i am korean and proud to be a buddhist! seriously every koeran i meet in north america seem christian these days. i want tomeet more korean buddhists.
as a buddhist, i'm glad christianity gained a foothold in korea. it would have been nearly impossible to reform traditional korea into a more equal society without the mass fanaticism of evangelists. truth needs no adherents, but to effect the salvation of all beings requires skillful means. in that sense, i see korean christianity as an emanation of the sages. korean buddhism may be small, but notice that it's more vibrant than japanese buddhism, which is omnipresent, yet necrotic.
those crazy christians are not following Jesus' teachings, he was not teaching hate, Jesus was teaching love and kindness, and in Luke 17:21(22) is written that God is within you, the same as Buddha taught.
Even though North Korea is an atheist country, it is not so harsh towards Buddhism. Buddhism is seen as something Korean, unlike Christianity which is semitic and brought by the Americans.
Christianity thrives in today SKorea because of the fervent and very aggressive evangelical Christanity proselytisation. Using many tactics and strategies, this works because Korea is changing rapidly towards a modern society and increasing westernised. It is similar to Singapore in many ways.
well done...at last i saw a good Korean . I give me the impression that Buddhism in Korea is so impressive and deep-rooted. The mad, extremist ,loud, evangelistic, annoying and deculturalised Christian Koreans contrast so deeply the serenity of Korean Buddhism.
@nusld Yes, I personally think that beauty of Buddhism lies in their modesty. Mostly, people of other religions like the Christians you mentioned always try to spread their religion in a very "loud' way. They force their religion onto others. Buddhists think like: 'Let them come if they want to. They don't have to.'
It's only hard if someone is attached to hair. Buddhist monks & nuns have to shave the head, it shows they have renounced the householders life, and now leading a life of purity and monasticism.

Any Buddhism revival in Korea now? Korean Buddhists do not do anything to promote Buddhism in this country?
If want to save Buddhism, Buddhists have to changed and could not follow the ancient or conventional way of promoting religion and culture anymore.
Buddhists should adopt the method of "Buddhism evangelism".
In Sri Lanka and Taiwan Buddhists, they have done this very successful.
