I think I am going to give some of these Microcoils a try. The tone you were getting at 5:27 is very clean and jazzy and that is what I am looking for and also quiet.
Nice work & playing, thanks for sharing. Would have loved to have seen the original redwood body, bet it was pretty. And maybe I missed it, but did you mention what amp you're using?
@grizzledgizzard Thanks for the nice comments! The Redwood was slab cut lumber when I got it - the body and neck were built from scratch. Check out the TDPRI build page for the photos of the whole process. The amp is a mid-60s Bartell. Short-lived company from Riverside CA that was a venture of a couple guys from Rick and Magnatone, I think. Its a dual 6V6, all tube, old-school design, but now has a mid-90s Celestion V30 12-inch speaker as well.
Nice playing. How do you think the microcoils sound compared to his twinblades or noiseless singles? I'm trying to decide which set to buy for my tele.
@TheeLoveland87 Thanks! I can only compare them to Keystones - don't have any other of Bill's pickups. The micro coils are very quiet, and very clean. And they have good output - much louder than "vintage-style" Tele pickups. They have no 60-cycle hum at all, and no buzzing when lifting a hand off the strings. They're maybe not as good with gain as the Keystones, which sound great crunchy, but the micro coils are much twangier than Keystones.
@asdesas Thanks! I'm loving the tone of this guitar, that's for sure! The Redwood was very easy to work with - no issues with tear-outs or anything. And it smells great! Like Cedar on steroids! But, it is soft. You have to be careful with it to not dent it or screw in stuff too hard.

@rsaathoff Thanks! I think you should try Microcoils - they're an incredible deal compared to other "boutique" and big name pickups.

Crazy dog just dematerialized!! Nice build, some of the tones you got reminded me of Ali Farka Toure. Great job.
