd be a better choice than the MD.

  • Overall I'd say the MD is a lot more flexible, easier to use, and you can get a greater spectrum of sounds out of it. The 999 isn't as easy to use, but has a true analogue sound that will immediately stand out. If I get a chance I'll put up some videos of just the MD vs the 999, should be a bit of fun!

  • That would be really cool. Thanks for ur answer think im already smarter now.

  • real nice! how are you sequencing the 101? sounds cool

  • not sure how he's actually doing it but could be several ways...two of which off the top:

using a dedicated MD part out using 16th pulses to act as a voltage clock, and then just using the SH-101's own sequencer on board.

or, sequencing it from one of the 999's midi out sequencers via kenton pro solo converter. Or, likewise with one of the MD's midi outs. A mobius makes the ideal sequencer on those 101's btw.

Great video.... 999 is thoe most wonderful creation on planet earth IMO.

  • The proper answer is much more boring, I'm using Ableton Live to sequence the SH101 via a Kenton Pro-Solo CV/midi converter. Ableton is also sequencing the 999, however Ableton is synced to the MD's master clock.

  • nice

next time route the mix into the camera..

...and get a tripod so you can have both hands! :)

...and... BUY THE UW UPGRADE! IT'S TOTALLY WORTH IT!
