I have lit my cigars with a zippo and a xikar. I have the executive like you. and I did not have any taste from the fluid I actually think I lit my stick faster with my zippo than my xikar because you have a flame instead of a direct jet. I think if some one says they had a nasty taste from a zippo they probably stayed in one position of the cigar longer when lighting it. I like both ways.
If you must light a smoke with a Zippo let the flame burn for about ten seconds before you take it to your stick or pipe. The fuel flavor burns off right way and the flame tastes much cleaner.
Oh ya it affects the flavor, it's subtle but when you notice it it's a terrible effect. A hickory match will give the cigar an extra pleasant woody flavor, the same way barbequing meat affects it's flavor. With that said I use my zippo to light cigars all the time (unless I pick up a real nice one) because I can't be bothered to constantly buy matches =(
Dude, just get Zippo Blu, the butane version. Jet flamed with a huge fuel tank and a flint ignition system so it still comes with a lifetime guarantee. I think to a cigarette smoker it doesn't matter what you light a cigar with, Zippo users like that first couple of petrol flavoured puffs. A man who only smokes cigars does so for the taste so maybe it's better without the Zippo for him, not sure about the jet flame though, too harsh. I think cigars are best lit with a match.
it really doesnt bother me, I use my zippo for everything. Although I dont smoke regularly, I will have a few cigars a year and it has never bothered me. There is a slight flavour that lasts less than a minute.
Actually it really does matter. The cleaner the flame, the better the end smoke will taste. You should use wooden stick matches, a natural beeswax candle or a homemade olive oil candle. I definitely notice a difference between matches and a zippo, even though I use a zippo 99% of the time.
I really don't think it matters. I Smoke cigars same as you, on a good occasion. I've tried both flames but in all reality, the more you smoke, the less you'll be able to get the full taste and appreciation of a good tobacco product. It's like drinking, somethings are going to affect it like jack and coke compared to just straight jack but, after a while, you won't notice the difference.
Just comes down to preference I guess. I don't mind the fluid scent of a zippo. I actually like it.
Ah, noticed that kinda' Zippo in a shop few days ago. Although, haven't bought it, 'cause I have mine with "27 club" written. (: But it's really nice.
@PBaddict7830 Sorry I didn't get back to your comment until now. I haven't been on YouTube for months. To answer your questions, some torch lighters have safety locks but the one shown in the vid (a Xikar Executive) does not. The fuel does not leak out…like, at all. In fact, the only way the fuel source can be depleted is either by igniting the lighter or by firmly depressing the bleed/refill valve on the bottom.
After using zippos for a long time, that is an issue that doesnt make a difference, i like zippos so much that the tast that creates on cigarettes never boder me to much. One trick is to light the zippo and wait 2 seconds before you light a cigarette , that helps to reduce the taste of the lighter fluid. At leat thats my opinion.
@iDriveEFX I decided to do some research just out of curiosity. Interestingly, this seems to be a hotly-debated point amongst English grammarians. Many people suggest that it is a perfectly acceptable word (hyphenated or not). On the other hand, see, for example, Paul Brians' take on it in his book: Brians, P. (2008). Common Errors in English Usage (2nd ed.). Sherwood, OR: Williams, James & Company.
idk, people say that the first smokes are the best, so thats why it is recommended not to use a zippo. but after a moment the ''zippo taste'' goes away. i smoke cigars very randomly and use a zippo, it doesnt matter that much to me. besides after buying an expensive real zippo you want to use it, and cigarettes aren't my kind of thing.
@somenoobz Yea, I definitely agree. I'll probably still continue using my Xikar torch lighter for the most part though…I like the increased precision I get from it.
Just use a Dupont.

Everyone knows you use a wood match to light a cigar. Torches burn the tobacco to a crisp too fast and zippos are nice but not prefered.

Lit one with a lighter fluid zippo. Taste for the 1st 10 minutes was unbearable. Tasted like gasoline.

I gotta say I can taste the zippo fluid through the whole cigar, not the first few puffs.

Using a zippo on a cigar is just fine. It'll only affect the taste for a minute or two.

Just get a natural flame butane insert off Amazon. They keep fuel much longer and burn pure and tasteless.

How far into the smoke does the taste last?
And on a scale of 1 to 10, how bad is it?
AusiStarwind 4 months ago 3
@AusiStarwind For me, it didn't last very long. Maybe a minute or so. I'd say it's maybe a 3.5-4 out of 10.
Of course, one can imagine that how full-bodied the cigar is will affect the impact of using a Zippo.

Does the torch have a safety lock? And will the fuel leak out if you leave it on it's side or upside down?
