Enlighten me. Show me your proof that "climate change" as it's now called isn't a natural phenomenon. Show me a single polar glacier sample that can be conclusively proven to be accurate. Tell me which scientists that support the theory that it's man made aren't given grants by companies that profit from their studies. It's not a matter of whether or not all life will end. It won't. But the quality of our lives could be affected, and that of other species almost certainly will be. Extinction is natural too, but the rate at which it's occuring because of us is not. The same can be said of climate change.

Dinosaurs may be dead (along with 95% of all species ever) but I'd say the planet's doing just fine. My question to you is: how can we possibly know what a "normal" rate of extinction is? We've only started recording that kind of thing the last hundred years or so. There is now way we can have an accurate basis for comparison. But let's say we can crunch those numbers; that presents another problem. While you can autopsy an individual, how can you definitively say how an entire species died?
Well, normally we shouldn't rely too much on anechdotal evidence, but in this case there are reports of species being amazingly common (like sea turtles, the passenger pigeon, bison, etc) that are either reduced in number or extinct. It's also very easy to measure loss of rainforests with satellite mapping, and loss of habit results in loss of species within the habitat. At least we know that those rates aren't normal, and we know what happened to them too; us. It's illogical to ignore that.
All of those are good points, but not relevant to the issue at hand. Passenger pigeons went out because of over hunting, Sea turtles are on their way out due to people stealing their eggs, and bison are on their way back from over hunting. Non of that deals with climate change. While we can't ignore them, it's unwise to draw conclusions when the evidence shows that it's direct human meddling and not climate change that's the bad guy.
I know. I guess I just wanna establish the point that the Earth is vulnerable to human interference and can be rendered "not fine" in many respects. Once we establish that humans can drastically change the Earth's ecosystems even though life will technically go on, we can tolerate the possibility that humans might be responsible for climate change and that it might be an actual problem, not something to get apathetic over.
Science isn't built on "mights" and "maybes". It's built on fact. And while the facts do point towards climate change, they don't necessarily point to us being the cause of it, therefore it's foolish to think it even NEEDS fixing at this point. But I do think the less impact we have the better, so not all the proposed solutions are bad.

I think Climate change is real but man made climate change is full of it! Has anyone else noticed that there has been really warm temperatures all over the northern hemisphere this summer... but we seem to not be hearing from some expert every 2 minutes telling us we're killing this place. If the weather had been like this last year they would have been lapping up the opportunity to preach to us... I am all for being a part of a society that cuts down on waste and has proper waste management, such as using green bins, recycling, finding and using a sustainable renewable energy source, but I am not for a global carbon tax. I feel I should not have to pay to breathe. The earth runs in cycles, and this is one of them, we get hotter and colder temperatures it is natural. Pollution is a different story and that needs to be properly addressed.

How can you not think that climate change is real? Of course it may have been cycling for millenia, but you can't deny that humans are greatly accelerating problems like greenhouse gasses. I don't know if those of you who disagree really care about shrinking ice caps or polar bears dying or the possibilities of more hurricanes like Katrina, but i'm going to follow my own intuition and say that humans are having a big impact. But that's my opinion.

How do you not believe in climate change? A few years ago the gulf stream stopped for a couple days resulting in some seriously chilly weather in the UK. This is a big deal. The climate is changing. Iceburges are melting, methane is being released and if we don't do something, we're going to have some serious problems. If you have proof for you claims please respond with them- I'd be curious to see them.

So, it's OUR fault the cows actually interfere. And Brazil here is just an example, many other countries have a horribly huge amount of cattle.

I'm not saying humans don't effect the environment, we do, but there's far greater "natural" impacts on the environment. "global warming" has been a fraud. the top US climate official even stated last week that there's been no significant evidence in the past 15 years. the whole thing has been a hoax by alarmists and lobbyists who would gain by scaring the public with this stuff. (to sell green products, or charge taxes on carbon emissions) we don't need this stuff killing our industry even more

Enlighten me. Show me your proof that "climate change" as it's now called isn't a natural phenomenon. Show me a single polar glacier sample that can be conclusively proven to be accurate. Tell me which scientists that support the theory that it's man made aren't given grants by companies that profit from their studies. It's not a matter of whether or not all life will end. It won't. But the quality of our lives could be affected, and that of other species almost certainly will be. Extinction is natural too, but the rate at which it's occuring because of us is not. The same can be said of climate change.

Dinosaurs may be dead (along with 95% of all species ever) but I'd say the planet's doing just fine. My question to you is: how can we possibly know what a "normal" rate of extinction is? We've only started recording that kind of thing the last hundred years or so. There is now way we can have an accurate basis for comparison. But let's say we can crunch those numbers; that presents another problem. While you can autopsy an individual, how can you definitively say how an entire species died?

Well, normally we shouldn't rely too much on anechdotal evidence, but in this case there are reports of species being amazingly common (like sea turtles, the passenger pigeon, bison, etc) that are either reduced in number or extinct. It's also very easy to measure loss of rainforests with satellite mapping, and loss of habit results in loss of species within the habitat. At least we know that those rates aren't normal, and we know what happened to them too; us. It's illogical to ignore that.

All of those are good points, but not relevant to the issue at hand. Passenger pigeons went out because of over hunting, Sea turtles are on their way out due to people stealing their eggs, and bison are on their way back from over hunting. Non of that deals with climate change. While we can't ignore them, it's unwise to draw conclusions when the evidence shows that it's direct human meddling and not climate change that's the bad guy.

I know. I guess I just wanna establish the point that the Earth is vulnerable to human interference and can be rendered "not fine" in many respects. Once we establish that humans can drastically change the Earth's ecosystems even though life will technically go on, we can tolerate the possibility that humans might be responsible for climate change and that it might be an actual problem, not something to get apathetic over.

Science isn't built on "mights" and "maybes". It's built on fact. And while the facts do point towards climate change, they don't necessarily point to us being the cause of it, therefore it's foolish to think it even NEEDS fixing at this point. But I do think the less impact we have the better, so not all the proposed solutions are bad.
