I was fortunate enough to find the Earthsea Trilogy at my local library when I was about 6 or 7 years old (30 years ago!). I have read and re-read the books lovingly throughout the years, and I have exchanged letters with Mrs. Le Guin twice. I have profound respect for her and for her writings, and I consider her to be the mother of my imagination in many ways. Bless you, Mrs. LG!
Interesting that someone who has put down fans who wanted to create role playing games based on her works by saying that its not creative says she is fine taking a world created by Virgil and playing around in it. I guess it's all good as long as she gets her naive, collectivist political message out.
Not witty at all. You may think, as Dark Muj suggests that egotism is a virtue and the most sincere form of freedom. However, have you ever though that it is because of collectivism that people form societies? Maybe you are blinded with capitalist selfsufficiency crap, broadcasted in all media. You fail, as Rand does, that egotism is only possible if there is an other, and those others work for one.
All kinds of writers take up all sorts of influences or playfields. Virgil took up Homer. The things that can be done with role playing games are limited in comparison to the written word, and so it seems there are enough systems to choose from or to adapt to one's taste.
@Drerark How are computer role playing games (I presume we are talking computer rpgs here..) more limited?
It is essentially just interactive story-telling, and imo has a massive amount of potential. The detail and nuances you could insert into a project are astounding (just take morrowind for example - that game had some six novels worth of text).
17 y-old Finnish scholar here, my mom got me the trilogy in English and I'm loving it !
