If this represents the music from his later life, I should try to find more from that period. This is a different Beethoven to me, less involved with the crowd, more with the music.
@voxhunden I agree its odd that he went out with a bang by writing music not for an orchestra but mostly for solo piano and also for a messily string quartet but by demanding as much as he would a normal orchestra
this is the definitive recording of op 130 by the quartetto italiano. i strongly suggest that any of you who love beethoven and are interested in the late quartets GET THESE RECORDINGS- THEY ARE FAR AND AWAY THE BEST.
An assignment-listen to the music, and all the passion that went in it. Then name one GOOD thing that you loved about the piece. If everything is positive, no one can get offended for their views.
he was not writing gods consciousness beauty. According to your Eisteins theory, Beethoven in the grosse fugue was writing about the other half of the ecuation, the humanitys misery and decadence.

Rock on, Louie!

Finally.
If God was to speak with Beethoven's music.
This piece explains why he forgives us.

This is not ugly. This is not beautiful. This is both of them.
This is how the world is created and connected with an unbreakable bound.
Cause:
*You can't be really beautiful if you don't feel ugly and humble.
*You can't be rich if you don't see yourself as a poor man.
*You can't be the greatest composer of all time if you are not deaf!
Every piece is carefully added in a way that can't be replaced.
Simply... Perfect.

It's a gross piece. Meaning, it's very disinant and complex. It is an aquired taste. It truely is beautiful.

What was he thinking?
Perhaps the same as Einstein when he was discovering his GTR - that it has to be this way.
This piece is so intense.
