  • this is jori NOT tabla so the bols here would be from the Punjab... pinky studied jori with Ustad Nihal Singh of Punjab and tabla from Pt Kishan Maharaj of Benaras.

  • best of both worlds.

  • moves 2 much

  • nothing wrong with that....he is a very unique player

  • 123tan123: you are just ignorant. Don't comment on things u dnt knw about.

  • that was for freak22A btw

  • It was a beautiful evening, Pinky asked me to play the lehra when he played this particular piece and even the shake hand at the end, memorable!

  • He has an interesting playing style. So open!

  • just amazing

  • amazing stage presence he has, theres just no one quite like him...

Love the echo bounce like beat at 1:30

  • deepspirit58 are you mad. Ustaad zakir hussain is the worlds greatest tabla player

  • These players are all equal in terms of skill. You can't rank one above the other.

  • thats ur opinion...but remember, this isn't punjab gharana tabla..its Pakhawaj Jori, it is studied in Amritsar Gharana, and deepspirit58 said "world's best tabla player in pure Punjab Baaj" meaning in the jori style of it..

  • Pinki is world's best tabla player in pure Punjab Baaj. I appreciate namdhari sect's effort to keep this rare baaj alive. God bless him!

  • I was told that he was a Namdhari from Benares school?

  • its Benares not punjab.

  • pinky before learning benares...learned Amritsar style pakhavaj jori..

  • bahut khoob kya baat hai..such panache and verve..pleasure to both listen and watch!!!

  • worthy of another jakara, i suspect,

    ha ji, Bole So Nihaaal......

  • that's not a pakhavaj, that's a tabla!

  • uhh, it's definitely a jodi....

  • what is remarkable is that this instrument is played with open unsupported (khula) hands like the pakhawaj. But since there are two separate drums there will not be an interplay between the sounds created by the two surfaces like in the pakhawaj which has one body and two playing surfaces. It is a remarkable instument that combines features of both and its style of playing in terms of the bols seems definitely like the pakhawaj.

  • This instrument was created by Shri Guru Arjan Dev jee - Fifth Guru of Sikhs- for playing in Golden Temple Amritsar with Keertan according to Maargi Sangeet Parampara.

  • vah vah kya bat hai such clear padant and playing fantastic virtuosic stuff. it would sound really great also with Dhrupad Dhamar.

We should see this more in Dhrupad concerts.

  • thanks for posting this gem

  • Jnan Babu always said that this is the real sound of the bayan. No ghammak - Just open pure bass. Thats the sound of the bayan. Wonderful!

  • ez ez kyah bhat shabasssh

  • wah wah, sukhvinder ji!

  • fantastic pakhawaj and tabla player, he shows the true beauty of the benares/panjab gharanas in his playing. gotta listen to this 20 times to get the first bol out ...KiTaTiKa Ta KiTaTiKa Ti TE.........

  • Kyaaahnhat hai!!!

  • lol he lives in midlands! if you want to learn you have to be at a certain level to learn if you would like i could give contacts!

  • wow, very nice PINKY Ji.

i would love to see him perform LIVE!!!

  • does pinky teach pakhavaj preferably in Birmingham/Midlands area, I really want to learn?

  • it is such a fascinating instrument i personally beleive the tabla doesnt come any where near it! There is so much power in this instrument enough to drive anyone insane!

  • fantastic!

  • very clear playing, weight and nikaas. Its such a unique instrument, with such facinating bols. Very nice indeed.
